Ocean’s 12 is a sequel to 2001’s Ocean’s 11, a reboot of the 1960 film of the same name. The film continues the story of George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s Danny Ocean and Robert “Rusty” Ryan as they undertake a new heist plan. However, the film almost included two iconic actors whose characters would have had major ramifications for the duo.

According to the reboot’s writer, Ted Griffin, actors Robert Redford and Paul Newman were considered for roles in the sequels. However, what is more surprising than their inclusion is why the idea did not come to fruition. Here is everything you need to know about Robert Redford and Paul Newman’s proposed roles in Ocean’s 12.

Andrew Garfield has turned himself into quite the actor over the last decade or so. Not only does he star in acclaimed films such as "Tick, Tick...Boom!" or the recently released "We Live in Time" for A24, but he's also capable of delivering the goods in blockbusters as well. He was a major reason why 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" became one of the biggest movies ever. But before he became an A-list actor capable of walking comfortably in both of these worlds, he starred in an oft-forgotten drama alongside Tom Cruise.
The movie was 2007's "Lions for Lambs," directed by cinematic legend Robert Redford, who also stars in the film. Not only that, but Meryl Streep, one of the greatest actors of all time, was in the film as well, as was future big star Michael Peña. In hindsight,...

Eve Babitz, the “dowager groupie” who wrote Slow Days, Fast Company and was known for her relationships with the likes of The Doors’ frontman Jim Morrison and Steve Martin, and Joan Didion, the author of Play It As It Lays and The White Album, who wrote Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson’s A Star Is Born, are unquestionably two of Los Angeles’ most-revered writers.
A new book – Didion & Babitz written by Lili Anolik – highlights the relationship between the pair, helped by the author unearthing scores of previously unseen letters.
The book, which published today by Simon & Schuster’s Scribner, also explores their contrasting relationship with Hollywood (the town) and Hollywood (the industry).
Didion wrote a slew of screenplays with her husband, John Gregory Dunne, including the aforementioned A Star Is Born, 1971’s The Panic In Needle Park, which starred Al Pacino, 1981’s True Confessions, which starred Robert De Niro and Robert Duvall,...

It can be universally agreed upon that Taylor Sheridan has forever altered the way the audience perceives Westerns in the modern film and television industry. He not only brought back a near-extinct genre to life but gave it such momentum that Westerns are gaining a foothold as one of the most-watched genres by the modern audience.

Yellowstone, in that respect, began a revolution. It was not simply the cowboys and the vast, endless expanse of the ranches that made life seem so attractive. Sheridan’s creation gave the viewers a feast for the senses. With family drama and politics wrapped in murder and mayhem, Yellowstone ushered in a new era of Westerns that erased the line separating greatness and corruption.

Sundance, the flagship festival in the U.S. for indie filmmakers, is considering moving from the mountains to the Midwest.
The festival founded by Robert Redford is facing a fork in the road as it considers leaving its snow-capped home of Park City, Utah in 2027 — and could end up in Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, Ohio or Boulder, Colorado.
The Rocky Mountains have served as a backdrop for the festival for decades and become synonymous with Sundance itself. And the festival may stay right where it is.
But Sundance, which has been running for 40 years each January, is confronting two stark realities that have led the Sundance Institute to explore other options. The festival has struggled to find funding in recent years, operating at a loss in two of the last three. In fiscal year 2023, which ends in August, the Institute reported losses of $6.2 million on revenues of $45.6 million against costs of nearly $52 million.

Commentator cum media personality Megyn Kelly has really built herself a commendably prominent brand over the years, becoming one of the hottest topics in the industry. But while she gains a spot in the limelight every now and then, she also finds herself in the hot seat, especially for all the political and unprecedentedly controversial topics she has found herself engaging in.

One of these very topics is the humiliating remarks Kelly made on the Oscar-winning actress Jane Fonda. This happened back in time when the media personality found herself questioning the actress on her plastic surgeries out of the blue – a cringeworthy turn of events, yes, but one that would unarguably forever hold a place in TV’s Hall of Shame nonetheless.

Wow, November got here fast. This year’s election cycle seemed shorter than usual. The presidential candidates were all but a foregone conclusion, until they weren’t. Now with election season finally here, things continue to be tense. Are smooth transitions between administrations a thing of the past, or has the fever from last cycle broken?
Despite the strange reality we live in now, politics have always been fertile ground for nerve-fraying anxiety. Whether that’s the paranoia of being under the all-seeing eye of the Nsa today, the tragedy of the assassinations in the 60s, or the scandals of the 70s, politics have never been for the faint of heart. Struggles for power rarely are.

