In the long list of series that broke fans’ hearts with their endings, people often debate whether to place the ending of Lost above or below that of Game of Thrones. While this question may never be definitively answered, the heartbreak is immeasurable and will likely echo through the generations.

“Lost” premiered on ABC on Sept. 22, 2004, but one of its key players didn’t appear until Season 2: Villain-you-love-to-hate Benjamin Linus, played with spooky intensity by Michael Emerson.
Among the biggest questions on the show, along with what was the black smoke and what was in the hatch, was whether the castaways of Flight 815 could trust a stranger they found in the jungle who claimed to be a stranded balloonist named Henry Gale. Spoiler: No. His real name was Benjamin Linus and they could never trust that slippery weasel.
On the show’s 20th anniversary, TheWrap spoke with Emerson about the “magic” of the show’s night-time shoots, his favorite scene partner and how his role — which was originally just a three-episode guest shot — became a pivotal part of the series.

Michael Emerson has played quite a few villainous characters over the years, with his latest role as Leland Townsend on Paramount+‘s Evil—gone too soon, sadly, after four seasons. And if you ask him, that’s not even his most evil character! “Leland would vote for himself to be the most evil, but then he’s really, he’s too much of a weenie to be truly the most evil,” he told TV Insider when he stopped by to discuss the final season of Evil and we asked him to pick his most villainous character. Nor would he consider his Lost character for the top spot. “Ben Linus, he’s not hardly a villain at all, is he? That’s a case of good writing and good context,” he explained. “When we meet him, we have our band of lovable castaways, and then we have the dark, dangerous island...

Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) has made her fair share of deals with devils. Over the course of four seasons of the Paramount+ show "Evil," the semi-skeptical forensic psychologist has killed a man, burned her hand on a cross, and had sex with a Satanic church founder. In the show's final season, she also helped raise the potential antichrist: a baby born via surrogate from her stolen eggs and world-class creep Leland Townsend's (Michael Emerson) DNA. It's no surprise, then, that "Evil" ends on a delightfully complicit note, with Kristen pulling an "I pretend I do not see it" meme when baby Timothy starts exhibiting some clear-cut signs of demonic possession.
In the series finale's final scene, Kristen and her daughters seem to have their happy ending. They've just moved to Rome and are loving it. Kristen is continuing her work surveying possible demonic activity alongside David (Mike Colter), the...

"Evil" co-creators Michelle and Robert King have opened up about what a potential season 5 for the series would've looked like, and as expected, it would've gotten weird ... like, "The Good Fight" crossover-level weird. The showrunners sat down with TV Insider after the show's finale to explain what a fifth season might have looked like had the Paramount+ show not been canceled.
"You saw a little of it in the first two episodes," Robert King told the outlet. "We were going to do more with court and the court system and how demonic it can be. There were going to be more demons kind of infecting the courthouse and Kristen was going to have to be much more involved." As you may recall, season 4 does include a judicial system subplot, with demon-loving creep Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) attempting to skirt justice after the death of Kristen's mom. A priest, a psychologist, and a scientist... It may sound like the start of a joke, but it’s the unstoppable trio at the heart of Michelle and Robert King's Evil. Originally debuting on CBS in 2019 before transitioning to Paramount+ for subsequent seasons, the show has delivered one of the most gripping horror thrillers of recent years. When the decision was made to cancel the series, the creators crafted an additional four episodes, ensuring that fans received the finale they deserved—and what a finale it was!
Season 4 proved just as absorbing, intense, and twisted as its predecessors. The creators didn’t ease off the gas; instead, they treated viewers to one of the best seasons yet, delivering justice not just to the lead characters but to the supporting ensemble as well. Hell hath no fury like fans who lose a brilliant show before its time. Such is the case with Evil, the supernatural series unlike anything else on screens. When word came down from on high that Evil would end with the conclusion of its fourth season, fans rallied online to save the show from cancelation, with the show’s brilliant star, Katja Herbers, leading the charge. Herber’s enthusiasm for the series is inspiring, with the actress championing the show’s continuation at every turn, signaling to networks and streamers that Team Evil is ready and willing to continue the show’s unique spin on the all but extinct and nostalgic monster-of-the-week formula. Helping to add fuel to Herbers’ fire is the Master of Horror himself, Stephen King, who recently sang Evil’s praises during a PBS News interview. With such a ringing endorsement from one of entertainment’s most sought-after creators,...

For audiences, the four seasons of Robert and Michelle King’s “Evil” have been the stuff of nightmares. For Oscar-winning prosthetics artist Joel Harlow, it was the stuff of childhood dreams.
“This is the high water mark of my professional career in terms of artist fulfillment,” Harlow told IndieWire over Zoom a few days before the series finale aired August 22 on Paramount+. “This is what I wanted to do as a kid.”
Harlow means that literally. In most instances, the “Evil” script would merely say, “Joel will deliver us something terrifying.” And starting with the sleep paralysis demon George, that’s just what he did.
“Evil” followed three assessors for the Catholic church — a priest (Mike Colter), an agnostic psychiatrist (Katja Herbers), and an atheist scientist (Aasaf Mandvi) as they evaluated a case of the week to determine if an exorcism was needed while battling demons in their personal lives.

