Flashback to a time when Dwayne Johnson was still crossing over from the WWE to major Hollywood films. He was still being billed as “The Rock.” His physique was more muscular than monstrous. Fans and general audiences were finding out that his charismatic mic skills could transfer to fun, charismatic characters on screen. Johnson only had a couple of prior credits with The Mummy Returns and the spin-off The Scorpion King before he made the action comedy The Rundown from director Peter Berg.
2003’s The Rundown was Johnson’s sophomore starring effort and it would lay the groundwork for one of the biggest names in blockbuster movies for a number of years. Now, Kino Lorber will be releasing a new 4K Blu-ray of the film, which co-stars Sean William Scott, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Walken and Ewen Bremner. This new physical media release is expected to hit retailers sometime later this year.

Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.
“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”
Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

There’s a fascinating Instagram account that digs up paparazzi shots of stars attending premieres and film events in the 1990s. The main attraction is the outlandish fashion, but also the randomness of the guest list and the questions the images throw up: why were Angela Lansbury and John Oates invited to the Untouchables premiere in 1987? Did Sidney Poitier really enjoy Predator 2? Why did Richard Harris decide to bring his dog to the 1993 Independent Film awards?
One that caught my eye recently was the premiere of Danny Boyle’s Trainspotting in New York. Metallica are there, looking wild-eyed and inebriated, as is a smouldering Ray Liotta. An incredibly young-looking trio of Jonny Lee Miller, Boyle and Ewen Bremner attempt to fit in.

Of the many terribly interesting things touched on in Danny Boyle’s smart and skillful adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s 1993 debut novel, Trainspotting, it’s most tempting to contemplate facets that are only mildly developed. There is, for instance, the pointed, oddly chilling, and deeply funny monologue that Renton (Ewan McGregor), the closest thing that the audience is given to a hero here, delivers in opposition to his straight-arrow friend’s buoyant Scottish nationalism. As Renton barks at Tommy (Kevin McKidd), personal despondency is connected directly to lack of a unique cultural identity, which Renton is quick to see as a reflection of Scotland’s muddled ties to the United Kingdom.
The whole spiel doesn’t quite account for the astounding amount of heroin that Renton and his cronies pump into their corroded veins, attained through various burglaries and scams, but coupled with the dour, decrepit environs of Glasgow and...

Max is not moving forward with a third season of its period comedy series Our Flag Means Death. Deadline understands that the first two seasons will not be removed from the streaming service.
From David Jenkins, Our Flag Means Death is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge.
Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas … they found love. Now, they have to survive it.
The series also stars Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane,...

Warning: contains plot spoilers for Shetland series eight, episode two.
The Shetland islands only have a population of 22,000 – roughly a tenth of the number of people who go to Glastonbury Festival – so up there, you can expect to run into the same faces time and again. It’s no different for Scottish actors on TV. There are only a finite number, and in a long-running series like BBC One’s Shetland, sometimes cast-members get recycled from one role to another.
That’s what happened with Ann Louise Ross, the actor who plays farmer and widower Agnes Moffat in Shetland series eight. We first met Agnes in episode one, when (temporary Di) Tosh is investigating a series of livestock murders. Several of Agnes’ sheep have been found with their throats cut and daubed in their blood with a mysterious symbol.
In episode two, that same symbol is also found tattooed on...

David Jenkins, creator and showrunner of Max's pirate comedy "Our Flag Means Death," didn't know that episodes four and five would be released together at the same time when the show's creative team was first dreaming them up, but he tells Popsugar the pairing "makes sense" to him. "With a half-hour show particularly, the episodes can kind of build on each other in a nice way," he explains. And four and five do that really well since the relationship between Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard, aka Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) goes through some big changes during that time.
"Four is kind of them coming back together and talking again and even working through some of the issues and seeing a more f*cked up couple than them," Jenkins explains, referring to the relationship between Minnie Driver's Anne Bonny and Rachel House's...

“Is it just me, or does the energy around here seem off?”
So asks a pirate halfway through “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2, in a rather percipient observation for a one-time pyromaniac who’s now knitting a sweater he’s already wearing. Wee John (Kristian Nairn) is referring to his discombobulated crew, who’ve been thrown for a loop by a series of swift changes aboard their ship, the Revenge, but he may as well be summing up the similarly flummoxed second season. While “Our Flag Means Death” follows through on its first season’s promise to explore the relationship between Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Ed “Blackbeard” Teach (Taika Waititi), it flattens its overall story by lumping too many characters into the same lovestruck boat.