As the US prepares to vote for a new president, a look back at the difficulties Hollywood election films have faced
The US presidential election takes up an enormous amount of space in the news cycle; even a reset and abbreviated race, like the one between the late-breaking candidate Kamala Harris and the eternal rerun Donald Trump, starts to feel downright eternal in the final sprint. It’s an event that dominates the media for the better part of every fourth year in the calendar (and a not-inconsiderable part of the other three), not without good reason: these races have been enormously consequential, as are many of the down-ballot races squeezed out of as much attention. Yet this urgency is not something often well-captured in movies about US elections, which frequently fall somewhere between flop-sweaty dramatic earnestness or toothless comedic mildness.
Maybe contemporary films can’t compete with the breathlessness...

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
"Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 5, episode 3, "The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel," sees Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid) assigned to a covert, potentially dangerous spy mission. He is to join Commander Ransom (Jerry O'Connell) and Lieutenant Commander Billups (Paul Scheer) on a mission to the Cosmic Duchess, an ultra-swanky, high-end resort-like cruise ship, floating gently through deep space. His assignment is to penetrate deep into the hotel to retrieve Admiral Milius (Toby Huss), a Starfleet officer who has gone Awol thanks to "a touch of vacation madness." The writers of "Lower Decks" missed an opportunity in not saying that he had been infected with Paradise Syndrome.
The Cosmic Duchess, however, is such a massive ship that it incorporates artificial recreations of every possible vacation-ready biome. There's a tropical beach biome, a skiing resort biome, and a water park biome.

Imagine Mad Men without Jon Hamm’s brooding Don Draper—impossible, right? Well, it nearly happened. And oddly enough, his devastatingly good looks were the problem. Studio execs fretted that Hamm might be too handsome for viewers to buy him as the complex, troubled ad man, fearing his charm could overshadow the gritty 1960s narrative.

As if that weren’t enough, The Sopranos icon James Gandolfini almost sealed the show’s fate before it aired, as his powerhouse performance left everyone questioning if another morally gray lead could ever work. The combo of Hamm’s looks and Gandolfini’s shadow nearly killed the series, but luckily, Mad Men managed to break through—proving that charm, danger, and a killer suit could redefine TV drama.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe certainly doesn't shy away from star-power. It's the biggest movie franchise in the world, so why would it? After all, it enhanced the careers of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo, while launching the careers of Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth.
It's also featured established cinematic titans like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Michael Keaton, and Ben Kingsley, and more. In recent years, Angelina Jolie and Christian Bale have even joined the fray, showcasing that the franchise is still capable of drawing big names even with the conclusion of its record-breaking Infinity Saga. If you need more proof of that, look no further than next year's Captain America: Brave New World, which will see Harrison Ford make his MCU debut, stepping into the role of President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross after the death of the late, great William Hurt.

In 1997, when Matt Damon and Ben Affleck wrote and starred in Gus Van Sant's "Good Will Hunting," it immediately propelled the pair onto the ineffable Hollywood A-list. Both of them had been acting for several years and had participated in a few notable studio pictures, but it was "Good Will Hunting" that pushed the two handsome young blokes onto the top of the heap. Their film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and it won Oscars for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (for Robin Williams). Ever since, both Affleck and Damon have remained above-the-title power players, appearing in a long list of both big-budget hits and ambitious indies.
Although, that's not to say that they both haven't had their share of stinkers. Affleck has starred in several notorious films in his career, including widely loathed films like "Gigli" and "Phantoms." Although Affleck was the bomb in "Phantoms,...

Some audiences might have first spotted Matt Damon during a notable dinner scene in Donald Petrie's hit 1988 drama "Mystic Pizza." Thereafter, Damon turned up as an extra in "Field of Dreams" and as one of the many handsome students in the 1992 boarding school thriller "School Ties," both of them with his longtime friend and collaborator Ben Affleck. Damon went on to score some considerable screen time in Edward Zwick's "Courage Under Fire" before delivering his first lead performance in 1997 in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rainmaker." That same year, Damon and Affleck became acclaimed Academy darlings for writing and starring in Gus Van Sant's "Good Will Hunting." The pair won Oscars for their screenplay and have both been major Hollywood players since.

