It's been almost a year since the first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released. Updates have since been few and far between, a surprise when reviews from various film festivals have been largely positive (it currently sits at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes).
Recently, it was claimed that filmmaker Macon Blair's movie starring Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage is considered "unreleasable."
A producer supposedly connected to the project said The Toxic Avenger's commercial prospects are too "out there" for a traditional theatrical release, likely explaining why the movie still has no confirmed distributor. Why it hasn't been offloaded to a streaming platform is unclear, though it could be that agreements were made for it to be released theatrically.
Collider recently caught up with Dinklage and asked for another update; unfortunately, it sounds like he remains as in the dark as the rest of us.

Last September, people finally got to see a bit of Macon Blair’s remake of the famous Troma film The Toxic Avenger. The original is a cult classic that puts an over-the-top, irreverent, graphically violent spin on the superhero franchise and the remake aimed to keep the spirit of the Lloyd Kaufman original. This new incarnation would also sport an impressive cast with The Thicket‘s Peter Dinklage. He’s also joined by Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood, who portray the big baddies in the film.
However, after the release of the Red Band trailer, there has been no word on a release as the studio behind it doesn’t deem it releasable with its straddling the very fine line of commercial and cult appeal. The status of the film appears to have it in limbo at the moment, but the movie’s lead, Peter Dinklage, is optimistic that it...

We're now coming up to a year since the first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released. We've heard very little since then, though reviews from various film festivals have been largely positive.
It was recently reported that filmmaker Macon Blair's movie starring Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage is considered "unreleasable."
A producer reportedly called The Toxic Avenger's commercial prospects too "out there" for a traditional theatrical release, likely explaining why the movie still has no confirmed distributor. It is unclear why it hasn't been offloaded to a streaming platform or digital vendor.
Talking to ComicBook.com, Dinklage shared another disappointing update on where things stand with the remake. "No, I'm not a producer on it. I don't know," he said when asked about a possible release date. "I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin.

The first teaser trailer for The Toxic Avenger remake was released last October. We haven't heard much since then, though reviews from various film festivals have been largely positive.
However, word comes from World of Reel today that filmmaker Macon Blair's movie starring Peter Dinklage is currently considered "unreleasable."
The site claims to have spoken to a producer who says The Toxic Avenger's commercial prospects are too "out there" for any sort of traditional theatrical release, likely explaining why the movie still has no confirmed distributor.
As a result, it's looking increasingly likely that it will have to be offloaded to a streamer or go straight to VOD.
There's been a fair bit of excitement surrounding The Toxic Avenger, so the news it may never see the light of day is deeply troubling. Yes, that's a possibility according to the site. Here's an excerpt from their report:

James Corden and Ruth Jones have written a final episode for Gavin And Stacey – a special Christmas edition.
A report earlier this year suggested that a Gavin And Stacey Christmas special was in the works, which Ruth Jones later denied. However, the BBC has now confirmed that Corden and Jones have written a Christmas special, which will also be the final episode.
No details about plot or cast have been revealed, but the series regulars, including Corden as Smithy, Jones as Nessa, Steadman as Pam, Brydon as Uncle Bryn, Davis as Dawn, Mathew Horne as Gavin, Joanna Page as Stacey, Melanie Walters as Gwen, Larry Lamb as Mick and Adrian Scarborough as Pete, are expected to return.

It’s been confirmed. Deadline’s scoop from earlier this year that another Gavin & Stacey Christmas special was in the works has been rubberstamped and it will be the smash comedy’s final ever.
Posting on Instagram in the past few minutes, co-creators James Corden and Ruth Jones wrote: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Deadline had revealed that the episode was in the works several weeks back, although multiple members of the cast quickly sought to downplay our story. Baby Cow, Corden’s Fulwell 73 and Ruth Jones’ Tidy Productions are behind the special.
Gavin & Stacey is doubtless one of the most beloved British sitcoms of all time and the 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched show in a decade at more than 18 million viewers.

Gavin & Stacey’s 2019 Christmas special was huge. Bigger than huge. Do some bad maths, and you could even say that it was watched by one in three people in the UK population (you’d be wrong but when has that ever stopped anybody making statistical assertions).
Outside of state funerals, royal weddings or pandemic lockdown broadcasts, nothing much on British TV gets over 18 million viewers, let alone something nice, and the 2019 Gavin & Stacey Christmas special was very nice. Which is why they’re rumoured to be doing another one.
As reported by Deadline, but yet to be confirmed by the BBC or the show’s production companies, Ruth Jones and James Corden have written a new episode, which is due to film this summer “with a view to airing at Christmas time this year, five years on from the previous ratings-topping special.” The news coincides with Corden’s return to...

