Ae Watan Mere Watan
It is strange, but director Kannan Iyer has directed just one other film in his entire career. Ek Thi Dayan in 2013 featured Konkona Sen Sharma as a, ha ha, witch. Which, if you think about it, is just the antithesis of what Sara Ali Khan plays in Iyer’s second film.
Ae Watan Mere Watan warmly embraces all the shining trophy-like atrophied tropes of desh-bhakti films, and yet succeeds in being a trifle removed from its flag-waving origins.
Sara Ali Khan, so far known for making faces on camera, withdraws into a quietly assured space to play Usha Mehta, a fierce nationalist who combated colonialism in her own way by manning an underground radio station propagating the views and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi while he, the Mahatma, was jailed.
Uniquely, the character Usha Mehta’s fight for freedom is in-sync with the actress’ flight into freedom.

Satyajit Ray is broadly regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time, and his acclaims support the claim. His works are mostly based on the Bengali language movie industry in India. However, he made two movies in the Hindi language, both based on the works of the famed author Munshi Premchand. “Sadgati,” a TV movie, is often considered amongst Ray’s least impressive movies. His first movie in the Hindi language, nevertheless, is a different story. “The Chess Players” is often included in the conversation of the best Ray films and is frequently said to be one of the most calculated movies made by the director.

A demand for LSD made by one of his actors during the shoot of their film M Cream left director Agneya Singh in complete shock. After all, when the debutant director kept stressing on his actors to bring realism to their characters in their scenes, little had he imagined that it would get him into a far more complicated situation than he had bargained for.
Now, there are several instances when actors have gone that extra mile to get under the skin of their characters. So, actors taking to alcohol to play alcoholics, or actors following certain diets to look the part is quite acceptable and even encouraged by the filmmakers. However, Agneya Singh was at a loss of words when one of the actors on the sets of his upcoming film M Cream requested him to get them some LSD while shooting to infuse some realism in one of the crucial scenes.

The makers of period drama San Pachhattar have decided to incorporate the speech given by India's first lady Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Set in the era of emergency, the film stars Kay Kay Menon in the lead.
In 1975 Indira Gandhi had imposed emergency in India and the country came to know about it via an announcement at an unscheduled early hour's speech of Indira Gandhi at All India Radio. This Indira Gandhi's deceleration of speech has been used in Kay Kay Menon's forthcoming release San Pachhattar. This is the first time where this speech that was given by Indira Gandhi at Air in the year 1975 is used in the film as a song. "The audio rights of the famous Indira Gandhi Emergency speech is taken from All India Radio and the video right is taken from Film Division of India as they are the sole rights holder," said producer Kabir Lovee.

In writer-director Agneya Singh’s first feature film, M Cream, four entitled, privileged Delhi twenty-somethings — Maggie (Auritra Ghosh), Niz (Raaghav Chanana), Jay (Ira Dubey) and Figs (Imaad Shah) head off on a road trip in search of a mythical drug, M Cream. Along the way, they have the opportunity to explore political issues, hook up with an aging American hippie (played by theatre director Barry John), attend a rave, take an LSD trip in an orange grove, write some poetry, and save some trees.
Singh’s film attempts to explore the effects of a changing India on his own young generation, and wants to show us how they, as a generation, navigate and make sense of those changes, and how they learn to adapt to the world – or, how they make their world adapt to them.
The film asks, in a sense, what it means to be a rebel or a revolutionary.

Malegaon (Maharashtra), Jan 5: Thespian Tom Alter said that he learnt Urdu from his American Christian missionary father and read the Holy Bible in the language during his childhood days.
Alter recited five verses from the Bible in fluent Urdu in front of a huge and surprised audience, which roared in approval, at the inaugural of the All India Urdu Book Fair held as part of the 10-day Urdu Festival here Saturday night.
"How can Urdu belong to Muslims or any other particular religion when it described God's message with such beauty," Alter said, dismissing wrongly-held contentions that the Urdu language belongs to the Muslim.

New Delhi, July 16: He has comfortably slipped into playing Sardar Patel and Lord Mountbatten on screen and effortlessly reprised the roles of Urdu poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and Maulana Azad on stage. But thespian Tom Alter - often called a "firang" for his western looks but who insists he is an Indian - desires to enact the roles of two stalwarts of partition, Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
"Jinnah is a very controversial figure to play. But I personally feel there is something to learn from him. Why he became a fanatic, no one knows. If we can find that out, I am sure there must be something to learn from it," Alter.

Why do you name a film Cycle Kick? Because the first half of the film deals with cycle and the latter half with football! And that is not the only bit where the film disappoints. It is Vittorio De Sica’s Bicycle Thieves rendered in an Indian milieu; where the father-son story has been transposed on two orphaned brothers living in a village by the river-side. Much to the dismay of the viewers, the writer lacks originality to the point that one of the professions of the elder brother is putting up Bollywood posters around the village, for which a bicycle would be vital. Only if my brother had a bicycle, he could put up 50 posters everyday instead of 25, the younger brother wishes.
Indian stories cannot be devoid of miracles. Here, the protagonist doesn’t need to pawn bedsheets to buy a bicycle; the two brothers find a bicycle one...
