Lil Dicky shared plenty of personal thoughts — including those regarding his fire and his own desire — during his set at Ayu Dayclub in Las Vegas.
The star, aka Dave Burd, took the stage with frequent collaborator GaTa at a Saturday concert from the Resorts World venue to perform an array of his own crowd favorites and a couple covers. Lil Dicky and GaTa share a long history and appear together on the FX comedy series Dave, which offers a fictionalized version of the satirical rapper and is currently on hiatus after the season three finale aired last year.
Lil Dicky performed the poolside show in front of an enthusiastic Vegas crowd, singing such signature tunes as “Save Dat Money,” “Freaky Friday,” “Pillow Talking” and “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.” Lil Dicky frequently interacted with the audience, which included his surprised reaction to a fan’s request that he reveal a certain body part.

Streaming service Hulu is continuing its expansion into original comedy programming with the announcement of a new comedy special from up-and-coming comedian Chris Distefano. Titled “It’s Just Unfortunate,” the one-hour special was executive produced by late night host Jimmy Kimmel. Distefano joins several other prominent comedians who have recently brought their stand-up acts to Hulu, such as Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, and Jessica Kirson.
The new special marks Hulu’s latest effort to compete more directly with Netflix in the market for streaming comedy specials. Netflix has long led the way producing and distributing original comedy performances. However, Hulu has been steadily building up its own catalog through deals with comedians, producers, and comedy clubs. Distefano previously released his special “Speshy Weshy” on Netflix in 2022.
Distefano has worked as a comedian for over a decade, gaining experience on MTV shows and developing a large fanbase in New York City.

Hulu is continuing to double down on stand-up specials.
The streamer will air Chris Distefano’s third stand-up special as it ramps up its moves into comedy.
Distefano’s hour-long special – It’s Just Unfortunate – is exec produced by Jimmy Kimmel.
He joins the likes of Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood Jr., Atsuko Okatsuka and Jessica Kirson, who are bringing their stand-up specials to the Disney-backed streamer as it looks to take on the likes of Netflix by aggressively moving into the genre.
Hulu has also licensed a number of specials from the likes of 800 Pound Gorilla, Comedy Dynamics, and Don’t Tell Comedy.
Last year, Distefano sold out Radio City Music Hall and the Theater at Madison Square Garden. He started his career on MTV’s Guy Code and Girl Code before starring in IFC’s Benders, co-hosting Netflix’s Ultimate Beastmaster and hosting Vice TV’s Super Maximum Retro Show.

Chris Distefano is bringing his comedy to Hulu.
His latest hour, which is being executive produced by Jimmy Kimmel, arrives as the streaming service makes an aggressive push into the stand-up arena, elbowing its way into an increasingly frothy market that’s been dominated by Netflix in recent years. It’s Just Unfortunate, as Distefano’s new special is titled, is his third, following previous hours Size 38 Waist and Speshy Weshy at Comedy Central and Netflix, respectively.
The Hulu stand-up initiative, which it’s dubbed “Hularious,” is set to kick off in earnest in November with a special from comedy vet Jim Gaffigan. From there, it will look to distinguish itself from rivals by dropping a new hour each month. “The mantra is very much quality over quantity,” Hulu’s head of scripted content Jordan Helman told THR of the platform’s curated approach. Bill Burr says he doesn’t like “naming names and shit,” but when he talks about the handsome young comic with the abs, it’s pretty clear he’s talking about Matt Rife.
“There’s a comic over here,” he told comedian Tommy Tiernan on his Monday Morning Podcast. “He’s young, he’s good-looking, he’s crushing it.”
“Yeah, muscles,” replied Tiernan, impersonating a Rife flex. “I don’t like ‘em.”
Tiernan’s not alone, and Burr doesn’t think the hate is healthy. Why is everyone so obsessed with (probably) Rife’s success? “Younger comics, I get that because they started out at the same time. You’re young, you’re going to fall into that comparison stuff.”
But what’s the excuse for comedians of Burr’s generation? Burr is tired of “watching older comics having an issue with this person just because they’re successful,” he explained.

The Irish people became natural comedians because “we had no choice,” Irish comic Tommy Tiernan told Bill Burr on his Monday Morning podcast. “That’s why we are like that. It’s not like we had to choose between being masters of the world and singers — we had no choice, we had no money.”
“We’re good at talking,” Tiernan said. “We love music and drinking and singing and crying and fighting amongst each other."
In other words, the Irish basically “get life,” Burr said. “You get what life is about.”
Much of the Irish sense of humor was based on being poor, Tiernan explained. “When you have no money, when you got nothing, what do you do?”
Over here, joked Burr, you get a gun and start robbing people.
That wasn’t how it worked in the old days, Tiernan says. Instead, the Irish would concoct a drink made...