Exclusive: Beloved BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey is set to return for another bite at the Christmas cherry.
Deadline understands the sitcom from James Corden and Ruth Jones will film a new episode over the summer with a view to airing at Christmas time this year, five years on from the previous ratings-topping special.
We are told the special is in development/pre-production and cameras will roll in a few months time on the show, which is produced by Steve Coogan’s Baby Cow, Jones’ Tidy Productions and Fulwell 73, which is co-owned by Corden.
Gavin & Stacey is doubtless one of the most beloved British sitcoms of all time and the 2019 Christmas special was the most-watched show in a decade at more than 18 million viewers.
Mild spoiler: It ended with a cliffhanger, with Nessa (Jones) proposing to the ever-cheeky but loveable Smithy (Corden). That cliffhanger has led to undimmed chatter...

The Toxic Avenger shared the first footage of its titular vigilante — armed with a mission and a mop — from the horror-comedy film starring Peter Dinklage.
Macon Blair’s feature reimagines the original 1984 cult-favorite movie and premiered this month at the Fantastic Fest in Austin. The Legendary Entertainment project, which has not yet announced a release date, stars Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a janitor whose employer refuses to cover treatment for his terminal illness. After robbing the company, Winston falls into toxic waste and aims to right society’s wrongs as the Toxic Avenger.
In the footage, a news anchor announces, “A group of armed extremists, the Nasty Lads — they’ve taken hostages at a Miss Meat lunchatorium downtown.” This leads to the introduction of the Toxic Avenger, a superhero who takes matters into his own hands.

The red band teaser trailer for writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here) made its way online this morning – and now you can check it out in the embed above! Don’t expect to see much more of Toxie himself than we’ve already seen in the shadowy publicity still… but it does show some of the gory damage he does to evil-doers.
This movie may have a much larger budget than the previous Toxie films, but it does look like Blair was able to retain the Troma tone and sense of humor.
Blair’s version of The Toxic Avenger stars Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, a stereotypical weakling who works as a janitor at Garb-x health club and is diagnosed with a terminal illness that can only be cured by an expensive treatment that his greedy, power hungry employer refuses to pay for.

The Toxic Avenger is coming back to life in a brand new movie from Legendary Entertainment, with Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore, Green Room) directing the upcoming remake of the Troma classic. The film is premiering at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas (which runs from September 21-28), and the full official synopsis has arrived.
Described as a “brand new reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman’s classic The Toxic Avenger,” the film centers on Winston Gooze, played by “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage!
Troma previews, “While the original film (which premiered in 1984 – almost 40 years ago!) followed the fate of Melvin Ferd Junko III (Mitch Cohen), who goes from zero to toxic hero in a case of bullying gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take follows a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength all his own.

Two years have passed since filming wrapped on writer/director Macon Blair’s remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here), and now the movie is finally about to make its way out into the world! We still don’t have a release date, but we do know The Toxic Avenger is going to have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest next month – and along with the news of that screening comes the unveiling of the first image of Peter Dinklage as the title character, and a bit of teaser art! You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
Sure, Dinklage’s Toxie is shrouded in shadow in the image, but it’s still more than we’ve seen of him up to this point. The teaser art comes courtesy of our friends at Bloody Disgusting.

The Toxic Avenger is a cult classic superhero black comedy film from 1984, written and directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz. The film tells the story of Melvin, a nerdy janitor who falls into a vat of toxic waste and becomes a grotesque mutant with superhuman strength and a sense of justice. The film spawned three sequels, a musical, a cartoon series, and a loyal fan base.
Now, Legendary Pictures is bringing The Toxic Avenger back to the big screen with a reboot that promises to be a “contemporary reimagining” of the original. The reboot is written and directed by Macon Blair, who is known for his indie films such as I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore and Blue Ruin. Blair has also collaborated with director Jeremy Saulnier on films like Green Room and Hold the Dark.

Get ready to meet Winston Gooze in The Toxic Avenger remake, which will have its World Premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest, in Austin, Texas (September 21 – 28).
“A horrible toxic accident transforms downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze into a new evolution of hero: The Toxic Avenger!” Fantastic Fest writes of writer/director Macon Blair‘s (I Don’t Feel At Home in This World Anymore, Green Room) fresh take on the Troma classic.
The above image teases a first look at the new Toxie, an appropriately named Winston Gooze, played by “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage. While there’s no release date just yet, expect that to follow soon after its Fantastic Fest debut. Also check out teaser art below.

I didn’t realize it has been so long, but a year and a half has already gone by since writer/director Macon Blair wrapped production on his remake of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger (watch it Here). Almost a year has passed since the movie received an R rating for “strong violence and gore, language throughout, sexual references and brief graphic nudity“. But while we continue to wait to hear a release date for this new take on The Toxic Avenger, sound editor Casey Genton, who is currently doing the press rounds for his work on John Wick: Chapter 4, said that fans will be “over the moon” for the remake, and teased a scene the cast and crew have referred to as “the butt guts scene”.