Big screen Westerns might've been falling out of favor at the U.S. box office in 1965 (thus paving the way for Spaghetti Westerns to become a surprise sensation when Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy rode into movie theaters throughout the course of 1967), but television Westerns were still swaggering their way to strong ratings thanks to "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and the hybrid Western/spy/sci-fi series "The Wild Wild West." And with "Rawhide" finally drawing to a close that year (thereby allowing its star Clint Eastwood to become a modern Western star), there was suddenly room for a new, sudsy, ranch-bound saga about scheming landowners and warring heirs.
"The Big Valley" whooped it up for a solid four-season run, running out of steam in 1969 at around the same moment the television Westerns began going the way of classical big screen oaters. Until then, viewers were hooked on the doings at the Barkley Ranch,...

Put yourself into a 1987 state of mind, and imagine you're using the computer from "Weird Science" to create the perfect young actor. You want it all: A hunk with legitimate performing chops who can do finely composed drama as easily as he does zany comedy. He can be the world's sexiest man and its biggest blithering idiot. He's also got an athletic frame onto which you can pack layers of muscle. Can he sing and dance? Probably, but we're not trying to take roles away from our underserved musical theater stars, so let's not get greedy. All the other stuff you want a star to do, however, he does it.
So feed your snipped-from-magazine clippings of Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Cary Grant, Gary Cooper and the like into the computer, and who do you come up with? Lorenzo Lamas?? You've got yourself a virus,...

“Tulsa King” faces the same challenge confronting every location-driven TV show: in some way, it must make its setting feel interesting enough to rope in viewers unfamiliar with the place and its culture. Its initial premise does most of the work immediately: New York gangster Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he decides to build a new mob from scratch. Viewers can instantly relate to Manfredi’s fish-out-of-water circumstances — many of them have no concept of Tulsa, making it feel vaguely foreign despite its geographic proximity to American audiences.
“Tulsa King” immerses us in part by trading generic establishing shots of the city’s sparse skyline for gliding glances at the iconic Mayo Hotel and street-level peeks up at Tulsa’s few skyscrapers. Equally crucial to the show’s believability, though, is the way the characters dress. Costume designer Susan McCabe recognizes that, for many viewers,...

Why Did ‘The Apprentice’ Bomb? Maybe Because the Most Chilling Thing About Donald Trump Is Offscreen
In May, after I saw and reviewed the how-Donald-Trump-learned-to-be-Donald-Trump biopic “The Apprentice” at the Cannes Film Festival, I had dinner with a group of very sharp-minded film folks, and we all agreed that the movie, if treated with the right marketing savvy, had the potential to make a splash. A few days later, I woke up from that delusion and realized that it had been a case of festival fever.
It struck me that since we had been living — for eight years — in a state of perpetual Donald Trump overkill, a drama about Trump’s salad days, when he learned how to lie, cheat and steal from the shifty-eyed Roy Cohn, wasn’t a movie that was bound to set the world on fire. Who was the audience for it? Probably anti-Trump Democrats, who don’t, at this point, need a big-screen drama to confirm what they already know.

Few horror movies are as fantastic or as retroactively controversial as "Rosemary's Baby." Decades after its release, what are we to make of a movie about a woman's bodily agency that was made by a man –- Roman Polanski –- who was later convicted of statutory rape? It's just one of several tricky questions that's elicited by any thorough look back at the film; in addition to Polanski's life story, both of the movie's surviving cast members (see below) have been embroiled in their own complex and traumatic situations in the years since the film debuted in 1968.
It's a tricky legacy for a phenomenal movie that works on the strengths of all involved, including a powerful young Mia Farrow, who turns Polanski's already-sharp take on Ira Levin's great book into something unforgettable. Most of the other actors who made the film a classic are gone now, including John Cassavettes...

Hollywood legend Al Pacino has shared the difficulties he faced securing and keeping the role of Michael Corleone in the classic 1972 film “The Godfather.” In his recently released memoir “Sonny Boy,” Pacino describes the hurdles he overcame and unconventional methods used to portray the iconic character.
Despite how synonymous Pacino became with launching his career as Michael Corleone, his casting was uncertain. The studio originally preferred established stars like Jack Nicholson, Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, or Ryan O’Neal. Pacino admits reluctance to screen test and a fear of flying almost cost him the chance. It took convincing from his manager and Dutch courage from whiskey to get Pacino to audition in California. “I did not want to go to California,” Pacino said.
Not long into filming, doubts emerged again from the studio about Pacino fitting the part. According to Pacino, it was director Francis Ford Coppola’s decision to film...