This article contains spoilers for Our Flag Means Death season 1.
The sitcom Our Flag Means Death has behaved in a very piratey way, quite frankly. When it burst onto the scene last year, it unexpectedly plundered fans’ hearts, leaving their new favorite ship – between Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi as Blackbeard – wrecked, and left us stranded on a cliffhanger of a finale desperate for a second series.
Thankfully, the treasure that is season two of Our Flag Means Death is released on Max on Oct. 5, and it’s as adorable as ever, with a whole crew of new characters to fall in love with:
Let’s meet the new characters, and discover which returning cast members are back:

Synopsis
Black Hawk Down
From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (The Martian) and renowned producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbor) comes the gripping true story about bravery, camaraderie, and the complex reality of war.
Black Hawk Down stars an exceptional cast including Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, and Eric Bana. In 1993, an elite group of American Rangers and Delta Force soldiers are sent to Somalia on a critical mission to capture a violent warlord whose corrupt regime has led to the starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. When the mission goes quickly and terribly wrong, the men find themselves outnumbered and literally fighting for their lives.
The Guns Of Navarone
Academy Award®-winners Gregory Peck, David Niven, and Anthony Quinn star as a team of Allied military specialists recruited for a dangerous but imperative mission: to infiltrate a Nazi-occupied fortress and disable two long-range field guns so that 2,000 trapped British soldiers may be rescued.

A pirate's life isn't all that it's cut out to be. On Sept. 14, HBO released the trailer for "Our Flag Means Death" season two, which finds our lovable band of chaotic pirates facing not just the perils of danger but also of love. When the Max series, starring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as pirates Stede Bonnet and Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), premiered in 2022, it roped fans in as a comedy stacked with famously funny actors - but it's the budding romance between the two pirate leads that made them stay. In season two, Stede is trying to win back Ed, while Ed is intent on killing him.
The series was originally renewed back in June 2022. David Jenkins, the show's creator, said in a statement at the time, "We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans' open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes...

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

Stede insists he and Blackbeard are on a break, refuses to admit he dumped the handsome pirate, and is shocked when Blackbeard declares their status as “former” shipmates in the trailer for Max’s Our Flag Means Death season two. The two-minute trailer puts fans through the wringer as it teases a “will they or won’t they reunite” scenario for the upcoming season.
The eight-episode second season stars Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, Taiki Waititi as Captain Blackbeard, Samson Kayo as Oluwande, Vico Ortiz as Jim, Ewen Bremner as Buttons, Joel Fry as Frenchie, Matthew Maher as Black Pete, Kristian Nairn as Wee John Feeney, Con O’Neill as Izzy Hands, David Fane as Fang, Samba Schutte as Roach, Nat Faxon as The Swede, and Leslie Jones as Spanish Jackie. The Our Flag Means Death Season 2 teaser trailer sets sail this afternoon, with members of The Revenge charting a course for adventure on the high seas! Many of your favorite characters return from the original season with several new faces ready to smile a black-toothed grin for the cameras.
The new season of Our Flag Means Death begins with gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and softhearted bad boy Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) ruefully separated after finally realizing their love for each other at the end of season one. It’s “going to be unexpected and surprising, but also very pleasurable and satisfying for those who like the show,” says executive producer Garrett Basch. It “doesn’t follow the expected route,” teases Con O’Neill, who plays Blackbeard’s enthusiastic enforcer, Izzy.

Max has released the first Our Flag Means Death season two teaser trailer, and all I can say is it’s about damned time there’s some official news on the upcoming season.
Ofmd has an incredibly passionate fan base, and they’ve kept the series in the spotlight on Twitter since season one wrapped up on March 24, 2022. After announcing season two way back in June 2022 and keeping fans anxiously awaiting more of Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, Max has now confirmed the second season will premiere on October 5, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes.
Two new episodes of the eight-episode season will arrive on Thursdays, with the season finale set for October 26.

I've never been on a boat long enough to develop cabin fever. Still, I imagine it feels a little like having to wait several months for Warner Bros. Discovery to finally renew its surprise-hit queer pirate comedy series "Our Flag Means Death", and then having to wait another 14 months for hard evidence that season 2 is actually a thing that exists.
Thankfully, we can leave the passive aggression to 18th-century aristocratic high society for now, and instead take joy in knowing "Our Flag Means Death" is not only coming back for more hijinks and romance on the high seas, it's coming back soon. Picking up where season 1 left things, this new season will continue the love story of everyone's favorite pirate dads, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Ed" Teach/Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), as they -- hopefully! -- find their way back to one another after a series of unfortunate events...

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.
The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.
The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”
As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.