“They were slow to suggest that we would keep going. What with the strike and all and some changes happening at Paramount+, I didn’t think [a renewal] was a given by any means,” he said of the show’s cancellation after four seasons.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about the Evil series finale “Fear of the End,” which dropped this morning on Paramount+
In the end, Evil truly brought evil to the heart of the Catholic church with a potential Antichrist baby now being wheeled around the sunny Vatican by its mother Dr. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and its priestly guardian of sorts David Acosta (Mike Colter).
Talk about going dark.
“The punchline at the end, is this kid possibly, or probably, is the Antichrist, and Lexis (Maddy Crocco), the second youngest, is probably going to be this evil protector to him,” says Evil co-creator and finale director Robert King of the fanged and white-eyed baby staring up at his mother. “Then it comes down to Kristen, who’s always mother first to protect those two, and actually probably to the detriment of humankind, but to the benefit of her family, which is just comic to us.

The age of streaming is full of problems. TV shows are getting extremely expensive, seasons are getting too short while the wait between them becomes too long, and shows are getting canceled before they have a chance to hit their groove. Rhiannon Fish has starred in many Hallmark films, but as she shared with me in a phone interview, A Costa Rican Wedding is one of her all-time favorites.
Rhiannon stars as Emily, the maid of honor at her best friend Phoebe’s wedding. Her ex-boyfriend, Shane, recently dumped her, and she wants the wedding to be perfect since she’s been crashing at Phoebe’s ever since.
In A Costa Rican Wedding, Emily deals with Phoebe’s family, who thinks she’s accident-prone and will ruin the wedding. She’s horrified when a monkey takes off with the wedding bands and has to turn to her arch-rival Ryan (Christopher Russell), a local tour guide, to help her find them.

Have we really reached the penultimate episode?
Is Evil Season 4 Episode 13 the last time we will be looking forward to another episode of this thought-provoking series?
Dammit, it’s just mean to bring Evil to a screeching halt.
(Alyssa Longchamp/Paramount+)
We’ve got a full recap of “Fear the Unholy” if you’re looking for details. Here’s where the discussion happens (as if I could ever hope to do Evil justice with words on a page).
There was no hiding the fact that Kristen’s words were spoken on behalf of everyone who has brought Evil to life and those of us who have watched it. It’s not just sad; it’s mean.
(Alyssa Longchamp/Paramount+)
We’re literally at the end of the road, but there is still so much to be explored. Just look at this list of goodies:
There were two “case of the week” storylines.

“I am hell bent on bringing Leland down,” says Katja Herbers, speaking as psychologist, mom, and sometime exorcist Dr. Kristen Bouchard, as the philosophical horror/comedy/drama Evil approaches its final two intense—and scary—episodes. Who can blame her? Leland (a mesmerizing Michael Emerson), a former “Friend of the Vatican” turned Devil’s disciple, destroyed Kristen’s marriage, killed her mother (and his onetime acolyte) Sheryl (Christine Lahti), tried to murder one of her daughters, and after fertilizing Kristen’s stolen egg, created a possible baby Antichrist! Despite her anger and worries, Kristen eventually took in baby Timothy, whom she never believed was the Antichrist, after he was secretly baptized by, of all people, the unbeliever Sheryl. So far, her natural mothering instinct seem to be winning. “She can’t help but probably love the child,” the actress says, as do her adoring four daughters. TV Insider was lucky...

“I’ve always felt throughout my career that you can always get the audience to a slightly darker place if you tell them a couple of jokes along the way,” says Fallout executive producer/director Jonathan Nolan about the approach and tone the multi-Emmy-nominated Prime Video drama has taken in its debut season.
Joined by fellow EP and co-showrunner Graham Wagner and star Walton Goggins, Nolan was speaking at Deadline’s virtual Contenders Television: The Nominees event.
Portlandia alum Wagner agrees with Nolan’s Pov on mixed-genre storytelling.
“I think that good drama has humor, and it always has,” the showrunner says. “As we’ve sort of seen in the last 20 years, great calamities can happen, and humans are still going to be idiosyncratic, weird and a little, I don’t love the word quirky, but little quirky.”