Although Al Pacino will always be synonymous with his breakthrough performance in The Godfather (1972), Francis Ford Coppola‘s acclaimed mafia drama nearly replaced him.
In his new memoir Sonny Boy, which is now available, the Academy Award winner recalled Paramount “questioning whether I was the right actor” to play Michael Corleone in the feature adaptation of Mario Puzo’s book and how he was ultimately able to prove himself.
“Paramount didn’t want me to play Michael Corleone,” he wrote in an excerpt shared by The Guardian. “They wanted Jack Nicholson. They wanted Robert Redford. They wanted Warren Beatty or Ryan O’Neal. In the book, Puzo had Michael calling himself ‘the sissy of the Corleone family.’ He was supposed to be small, dark-haired, handsome in a delicate way, no visible threat to anybody. That didn’t sound like the guys that the studio wanted. But that didn’t mean it had to be me.

Taylor Sheridan's and John Linson's "Yellowstone" premiered on Paramount+ in 2018 and has proven to be one of the network's biggest hits. To day, the show has run 47 episodes over five seasons and spawned the spinoffs "1883" and "1923." Starring Kevin Costner, "Yellowstone" takes place on the Dutton family ranch in modern-day Montana. The ranch borders Yellowstone National Park, hence the name, while the actual series follows the soap-opera-like drama of the Duttons as well as characters on the neighboring Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Such a reservation is fictional, but the series is accurate in depicting Crow people living there.
Sheridan, who grew up on ranches, pitched "Yellowstone" as a "Godfather"-like family epic, complete with crime and corruption. The characters all resort to increasingly dark actions to make the ranch successful. Because "Yellowstone" was such a hit, Sheridan was able to purchase 270,000 acres (!) of Texas land, and one would...

After nearly two decades, recollections may indeed vary. Consider this: When filmmaker John Crowley cast rising star Andrew Garfield in his 2007 drama “Boy A,” Garfield almost didn’t take the part. Or, wait, did he?
“We offered you the part,” Crowley said during a recent interview with IndieWire and his now two-time star. “And you said yes, and you then said no.” Garfield looked shocked. “Did I say no?” the actor asked, eyes pinging between Zoom windows.
Either way: Garfield did take the part in the heartbreaking British drama, and now, 17 years later, he and Crowley have reunited for “We Live in Time,” a tear-soaked drama of a different kind. Based on Nick Payne’s screenplay, the nonlinear love story follows the buttoned-up Tobias (Garfield) and the spunky Almut (Florence Pugh) over the course of a decade-long relationship that is, suffice it to say, filled with both high highs and extremely low lows.

Edward Norton still has the honor of starring in the only solo Hulk movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he is also one of the few actors to have their role replaced in the series that spans over 30 movies and 10 canonical shows. Ruffalo began his MCU journey a dozen years ago in the first Avengers blockbuster; where he “incredibly” captured the duality of Banner/Hulk better than any prior performer. Ruffalo managed to pull off the feat in a team-up event, whereas Norton, and a pre-mcu Eric Bana, had an entire feature dedicated to the hero.
Ruffalo immediately connected with audiences more than any of his predecessors, which raised the bar for how compelling this hero could be in live-action, while also rounding out the Avengers ensemble wonderfully. He gave the Marvel Cinematic Universe a big green hand to help lift the franchise to stratospheric heights. Without individual projects to focus on,...

Marvel Studios is no stranger to A-list stars. The franchise reenergised Robert Downey Jr.'s career and he has become one of the biggest names in Hollywood history since. It has also launched the careers of A-list stars like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. But the Kevin Feige-led company has also worked with veteran A-listers, including Samuel L. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow and evolve, more and more stars are continuing to join it. Concerns about Warren Beatty’s health are nothing new.
After all, the 87-year-old has been a household name since the ’60s, and these days, he rarely appears in public. So it stands to reason that there would be occasional speculation about his overall condition.
The latest round of fears about the screen legend’s well-being began back in March when he was conspicuously absent from daughter Ella’s Broadway debut.

Dark Winds is a phycological crime thriller from AMC (the first two seasons are now available to watch on Netflix), based on novels written by the late Tony Hillerman. These novels take place on the Navajo reservation in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, and the show features Indigenous crew members, writers, actors, and directors.
The two biggest names involved on the show, however, are a couple of well-known Hollywood icons: actor and director Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin, the author behind the Song of Ice and Fire series. While both have been around the entertainment industry for a very long time, they usually are associated with completely different types of projects.
How did George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford get involved in Dark Winds?
Martin moved to New Mexico in the late 1970s and eventually met Hillerman. According to James Hibberd at The Hollywood Reporter, the two authors became good friends.