Blair’s take on The Toxic Avenger has been rated “R” for violence and gore, and it’s aiming to please hardcore fans of the wacky Troma franchise.
On that note, the film’s sound editor Casey Genton teases one particular standout scene in a new chat with Slash Film, which is being referred to as… well… the “butt guts” scene.
Genton previews, “It’s a really funny movie. Macon Blair, the director, I think did a really good job with it. When they have tested it, fans of the film have been over the moon. It’s pretty out there. I think it’s a different crack. They’re giving the fans what they want,...

Retroware has announced another blast from the past for Saturday morning cartoon aficionados (and horror fans) with Toxic Crusaders. Yes, the same Toxic Crusaders cartoon that’s now streaming on Screambox! The game is aiming for a late 2023 release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One.
The story sees Dr. Killemoff once again causing trouble, and it’s up to Toxie and his team of hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength to stop Dr. Killemoff and his plans for global pollution.
Similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge last year, Toxic Crusaders will see you as Toxie with up to three other players in an arcade-style beat-’em-up. You’ll be able to choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, No-Zone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Toxie’s musically “gifted” girlfriend Yvonne, and the mother of all mothers, Mrs. Junko, Toxie’s mom!

Susanna Reid left the Good Morning Britain studio to comfort the mother of Levi Davis following an interview about the missing X Factor star.
Rugby union player Levi, who appeared on Celebrity X Factor in 2019, was last seen on 29 October exiting the Old Irish Pub on La Rambla in Barcelona, Spain. He had left Ibiza hours earlier.
On Wednesday (25 January), the 24-year-old’s mother Julie appeared on Gmb where she tearfully appealed for help in the search for her son.
“Before he left, there was a message – I don’t know, maybe [from] powers from up above – that said to me, ‘Give him a hug because you just don’t know if this is going to be your last,’” Julie said, before stopping to hold back tears.
Reid reached across the table and squeezed the guests’s hand, telling her: ‘What’s encouraging about [reporter Nick Dixon] being out there is he...

‘Never work with children or animals’, the old showbiz phrase goes, but when filming Nativity! in 2009 not only did Martin Freeman and Marc Wootton have both children and animals to contend with, they were doing it all without a script. Like Debbie Isitt’s 2006 mockumentary romcom Confetti also starring Freeman and Wootton, Nativity! was largely improvised, but how did that work on set?
Nativity! is the story of a primary school teacher (Freeman) who tries to put on a Hollywood-worthy nativity play with help from his young-at-heart teaching assistant (Wootton). Confetti, which stars a host of British comedy talent including Julia Davis, Jessica Stevenson, Olivia Colman and Robert Webb, is a wedding competition in which Freeman played one of three grooms competing with their bride to win a house.
When speaking to The York Press about both projects, Freeman explained that Nativity! had more guidance for each scene than Confetti,...

A disturbing clip of a Kremlin propagandist was uploaded to Twitter last week. Vladimir Solovyov, nicknamed “Putin’s Voice” for his unflinching support of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions, threatened a viewer on his show Full Contact.
A viewer Rozumovsky sent a question trying to discredit the tv show host. “Maybe it’s time to stop presenting lies as the truth? Stop deceiving people. Rational thinking people no longer believe any of this.”
In Memoriam 2022: 100 Great Celebrities Who Died This Year!
Solovyov responded to the question, as well as the rest of the message, with intimidation. “You know what, Victor? If you are in Russia, we are going to find you,” the host said while adding, “We will find out everything about you. You won’t know a moment’s peace.”

Richard Curtis is a man with many ideas. If you've ever watched any of the films he's scripted, like "Four Weddings and a Funeral" or "Love Actually," you know exactly what we're talking about. His movies tend to have multiple storylines which often intersect, even if onlybriefly. Given that the big limitation of cinema is that movies have to have a finite runtime, it's no surprise that sometimes he's got too many ideas to fit into a single movie. That was certainly the case with "Four Weddings and a Funeral," and that makes sense. After all, you're cramming four different weddings and a funeral into two hours. Something's gotta give.
Fortunately, romantic comedies are Curtis' wheelhouse. And in the world of romantic comedies, more often than not there's going to be a wedding. Such was the case with "Love Actually," the directorial debut for Curtis. Since he also wrote "Love Actually,...

