This post contains spoilers for the two-episode Season Three premiere of Reservation Dogs, which is now streaming on Hulu.
“Bussin,” the first of this week’s two episodes, opens in typical, wonderful Reservation Dogs fashion. A tumbleweed blows across the plains, a Native warrior rides into the center of the frame, and calls out to all us young and old warriors watching from more comfortable surroundings. This is classic Old West right here, but the iconography is instantly undercut by the fact that the warrior in question is our pal William Knifeman,...

Dalíland director Mary Hallon has said that Ezra Miller has not been removed from the forthcoming film after their name did not appear on a film festival cast list.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, has been involved in several recent allegations ranging from disorderly conduct and assault to burglary.
Last week, they said that they were in a period of “intense crisis” and “suffering complex mental health issues”.
Earlier in the month, a cast list had been announced for the TIFF premiere of Dalíland, a film which sees both Miller and Ben Kingsley star as Salvador Dalí.
With Miller’s name not among the cast list, some had speculated that they had been cut from the film.
However, director Hallon has now told Vanity Fair that this is not the case and that the actor still appears in three scenes.
“[Miller] turned in a completely realised performance,” she said.

Ezra Miller’s run of troubling behavior and alleged criminal conduct may be winding down.
In a statement released late Monday night, the 29-year-old actor said they were seeking help for “complex mental health issues,” following a number of run-ins with the law and a torrent of bad press following accusations of abuse.
“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” the statement read. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
Warner Bros. Discovery still has “The Flash,” a finished film directed by Andy Muschetti with a budget believed to be 200 million, on the calendar for June 23, 2023. New studio head David Zaslav is...

Right before the pandemic shut everything down, longtime friends and actors Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten met at a bar in Los Angeles. As the pair drank, “I was like ‘Kiowa, wouldn’t it be cool to work on a show together?'” Matten told IndieWire via Zoom. The pair decided to “manifest it,” taking a photo to commemorate the occasion.
That manifestation has come to pass, with the pair working together on AMC’s new murder mystery series, “Dark Winds,” focused on two Navajo detectives (Zahn McClarnon and Gordon) trying to solve a double homicide. Gordon, McClarnon, and Matten are all Hollywood veterans and see the series as more than a vehicle for a leading role; it’s a chance to let their Indigenous communities see themselves outside the frame of trauma.

The parents of Gibson Iron Eyes — a Standing Rock activist who Ezra Miller met when Gibson was 12 — are seeking a protective order on behalf of the now-18-year-old, according to documents obtained by Rolling Stone. Robert Mitchum intercedes in a range war in this ‘A’ western, and he’s got the pro team of director Robert Wise and cameraman Nicholas Musuraca on his side. All but one action scene plays out at night, which is why this is sometimes called a Noir Western. The dark visuals fit that mold but the story values are strictly traditional, starting with the hero’s laconic do-it-don’t-say-it sense of personal honor. Partly filmed in Arizona, the fine production further advanced the laid-back Mitchum persona, this time as an honest cowpoke, not a cool-dude hipster.

Wow! Fritz Lang's second western is a marvel -- a combo of matinee innocence and that old Germanic edict that character equals fate. It has a master's sense of color and design. Robert Young is an odd fit but Randolph Scott is nothing less than terrific. You'd think Lang was born on the Pecos. Updated with video: “Folks — I’m still here. The dark forces trying to silence my message of core conservative principles mixed with youth-friendly product placement have been thwarted!” Stephen Colbert raved tonight, in re the motherlode The Colbert Report hit when a Twitter campaign to cancel the show erupted last week after the network tweeted a line out of context from one of his comedy bits. He devoted his entire telecast to his rebuttal, at the end of which he and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone blew up @ColbertReport — the network’s official Twitter account for the program, from which had come the offending tweet. (The page no longer exists on Twitter.) “The Interweb tried to swallow me whole. But I am proud to say that I got lodged in its throat and it hacked me back up, like a hastily chewed chicken wing,” Colbert told fans who’d tuned in tonight,...

Kirk Douglas movies: The Theater of Larger Than Life Performances Kirk Douglas, a three-time Best Actor Academy Award nominee and one of the top Hollywood stars of the ’50s, is Turner Classic Movies’ "Summer Under the Stars" featured star today, August 30, 2013. Although an undeniably strong screen presence, no one could ever accuse Douglas of having been a subtle, believable actor. In fact, even if you were to place side by side all of the widescreen formats ever created, they couldn’t possibly be wide enough to contain his larger-than-life theatrical emoting. (Photo: Kirk Douglas ca. 1950.) Right now, TCM is showing Andrew V. McLaglen’s 1967 Western The Way West, a routine tale about settlers in the Old American Northwest that remains of interest solely due to its name cast. Besides Douglas, The Way West features Robert Mitchum, Richard Widmark, Lola Albright, and 21-year-old Sally Field in her The Flying Nun days.

Are we in the midst of a garbage crisis, up to our necks in trash and fast running out of space for landfills to put it all in?
In a word: No. If only it were that simple.
Americans are good at fixing such acute crises. Look what happened when the shame and disgust at rampant litter reached a tipping point in the 1960s: We collectively changed our behavior and did it quickly. Litter-bugs became the outliers rather than the norm.

Charles B. Pierce was a popular regional filmmaker who made his feature film debut as director, producer, and cinematographer for the 1972 docu-drama The Legend of Boggy Creek. The low-budget film dramatized the legend of a Sasquatch-like creature known as the Fouke Monster, that was reputed to terrorize the small town in Arkansas near Texarkana. Boggy Creek became a major hit on the drive-in circuit. Pierce also directed and wrote a 1985 pseudo-sequel, The Barbaric Beast of Boggy Creek, Part II, and appeared in the role of Professor Brian C. `Doc’ Lockart.
Pierce was born in Hammond, Indiana, on June 16, 1938, and moved to Hampton, Arkansas, with his family as a child. He operated an advertising agency in Texarkana, and began working in films as a set decorator in the mid-1960s. He worked on numerous film and television productions including Chuck Jones’ animated feature The Phantom Tollbooth (1970), and the films Pretty Maids All in a Row...

Wall-e is such a good, sappy, funny, adventurous, touching, and enjoyable movie, that by the time you get to the end you're exhausted. Plus you probably have a single tear sliding down your cheek like Iron Eyes Cody. So by the time the end credits roll, you're looking for something to bring you back down to Earth, no pun intended. Aw, who am I kidding -- that pun was definitely intended.
Thankfully that thing isn't a Randy Newman song, although it does come via his cousin Thomas Newman who thank all the stars above wisely lets Peter Gabriel sing the outtro song "Down to Earth." Hey, it netted him an Oscar nod. The song is slow, beautiful, and plays out against visual images depicting the "new" history of mankind on the planet: cave drawings, hieroglyphics, mosaics, sketches, pointilism, Van Gogh skies ... and when it finally slides down underground and turns into a traditional credit crawl,...