Ray Romano says cruise ships are the worst place to do stand-up comedy. Tom Papa calls them “a dumb idea of a good vacation.” Bill Burr says that if he were dictator of the world and needed to thin the herd, he’d start by randomly sinking cruise ships. Comedians aren’t uniformly aligned on many topics, but they all agree on this: The only thing worse than vacationing on a cruise ship is performing on one.
Well, guess what, smart-ass comics? Turns out cruise passengers hate you too. According to Cruise Passenger, there are several reasons why many floating tourists are sick and tired of jokes on the high seas.

As part of the new effort, Hulu will also launch a curated collection of licensed specials, a mix of iconic hours and recent releases.
“The mantra is very much quality over quantity,” Hulu’s head of scripted content Jordan Helman said recently of the platform’s curated approach.

From an outsider’s perspective, it sure didn’t seem like Bill Burr, with his seven stand-up specials, animated sitcom and feature film screenwriting debut all produced and/or platformed by Netflix, had any reason at all to hitch his career to a different streamer’s wagon. Then Hulu (reportedly) gave him 15 million of them.
By the time Burr filmed his first Netflix original stand-up special, Walk Your Way Out, in 2017, the streaming giant had already overtaken HBO as the stand-up kingmakers of the comedy world beyond basic cable. Burr would go on to shoot three more Netflix originals and license three others to the streamer, and he would soon launch his series F Is for Family and his kids-these-days comedy film Old Dads with the bright red N for New Kids on the Comedy Block.
But Burr was far from the only stand-up A-lister to make Netflix his new home.

It’s not unusual for comedians like Mike Birbiglia, Colin Quinn or Alex Edelman to bring shows to Broadway, says New York Theatre Guide. So when the news came out today that comic Bill Burr was headed to Broadway as well, it wasn’t that shocking — until you learn that Burr won’t be doing stand-up at all. Instead, the guy whose most famous acting credit is The Mandalorian is taking on David Mamet.
Burr is joining Bob Odenkirk and Kieran Culkin in a revival of Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Glengarry Glenn Ross, set to open in the spring of 2025. While Odenkirk (Mr. Show) and Culkin (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) also come from comedy backgrounds, their serious acting chops are well established, with nine Emmy nominations for dramatic acting between them. Culkin also has a Broadway notch on his belt, appearing in 2014’s This is Our Youth.

Glengarry Glen Ross is coming back to Broadway. Boasting a killer cast of Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Bill Burr, the new run of David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning stage play is set to open in the spring of 2025.
The production will mark the Broadway debut of both Odenkirk and Burr. Culkin, for his part, hit the stage in 2014, appearing in This Is Our Youth. Wrangling the actors will be director Patrick Marber, who previously helmed the Tony-winning Leopoldstadt.

Coffee may be for closers, and now acclaimed actors Kieran Culkin, Bob Odenkirk, and Bill Burr are getting their own highly caffeinated taste of Broadway legend.
The trio will lead the revival of David Mamet’s iconic play “Glengarry Glen Ross” in Spring 2025. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning drama was famously adapted into the 1992 film starring Alec Baldwin, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin, and Al Pacino.
“Glengarry Glen Ross” is set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top, per the official synopsis.
Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award winner Culkin returns to Broadway after his turn in “Succession” and the upcoming “A Real Pain.

At the tail end of June, Bill Burr took the stage at Seattle’s Moore Theatre, where he filmed his eighth stand-up special. His last few specials had been with Netflix, where he’d been part of an illustrious roster that includes Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Ali Wong and Jerry Seinfeld.
But those who know Burr say he wanted to feel important — or at least less like a cog in the wheel at a streaming behemoth, which now spits out specials on a weekly basis and largely relies on internal algorithms to get them seen. Plus, there was an excitement about being on the ground floor of something new. So Burr inked a deal with Hulu, the latest entrant to what’s quickly become an arms race for stand-up specials, one of few bright spots in an otherwise bleak entertainment landscape. Back in February 1952, the fourth-ever Primetime Emmy Awards were hosted by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the married couple behind “I Love Lucy,” from the Cocoanut Grove at the now-demolished Ambassador Hotel. It was also the last time spouses oversaw the proceedings. And actually, only one duo has even hosted the Emmys this century — Michael Che and Colin Jost in 2018.
Why all the Emmy hosting trivia? It’s on my mind as we play the classic awards parlor game of “Who’s Gonna Host This Thing?” — and with less than two months before the Emmys take place on Sept. 15, we’re running out of time for this year’s emcee to properly prep for the gig. In the parlance of stand-up comedy, Sam Morril is a killer, and with You’ve Changed, his new special unveiled today on Prime Video today, he’s hit on some his best work yet.
One of the great New York up-and-comers known for his sharp, dark, deadpan sensibility, Morril’s work is unapologetically honest and sometimes provocative, as reflected in his quartet of past specials. Most recently debuting Same Time Tomorrow on Netflix, his new hour sees him riff on topics like the worst person he’s ever dated, the complications of getting older, and his perspective on everything from cable news to the perils of social media. He taped it at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, Ma, which he sold out nine times last year.