Antipodean comedy Nude Tuesday - which was the Centrepiece Gala at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival - doubles down on improvisation. Its tale of a couple, Laura (Jackie van Beek) and Bruno (Damon Herriman), who go on a sex retreat run by guru Bjorg (Jemaine Clement) in a bid to save their marriage, sees the cast, improvising around a basic script devised by van Beek, all speaking made up gibberish. Comedies don’t come much more unconventional than “Nude Tuesday.”
The brainchild of Armağan Ballantyne and Jackie van Beek — who also stars as Laura, one half of a couple who attend a new-age retreat run by sex-guru Bjorg Rassmussen (Jemaine Clement) to rekindle their marriage — it was filmed in a made-up language and then subtitled after the fact by Julia Davis. The cult comedy veteran’s prose is a frequently hilarious interpretation of the cast’s performances.
Speaking with Variety ahead of the film’s U.K. premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff), Davis recalls why she agreed to the subtitling gig before she even saw the movie.
“I was a big fan of Jackie’s from a film she did called ‘The Breaker Upperers.’ We had a mutual fan type of thing going between us where we were emailing each other,” says Davis. “But then Jackie just emailed me and said,...

Whatever you might think of the comedy presented onscreen in this tale of a repressed married couple who try to invigorate their relationship on a sex retreat, there’s no denying there’s a fun concept lying behind it. Although devised by writer/director Armagan Ballantyne and writer/star Jackie van Beek, the film’s dialogue is deliberate gibberish, with a Scandinavian lilt, that was improvised by the actors, who had been given some pointers in terms of word and sentence construction by dialect coach Perry Piercy.
The idea is that, now finished, the film can be subtitled by any number of different comedians in different territories, with the creators accurately suggesting it is like a sort of feature-length version of the Downfall parodies video meme. In the case of the version playing as Edinburgh Film Festival’s central gala, they’re written by Julia Davis, although a version by Celia Pacquola and Ronny Chieung.

‘Nude Tuesday’ to be Central Gala as Edinburgh Reveals Competition Titles for Reimagined Major Award
Armağan Ballantyne’s gibberish comedy “Nude Tuesday” will be the central gala at the 75th Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff).
In the film, which has previously played at Tribeca and Sydney, 40-somethings Laura (Jackie van Beek) and Bruno (Damon Herriman) head to a three day couples’ retreat run by relationship and sexual healing guru Bjorg Rasmussen (Jemaine Clement) in an effort to rekindle the spark in their troubled marriage. Upon arrival, the path to their reconnection is met with increasingly absurd farce. The film is spoken entirely in an improvised, gibberish-esque language with subtitles created by Julia Davis.
The festival has reimagined its major award, the Michael Powell Award for best British feature. “With a renewed commitment to internationalism and cultural exchange, the principles on which the Edinburgh Festivals were founded, Eiff will present the Powell & Pressburger award for best feature film. This competition of 10 films is composed of a mix of U.

I feel like I’ve just seen the first movie that — future developments pending — might work better in the breach, so to speak, than in the observance. So to speak.
What do I mean by this? Well, Nude Tuesday is a New Zealand comedy that distinguishes itself in a very Down Under culture-jamming sort of way: It is performed by the cast in a “language” that is mostly gibberish. There are a few words that were agreed upon in advance, for consistency — yaah and ne, for example; chula for “thanks” — but beyond that, the actors are working more with feeling rather than concrete meaning as they deliver their improvised nonsense dialogue.
It’s all the brainchild of director Armağan Ballantyne and actor, filmmaker, and costar here Jackie van Beek. Van Beek wrote the script — more a general outline, it would seem — and then, after production was completed, another writer, comedian Julia Davis,...

Troma Entertainment’s Lloyd Kaufman is as unique as his studio is independent. Ironic, sarcastic, or provocatively caustic, Uncle Lloyd has got something to say and gets his point across on several levels simultaneously. It’s more economical. The iconic studio is renowned for cult classics like Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Chopper Chicks in Zombietown, and Surf Nazis Must Die, but the low-budget auteur maintained a diverse career of almost 50 years of “reel independence.”
Troma was founded in 1974 by Yale film society buddies Kaufman and Michael Herz. Their movies were produced on tiny budgets and were proudly proclaimed to make only “the most offensive, tasteless films in the history of cinema.” Even the lowest of low budget studios aspire to the highest of standards, and those without any at all shoot for the moon.

New Jersey’s first superhero is being recycled, and it seems like only the truest fans are going through the trash. Legendary Pictures is remaking Troma Entertainment’s 1984 superhero splatter comedy, The Toxic Avenger. Directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman, who wrote the screenplay with Joe Ritter, the original is a campy and violent low budget B-movie which became a cult phenomenon after midnight showings at the West Village’s Bleecker Street Cinema. It spawned a franchise, a cartoon, a Broadway play, and a legion of dedicated fans. Legendary’s remake was first announced in 2019 with Peter Dinklage attached.
