El sábado tuvo lugar la entrega de premios del 27 Festival de Málaga. Un festival que desde mundoCine hemos cubierto como prensa y podéis leer nuestras críticas y entrevistas. Un festival en el que “Segundo Premio” ha ganado el mayor galardón apuntando ya a los premios Goya.

Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez’s,Saturn Return was the big winner at the Malaga Film Festival on March 9, taking home the awards for Golden Biznaga for best Spanish film, best director and best editing.

Other top prizes went to Celia Rico’s Little Loves, Álex Monoya’s La Casa, Pau Durá’s Birds Flying East (Pájaros) and Mexican drama Radical, by Christopher Zalla.

Saturn Return, a drama inspired by iconic indie rock band Los Planetas, is set in the late 1990s in Granada. It is produced by La Terraza Films, Áralan Films, Ikiru Films, Bteam Prods, Sideral Cinema and Los Ilusos Films.

Malaga — Isaki Lacuesta’s “Saturn Return” (“Segundo Premio”), always a frontrunner, topped this week’s Malaga Festival winning its best picture, director (with co-director Pol Rodríguez) and editing (Javi Frutos) awards.

The triple plaudit delivers further recognition for a feature which pulls off the double achievement of being formally inventive and great fun at one and the same time.

Turning on Spanish indie rock group Los Planetas storied attempts to making their third and finally iconic album, but really about people’s need to recast the past as comprehensible narrative and a biopic parody, A broad audience play, “Saturn Return” has been hailed by Spanish newspaper El Mundo as a “masterpiece.”

Supremely diabolical Star Original series “El Encargado,” directed by innovating Argentine creative duo Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat (“The Man Next Door”), teased a first episode as part of the Capítulo Uno strand of soon-to-bow series at the 2nd Iberseries & Platino Industria, which unspooled Sept. 27-30 in Madrid.

The series opens with protagonist Eliseo preparing dinner in a spotless kitchen, calling out to his family to set the table as he sips from a glass of wine. Every detail in his succulent pasta dish is fine-tuned. As he sits at the head of the table, the camera pans back revealing he’s alone. Thoroughly enjoying his own company, he finishes his exquisite meal, straightens up and leaves the borrowed space. Scenes of him feeding his Venus Flytrap, a carnivorous plant that mimics some of his darker inclinations, are laid into the title sequence, alluding to his reality as a sly inner predator,...

Six series will play in the festival with 10 titles in the Market.

A new anthology series titled This Is Music from directors including Wim Wenders and David Byrne is one of 10 international projects selected for the Co-Pro Series section of the Berlinale Co-Production Market 2021 (March 2-5).

The Berlinale Series has also selected six series to play in the online festival, which runs from March 1-5.

The Berlin Film Festival has unveiled the six titles that will take part in the latest edition of Berlinale Series. The shows will screen online during the first week of March when the European Film Market runs, and the team are currently discussing plans for presenting some of the shows during the festival’s planned summer event.

The line-up includes Philly D.A., the strand’s first docuseries, which follows the most controversial District Attorney in the U.S. and will arrive from its premiere at Sundance. Deadline recently revealed that Dogwoof has boarded the project, which comes from Oscar-nominated duo Josh Penn and Michael Gottwald.

Latin American TV will be represented for the first time with two titles: Amongst Men (Entre Hombres), an Argentinian HBO production, and The Last Days of Gilda (Os últimos dias de Gilda) from Canal Brazil.

This year’s Berlinale Series has announced the section’s lineup of six titles.

The TV arm of the festival, which is being held online this year due to the pandemic, said the shows reflect “unconventional and surprising topics, narratives and visual style [that] comprise a mirror of our time.”

Latin American content is represented for the first time with the Argentinian HBO production “Entre hombres” (Amongst Men) and “Os últimos dias de Gilda” (The Last Days of Gilda) from Brazil. “Philly D.A.,” a U.S. production by Oscar-nominated duo Josh Penn and Michael Gottwald, is the first documentary series to be invited into the program.

Separately, the Berlinale Series Market and Conference, the industry platform which is part of the European Film Market, has announced a newly created special label called “Berlinale Series Market Selects” that highlights series with high commercial potential within the “Berlinale Series Market” screenings.

New York-based Visit Films has acquired rights to two Sundance premieres, taking the world excluding Latin America and Scandinavia to The Queen Of Fear and the world excluding North America, Mexico, and Benelux to Time Share.

Valeria Bertuccelli is wooed by Gabriel Goity in A Boyfriend for my Wife.

Olive Films will deliver the popular 2008 Argentine romantic comedy A Boyfriend for My Wife (Un Novio Para Mi Mujer in its native language) on DVD on Oct. 4, for a list price of $29.98.

The movie concerns Tenso (Adrian Suar), a stressed man who goes to unusual lengths to get out of his unhappy marriage after realizing that he lacks the courage to ask his wife Tana (Valeria Bertuccelli) for a divorce. He seizes the idea to hire a womanizer nicknamed “The Crow” (Gabriel Goity) to romance Tana and woo her away, hoping that she’ll be the one who asks for the divorce once she realizes she no longer loves him.

Juan Taratuto (It’s Not You, It’s Me) directed this Spanish-language comedy, which was Argentina’s top-grossing film of 2008.

The movie wasn’t released in theaters in the U.

Natalia Smirnoff’s film “Puzzle” (“Rompecabezas”) tells you most of what you need to know about its protagonist in the first few minutes: Maria is enslaved by her domestic life, to the point that she prepares and serves her birthday meal to a room of oblivious family and friends, and does it all with a smile that hides her aggravation.