Max is hoping you’ll bust out the peg leg this Halloween. “Our Flag Means Death,” the streamer’s popular pirate comedy series, will return for Season 2 in October, the streamer announced Wednesday. The season will premiere on October 5, and Max also released a teaser to accompany the date announcement.
Created and showrun by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” is (extremely) loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a real-life English landowner in Barbados who had a brief and largely disastrous run as a pirate captain in 1717. The show turns Stede’s (played by Rhys Darby) journey to piracy into a sitcom, as the idealistic and inexperienced captain struggles to gain the respect of the crew of his ship, The Revenge. His fortunes look up when he teams up with Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) — better known as the infamous Blackbeard — and the too soon develop an unexpected friendship that turns into love.

A few years ago, director Oliver Harper made a documentary called In Search of the Last Action Heroes, which was described as “a comprehensive retrospective of the ’80s and ’90s action film genre.” One of the people interviewed for that documentary was screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who was a major contributor to the action genre in those decades, working on the likes of 48 Hrs., Commando, The Running Man, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Hudson Hawk, Ricochet, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Street Fighter, among others… with one of the others being the much-maligned Sylvester Stallone comic book movie Judge Dredd. In a moment that didn’t make it into the final cut of In Search of the Last Action Heroes, de Souza discussed the issues that Judge Dredd ran into, including bad marketing and a struggle to secure an R rating. Harper has been kind enough to share that deleted scene online,...

Tom Hardy spent almost a decade working under the radar in Hollywood before he had a breakout blockbuster role in Christopher Nolan's "Inception" and his career took off. It wasn't his first high-profile role in a science fiction film; that would be "Star Trek: Nemesis," where a young Hardy played the villain Shinzon, a clone of legendary Starfleet captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). However, "Nemesis" is the film that effectively killed any further movies featuring the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" cast, until they recently reemerged in the third season of "Star Trek: Picard." And before he ever went sci-fi or flew a Spitfire in "Dunkirk," for his first TV and film roles respectively, Hardy appeared back-to-back in the HBO World War II miniseries "Band of Brothers" and the Ridley Scott war movie "Black Hawk Down."

Pretty much from the moment the sci-fi action classic Predator was released in 1987, fans were wondering what it would be like if the alien hunter from that film were to clash with the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Dark Horse Comics dove into the concept right away, publishing their first Aliens vs. Predator story in 1989. It took a lot longer for the battle to reach the big screen, though. Fifteen years longer, in fact. And with the latest episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, we’re looking into the making of 2004’s Avp: Alien vs. Predator (watch it Here). Like many a horror franchise, Predator has seen its share of ups and downs over the years. Some entries in the series are considered classics, and others are notorious pieces of trash. A few of them could even be deigned unwatchable.

The crew of the Revenge are setting sail once again. Comedy series “Our Flag Means Death” has been renewed for Season 2, HBO Max has announced. The news comes almost three months after the show’s first season finished airing this March.
Created by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” stars Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as real-life pirates Stede Bonnet and Ed Teach, better known as Blackbeard. The series follows Bonnet, an English aristocrat, as he abandons his family in an attempt to find himself as a pirate, with his mild-mannered and gentlemanly demeanor proving to be a poor match to a life of crime. Over the course of Season 1, he teams up with Ed and they unexpectedly fall in love, only for the season to end with the two separated and a heartbroken Ed embracing his dark Blackbeard persona.
The first season of “Our Flag Means Death” received generally positive reviews from critics.

After what felt like centuries of waiting (it was just a couple of months), HBO Max has finally renewed “Our Flag Means Death,” the seafaring pirate comedy that quietly became one of the most-watched and talked about shows of 2022. The show, from creator-showrunner David Jenkins, executive producer and star Taika Waititi and executive producer Garrett Basch, will return to HBO Max for a second season.
Loosely based on the real-life story of Stede Bonnet (played in the show by Taika’s regular collaborator Rhys Darby), the so-called “gentleman pirate,” who left his life of luxury to sail the seas (with civility). Along his adventure he crosses paths with the fearsome Captain Blackbeard (played by Waititi). While initially their interactions are hostile, and the early “Our Flag Means Death” episodes certainly play up the suspense of their potential collision, the two pirates gain much from one another, eventually forming a close-knit...

“Who doesn’t want to be a pirate?”
Rhys Darby certainly does, but not just any pirate. In the new HBO Max series Our Flag Means Death, the comedian immediately recognizable from Jumanji: The Next Level, What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords, and so many more roles, assumes the mantle of real-life “gentleman pirate” Stede Bonnet.
Premiering March 3 with three episodes, Our Flag Means Death was created by David Jenkins (People of Earth), and co-created by Taika Waititi, who also co-stars as the dread pirate Blackbeard. More Muppets Treasure Island than Black Sails, the 10-episode first season is about a pirate out of his depth — something Darby says is like some of his other characters, such as Murray from Conchords.
And although the New Zealand actor says he isn’t fancy like the 18th-Century Stede was, he does think there is a relatability to the gentleman pirate.