For years, stand-up comedy superstar Bill Burr mercilessly and hilariously mocked Star Wars and Star Wars fans. However, no one was laughing once Burr landed a role in Star Wars.
In Hollywood, it sure seems that every single performer who finds success on either side of the comedy/drama divide suddenly decides that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence as soon as they get famous. Every Oscar-winner thinks that they’re funny and secretly wants to guest star on Abbott Elementary. Conversely, every sitcom star who builds a name for themselves by busting guts makes their agent send them out for every meaty, serious and ill-fitting part in the newest A24 drama.
Stand-up comedians, however, exist entirely in their own sphere, where even their attempts to become comic actors can fail spectacularly, despite some assuming that the transition from stage to camera would be a natural one.

Jiminy Glick, perhaps Bill Maher’s only rival as the most grating celebrity interviewer, showed up on Real Time this weekend to quiz Maher on his new book, What This Comedian Said Will Shock You. The entertaining interview managed to simultaneously roast Maher without mercy while failing to land blows that drew blood.
You can’t say that Glick, the obese, oblivious alter-ego of Martin Short, didn’t get off some good lines, though. Here’s a sample of the insults thrown Maher’s way during their 10-minute conversation:
“This is going to be so exciting for me! I’m used to interviewing celebrities so this is a nice change of pace.”“You’re in wonderful shape, Bill — for someone who’s let himself go.”“Your smile is like an email from grandma: all caps.”“As an author, is this how you, Bill Burr, see yourself?”“Everyone seems to love...

Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted is as much about its cameos as it is about Kellogg’s iconic breakfast pastry. Who needs punchlines when you can create a litany of “Hey, that’s Comedian XYZ!” moments. Bill Burr, Mikey Day, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, Patrick Warburton, Cedric the Entertainer, Sebastian Maniscalco, Earthquake, Jack McBrayer — that’s hardly scratching the surface of the “blink or you’ll miss ‘em” moments provided by Seinfeld’s directorial debut.
You can catch several of the cameos in the movie’s trailer, but one in particular was kept a secret — the pitch from a couple of mad men at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce. But Jon Hamm, a guy who is normally game for any comedy from Saturday Night Live to Between Two Ferns: The Movie, wasn’t sure bringing back Don Draper to pitch Pop-Tarts was a good idea. “I was of two minds,” Hamm told The Hollywood Reporter.

Life was a little easier for Tom Brady at his induction into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame than it was during his red-hot Netflix roast. Brady was honored by the team last weekend — six Super Bowl rings will do that for a guy — with former teammates like Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Rob Gronkowski on hand to sing his praises. Nowhere during the ceremony did anyone come close to Nikki Glaser’s epic burn from last month: “You have seven rings. Well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back.”
Bill Burr was on hand to warm up the crowd, but the Patriots decided to exercise some editorial control over his punchlines. And surprisingly, the joke that offended them the most wasn’t even at Brady’s expense — the target was Brady’s long-time rival, Peyton Manning.
Burr shared the joke on his Monday Morning Podcast. “I was gonna be like,...

Filmed in Madison, Wi, the special comes at a time when Ray’s popularity has reached new heights, in part due to his success with a satirical take, in full prosthetics, on daytime talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw — as seen in his digital series, Dr. Phil Live!. A sweet and gracious and often painfully labored dramedy about a stand-up comic who struggles to connect with his autistic 11-year-old son, Tony Goldwyn’s “Ezra” rides an emotional honesty that’s almost completely undone by the sweaty contrivances of its plotting. But this modest little movie’s refusal to be limited by its “problem” — its insistence that stories involving neurodiverse characters can, should, and must touch on a wider range of human experience if they hope to ring true — feels like a step in the right direction for how such people are depicted on screen and seen in the world. It’s an approach that’s sure to resonate with anyone whose kid is on the spectrum, their autism just one ingredient in the endlessly complex soup of who they are and how they’re raised.
It’s also an approach, “Ezra” suggests, that requires a hard-won degree of finesse.

After hustling for nearly two decades to build a career as an actor and stand-up comedian, Adam Ray has recently hit on an entirely new level of exposure. The person he has to thank for it, you might be surprised to hear, is none other than Dr. Phil.
For many a performer, Ray tells Deadline, the goal is to hone one’s craft until hitting on something “that’s yours” and yours alone. This is what he’s accomplished with Dr. Phil Live!, a digital series garnering huge attention online of later, in which he plays a heightened version of the popular daytime talk show host, with the help of detailed prosthetics.
