Jonathan Bailey will play the role of Fiyero Tigelaar in the two-part musical-to-film adaptation, Wicked. Bailey’s Fiyero is a Winkie prince who grew up with Elphaba and Galinda and goes on to become a loyal love interest to the former. The Bridgerton actor’s Shakespearean experience and dance lessons contributed heavily to his role.

It appears that Bailey has a small role in the Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-led film. When compared to his co-stars, Bailey reportedly received a low remuneration, however, it is still a great number considering the length of his role. According to the source material, Bailey’s character will probably have a heartbreaking story in the film.

London was transported to Oz Monday night for the European premiere of Jon M. Chu’s highly-anticipated Wicked (part one).
The director made his first premiere of the film’s press run (thanks to a newborn baby, he missed its L.A. debut) at the city’s Royal Festival Hall, alongside his Glinda and Elphaba, who braved the torrential U.K. rain.
An umbrella-ed duo of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo — donning chiffon yellow and waist-hugging, black frocks, respectively — succeeded Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Marissa Bode, Bronwyn James and Jeff Goldblum on the fan-flanked green carpet.
“It’s been a long journey to get here,” producer Marc Platt, who has overseen Broadway’s historic run of the musical, said. “Wicked started 20-some years ago. I set out to make it as a film first. But then one of my favorite composers who inspired me as a...

According to late “The Wizard of Oz” icon Judy Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft, “Wicked” is defying filmmaking gravity.
Luft, who is the daughter of Garland and Sidney Luft and half-sister of Liza Minnelli, took to social media to praise the musical prequel adaptation. Luft especially applauded director Jon M. Chu and lead stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for honoring the legacy of 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz.”
“Wicked” is based on the 2003 Broadway musical. The musical takes place before Dorothy, the character whom Garland played in “The Wizard of Oz,” landed in the fantasyland of the title. “Wicked” premieres in theaters November 22 from Universal.
“This movie is astounding! It’s epic, brilliant, touching, and honest,” Luft wrote of the feature. “It is breathtaking to look at … the sets, costumes, makeup, performances, choreography, and the entire scope of the movie, is everything I wanted it to be.”

Here at JoBlo Horror Originals we talk a lot about gateway horror films. Depending on the generation you belong to, that can be a few different things. Kids of the 70s will always have Jaws as an introduction to horror and that movie is still a great way to introduce newer generations to the genre after almost 50 years. Two of my favorites from the 80’s, and two films that both my sons have seen, are The Gate and The Monster Squad. Again, both great and both still hold up as not only fun horror flicks but great ways to ease in the younger crowd. As a kid born in 1985, I am much more a child of the 90s so even if you hadn’t read the title of the video you clicked, you could probably guess that I saw Jurassic Park in theaters, it scared and enthralled me and made me want more.

Judy Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft has joined the chorus of moviegoers raving about “Wicked” ahead of the musical’s theatrical release. Luft’s mother, of course, is an icon of cinema having played Dorothy Gale in 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz.” “Wicked” serves as a musical prequel to that story, with some of the events of “The Wizard of Oz” factoring into its second act. Luft is the daughter of Garland and Sidney Luft, which also makes her the half-sister of Liza Minnelli.

It’s epic, brilliant, touching and honest,” Luft wrote on Instagram. “It is breathtaking to look at … the sets, costumes, makeup, performances, choreography and the entire scope of the movie, is everything I wanted it to be. Will Smith Explained How His Race Almost Kept Him From Being Cast In A Significant Film. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
It’s wild to think about Independence Day without Will Smith as Captain Steven Hiller, right? But that almost happened. Back in ’96, when the movie was gearing up, director Roland Emmerich and writer Dean Devlin hit a massive roadblock with 20th Century Fox. The studio wasn’t keen on Smith for the role because they didn’t think he’d click with international audiences. They said, “You cast a Black guy in this part, you’re going to kill foreign [box office].” Like, really? That was the mountain they had to climb.
Emmerich and Devlin didn’t back down, though. According to Devlin, it was “a big war.” The studio thought Smith was “unproven,” and they were worried that his star power wouldn’t travel well overseas. But Emmerich wasn’t having it.

DreamWorks Animation often goes toe-to-toe with Walt Disney Studios to produce spectacular films. The former holds an appeal for producing more mature and out-of-the-box characters along with political and pop-cultural jokes in their storylines.
The Prince of Egypt is considered to be a classic, featuring a star cast of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Helen Mirren, and more. Based on the Book of Exodus, the story closely follows the journey of the heroic messiah Moses as he learns of his ultimate destiny. However, most fans don’t know that Steven Spielberg had a huge role in the early draft of the plot, though he went uncredited.