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 12 “Fear of the Other.”] We had a feeling that Leland’s (Michael Emerson) trial would go his way—Evil couldn’t end with it being the legal system that took him down, after all—but we didn’t quite expect the twist that brings it to a close. First, Boggs (Kurt Fuller) takes the stand as Leland’s psychiatrist, and Kristen (Katja Herbers) watches in surprise. When Boggs hesitates to give his professional opinion of the defendant, his lawyer Henry (John Carroll Lynch), appearing as a demon to the psychiatrist, leans in close. Boggs says he suffers from schizophrenia and dissociative identity disorder, which have rendered him so ill that he can’t realize the criminality of his actions. But Boggs doesn’t stop there, as much as Henry wants him to. He says that Leland is a considerable threat to public safety and should be locked...

It seems like there can’t be a truly happily ever after for Kristen (Katja Herbers) and David (Mike Colter)—she’s married, he’s a priest—on Evil, but with the show coming to an end with just the four bonus episodes left, might there be a solution somehow that makes everyone happy? After all, yes, Kristen is married, but she is once again raising the four girls by herself; her husband Andy (Patrick Brammall), due to what Leland (Michael Emerson) and Sheryl (Christine Lahti) have done to him, is in a psychiatric hospital. And while Sheryl, before her death, did clue Kristen in on what Leland was doing in that back room in his apartment—which then led to his arrest—she doesn’t know that her husband was one of the victims. Right now, Kristen is “compartmentalizing a lot just to be able to function,” raising four children and doing her job,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the tenth episode of Evil season four, “How to Survive a Storm.”]
There are few mother-daughter relationships in recent TV history as complicated as that the one played out between Christine Lahti and Katja Herbers during the last four seasons of Evil.
Lahti’s Sheryl, originally comic relief in the supernatural drama as the dippy babysitter to her grandchildren, became increasingly at odds with Herbers’ Kristen — on account of Sheryl’s personal and professional relationship with the series’ de facto villain: Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson). The shit really hit the fan when Kristen found out her mom was involved in a demonic IVF scheme, one in which Kristen’s stolen egg was fertilized with Leland’s sperm to bring forth the antichrist. (Ugh, moms!)
It would have been a lot to come back from, so, naturally, they never did. Sheryl died during the July 25 episode “How to Survive a Storm,” potentially earning some redemption...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 10 “How to Survive a Storm.”] “I think it was the best season for Sheryl by far,” says Christine Lahti. And it was, but Evil Season 4 was also a heartbreaking one. Sheryl tried to kill Leland (Michael Emerson), only for it to backfire on her—she wasn’t expecting him to have a demonic henchman there to knock her out after she drugged him. A “fall” from a fourth-floor balcony landed her in the hospital, and she died from her injuries. But she did manage to take down Leland in another way—she left a video with Kristen (Katja Herbers) showing the back room in his apartment where he drained victims, leading to his arrest. “It was such a fun season for me,” Lahti tells TV Insider. “I got so much to do, and leading up to my demise, I think the Kings wanted the audience to really care about Sheryl, ...

Earlier this year, “Succession” garnered a whopping 15 Primetime Emmy nominations: a bid for Best Drama Series and 14 for acting. This article contains spoilers for the Lost finale and the epilogue “The New Man In Charge.”
Perhaps you may have heard, but the Lost finale was a touch controversial. As one of the biggest network TV dramas of all time and one of pop culture’s great “mystery box” stories, this ABC series had a lot of questions to answer in its final season.
Some would argue that Lost did a mostly fine job of resolving its many mysteries. In fact, that’s the official position taken here at Den of Geek. Many others, however, have found the finale’s focus on emotional catharsis over logical resolutions to be unsatisfying. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, something that the latter crowd sometimes misses in their interpretation of the Lost finale is that “The End” isn’t really the end. That’s right: there’s an epilogue to the Lost...

When TV Insider asked Carrie Preston for her dream guest star in Elsbeth Season 2, she told us with a laugh, “You know I have to say Michael Emerson.” Preston and Emerson are married and have worked together onscreen before, including on Person of Interest. Executive producer Robert King, noting that past collaboration, told us ahead of the CBS drama’s premiere that having them back together “would be so much fun.” And so when we caught up with Emerson recently—he’s currently starring on another Robert and Michelle King show, Evil (now airing its final season)—we had to ask him what kind of role he’d want to play if that came to fruition. “Gee, I honestly don’t know. With the series winding down—it’s currently in its final season, consisting of 10 episodes, then four bonus ones, with the sixth dropping on June 27—the question has to be asked: Will Leland, as the villain of the show, survive? Last year, the nominees for both Best Drama Guest Actor and Best Drama Guest Actress were drawn from just two shows: “The Last of Us” and “Succession.” The former reaped a lucky seven nominations while the latter nabbed five. We don’t think any show will manage to snag that many nominations across these two drama guest acting categories this year but we do think one show will land more bids than any other: Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. And Mrs. Smith.”

Glover stars in the lead role opposite “Pen15” actress and creator Maya Erskine. The two multi-hyphenates feature as a pair of spies (John and Jane) who must pretend to be a couple and complete missions together. The episodes each depict the stages of a relationship through the prism a spy thriller.