Demi Moore underwent an intense physical regimen to lose weight for her role in the 1993 film “Indecent Proposal.” In a recent CBS interview, the actress opened up about the demanding schedule she maintained while filming the erotic thriller.
Moore had just given birth to her daughter Scout before production began. To lose weight quickly, she decided to bicycle the long distance between her Malibu home and the Paramount Pictures studio in Hollywood every day. This meant riding approximately 60 miles roundtrip under demanding conditions.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself,” Moore recalled. “I’ve been told in the past to lose weight too, which was really embarrassing and hurtful. But I took it out on myself for this role.”
Each day she woke up early with a trainer using headlamps in the dark. After biking to set, she worked through 12-hour filming days. Moore would then make the exhausting cycle ride back home.

Demi Moore revealed in an interview on CBS’ “Sunday Morning” that she biked around 60 miles each day during the filming of her 1993 erotic thriller “Indecent Proposal” in order to lose weight for the shoot after giving birth to her daughter Scout Willis. The movie, directed by Adrian Lyne and co-starring Robert Redford, shot in 1992. Scout was born the year prior.

You can't have "Jaws" without Quint, a modern Captain Ahab if he'd been hunting a great white shark rather than a white whale. It's difficult to picture anyone but Robert Shaw (in one of his last roles before his premature death in 1978) in the part, but the actor actually wasn't who director Steven Spielberg first had in mind.
In "Spielberg: The First Ten Years" by Laurent Bouzereau, Spielberg claimed his first choice for Quint was Lee Marvin. He wanted a big star and Marvin was famous for playing sinister tough guys. In "Spielberg: The First Ten Years" by Laurent Bouzereau, Spielberg claimed his first choice for Quint was Lee Marvin. He wanted a big star and Marvin was famous for playing sinister tough guys. In a highly unusual competition that’s been taking place over the last year, all pegged to the future location of the Sundance Film Festival, the most unusual moment had to be the unveiling, this week, of the three finalists that are vying to be the new seat of Sundance. They are: Boulder, Cincinnati, and Salt Lake City/Park City. That last option was a real eyebrow-raiser, since it’s where the Sundance Film Festival takes place right now. You were led to wonder: Has this entire contest been a giant subterfuge, a way for Sundance to simply secure a new deal, or maybe a better deal, with its original home base?
Actually, it’s not that simple. If Salt Lake City/Park City does turn out to be the winner, notice the order in which those two cities are listed. Park City has hosted the Sundance Film Festival since...

After months of proposals and site visits, Sundance has whittled the swath of contenders for a potential new home for the festival down to three.
Among the trio, there is a bit of the old, a bit of the new, and a bit of Wtf?
To that end, with a possible relocation set for 2027, the united Utah bid of Salt Lake City/Park City has made the cut, along with Boulder, Colorado, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
Coming out of a process that started in April when organizers said that the festival was open to proposals to move, the winner will be unveiled early next year around the time of the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in Park City. The Robert Redford founded Sff will remain its home of nearly four decades for the 2026 shindig before pulling up stakes – if Boulder or Cincinnati grab the indie film golden ring.

They say, “You can’t judge a book by its cover”, but if you’re watching Yellowstone, it’s hard not to see the plot’s hidden pages—especially those lifted straight from The Godfather. Taylor Sheridan’s hit TV series has long sported its influences like a cowboy wearing spurs, and now, even the most casual viewers are spotting the family feud parallels with Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary mafia saga.

And for those scratching their heads, here’s a nugget of trivia: Sheridan’s original pitch for Yellowstone as ‘The Godfather in Montana’ didn’t exactly knock the socks off HBO executives. But against all odds, the show has transformed skeptics into devoted fans. And just when you thought the drama was at its peak, Sheridan’s gearing up to bring us the fifth and final season by this year’s end.

Since breaking through (at least to me) as the loose cannon nutso friend Shawn Eckardt in I, Tonya, Paul Walter Hauser has had a series of celebrated roles playing guys on the outskirts, including the bumbling Horace in Cruella, “Stingray” in Cobra Kai, the title character of the accused Atlanta Olympics bomber in Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell, hopeless criminal Booch in the current The Instigators, and his Emmy-winning role as creepy killer Larry Hall in Black Bird.
Well, chalk up another one as Hauser knocks it out of the park on the weirdo scale as legendary game show contestant Michael Larson in The Luckiest Man in America, which just had its world premiere as one of the 2024 Toronto Film Festival’s opening-night attractions. Larson became infamous in 1984 as a nerdy unemployed guy with three ex-wives, who travels across country in his beat-up ice cream truck to audition for the...