Jon M. Chu’s Wicked Part One is set to defy gravity when it comes to theaters just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. The first part of the musical film adaptation will compete against Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, which arrives in theaters on the same date for a combination much like the summer of 2023’s Barbenheimer.
Those hoping to stream Wicked Part One versus seeing it in the theater may have to wait a bit before the film arrives on streaming services as it will have an exclusive theatrical run at the end of this year.
For more details on where to stream Wicked Part One, read below.
When does Wicked Part One come out in theaters?
The first half of the duology hits theaters on Friday, Nov. 22 alongside Gladiator II for the phenomenon some are calling Glicked. The film was originally slated to go up against Moana 2 a week later.

Cynthia Erivo can relate to “Elvis” actor Austin Butler and “Armand” actress Renate Reinsve: It turns out throwing yourself fully into a performance could leave you bed-ridden.
Erivo said during the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” that even just auditioning for musical adaptation “Wicked” left her ill. The audition was three hours long, and Tony winner Erivo had to recoup after it.
“Oh, I was very ill by the end of it,” Erivo said. “I was in bed for the next week, for like four days, with 104 fever.”
Erivo plays Elphaba (later known as the Wicked Witch of the West) alongside Ariana Grande’s Glinda. The ensemble film co-stars Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Peter Dinklage, Ethan Slater, and Bowen Yang, who also said that the production left him ailing.

We're in the midst of a bit of a down period for theaters. "Venon: The Last Dance" has ruled the past few weekends, with smaller offerings like "Heretic" and "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" doing what they can to fill the void. Dwayne Johnson's "Red One" is also coming to get the Christmas season box office started, even if it won't light the charts on fire. But this is truly a calm before the storm moment if ever there were such a thing, as a trio of big movies are just around the corner to help turn things around. However, the biggest of the bunch may not be Disney's big animated sequel "Moana 2" or Ridley Scott's historical epic "Gladiator II." Rather, "Wicked" is positioned to become not just one of the biggest movies of the winter season, but also maybe one of the biggest movies of 2024 overall.

Jeff Goldblum’s film career started in a particularly auspicious manner since his first four films were all highly regarded works of the early 1970s: “Death Wish”, “California Split”, “Nashville” and “Next Stop, Greenwich Village.” He continued to work in film and television for the next four decades and even returned to Broadway a few times, most notably in the highly regarded Martin McDonough play “The Pillowman.”
Along the way Goldblum has picked up a number of award nominations including an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short Film for “Little Surprises.” He received an Emmy nomination for a guest appearance on “Will and Grace” in 2005. He also was a nominee for Best Actor for two of the most prestigious critics awards groups for his work in “The Fly.” Both the New York Film’s Critics and the National Society of Film Critics named him as one of the top three actors of the year.

Netflix is often accused of canceling popular shows before their time. One of the biggest complaints is that the streaming service often ends a show after three seasons, even if there is more story to tell. However, one recent show that premiered in 2024 has already been canceled after just one season. This is even despite it having a major star in the lead role.
Here is what show was canceled and what you need to know.
Netflix Cancels Fan-Favorite Series
While streaming services have been great in many aspects, especially in terms of creative freedom, sometimes, these services can be a little too eager to cancel shows before they truly have the chance to be fleshed out. This is exactly what happened recently with a show that people got hooked on.

Fallon also convinced Erivo to offer a preview of her rendition of “Defying Gravity,” the Broadway musical’s most memorable song. The actress admitted that she ended up doing the song “slightly different” than how the number was written.

Jonathan Bailey made a cameo on Netflix’s Heartstopper Season 3 and says people over a certain age should be forced to watch the series.
In a new interview, Bailey opened up about how his guest appearance came to be and what the series means to him.
“I sort of wedged myself into that part. I was so moved by the series and also the graphic novel,” Bailey told Vanity Fair.
Bailey played Jack Maddox, a classical historian Joe Locke’s Charlie admires.
The actor said “Heartstopper seems to allow people to feel catharsis and to feel a sort of melancholic sort of nostalgia for what could have been.”
Bailey noted that he loved the cast and added, “I think they’re brilliant. I remember seeing all of them speak to their own experiences and being like, My God, they’re so erudite and grounded and thoughtful and kind and compassionate in their answers.

That was the kind of 360-degree realism director Jon M. Chu was going for in the long-anticipated adaptation of the musical “Wicked.” Chu wanted Oz to be a physical place, not just CGI. So that meant nine million flowers in the field (a number repeated a few times during the chat!) as well as big set pieces for the actors to ground themselves in.

In the summer of 2023, we had “Barbenheimer,” and the holiday season of 2024 will have “Glicked” as Gladiator II star Paul Mescal has dubbed the release date of November 22, on which the Jon M. Chu musical adaptation and the Ridley Scott sequel will debut in theaters together.
Several films will arrive before and in the wake of the latest box office showdown including Disney’s Moana 2, which almost went up against Wicked before the first part of the film duology shifted earlier to the same Friday as Gladiator II.

‘Wicked’ is an upcoming musical fantasy film directed by Jon M. Chu. It’s the first part of a two-movie adaptation of the popular ‘Wicked’ musical, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire.
The movie stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular girl who transforms into the Good Witch.
Michelle Yeoh plays Madame Morrible, the head of Shiz University, where the characters study, and Jeff Goldblum stars as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a regular man from Earth who accidentally became Oz’s ruler. Jonathan Bailey plays Fiyero, a charming prince who crosses paths with both Elphaba and Glinda at school.
The movie releases on November 22 and the toys and other related merchandise is already in stores for the upcoming Holiday season as the movie is expected to be a large hit among the younger (and older) audiences.

As Hollywood approaches the end of 2024, two major blockbusters remain on the release calendar: Jon M. Chu’s “Wicked” and Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II.” The highly anticipated films have the potential to add a final burst of much-needed life to the 2024 box office or shake up an Oscar race that will begin to solidify after the holidays. Both films are releasing on November 22, which has turned into a box office event that many movie lovers have dubbed “Glicked.”
The rollout has echoes of the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon from 2023, when both Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” were released on the same date. What began as a series of silly memes about two wildly different films coming out at once soon turned into one of the most positive box office developments in recent memory, with many viewers making a point to see both films. Universal is revealing “Wicked” to Academy voters and media as the film adaptation of the global musical juggernaut finally heads for screens November 22. On Sunday afternoon, the Academy screening at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre on Wilshire drew some 900 attendees, the best showing since last year’s “Oppenheimer,” and drew a rousing standing ovation as the credits rolled.
On Friday night, when the DGA hosted a screening and Q&a for SAG and Academy members as well as press, attendees were also ebullient. (Sandwiched between the two was the film’s Hollywood premiere.)
With a hit show whetting appetites for the screen version, many fans turned up at these screenings. However, it will not be boosted by critics groups at year’s end. They will want to support other, less commercial prospects. When reviews come in and box office numbers climb, we’ll see where “Wicked” winds up in the Oscar race.

When it comes to the box office battle between Universal’s Wicked, in which Jeff Goldblum plays the Wizard, and Paramount’s Gladiator II, it will not be a survival of the fittest.
Deadline’s Natalie Sitek asked him at Saturday night’s Wicked LA premiere about the Glicked effect that’s expected to take place at the box office on Nov. 22 with Wicked expected to do $85M+ and Gladiator II north of $65M, and Goldblum emphasized, “”Nobody’s in competition — it’s an abundance mentality world with enough to go around.” Also, don’t forget, Disney’s Moana 2 is opening five days after Wicked with female moviegoers expected to do another go-round at cinemas over the Thanksgiving 5-day period.
“That’s part of the theme of our show!” he continued.
Duly note, that the actor of Annie Hall, The Fly, Transylvania 6-5000 and Jurassic Park said, “I want to see Gladiator II!

Jeff Goldblum is handing off the dinosaur-sized torch to “Wicked” co-star Jonathan Bailey.
Bailey is taking on the role of paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis in the latest “Jurassic Park” film, “Jurassic World Rebirth” – and nobody’s more excited to see it than Goldblum.
“The hope of the world resides, and I can think of no better baton receiver to carry on the ‘da da da da da,'” Goldblum tells Variety, singing the iconic “Jurassic Park” theme by John Williams. “It’s Jonathan Bailey! It’s like no other!”
Bailey shares that he and Goldblum chatted about the role for the first time while they were en route to CinemaCon earlier this year. “I had the invitation to join the ‘Jurassic’ world, to join the conga line led by Jeff,” Bailey said. “The original film was a seminal cinematic moment, purely because of Jeff, but also, I went with my family,...

Well, we're betting someone is getting fired for this.
Wicked, Jon M. Chu's long-awaited film version of the beloved musical, has released a ton of merchandise and toys from companies like The Noble Collection, Lego, and Mattel, but the latter has made a huge blunder on packaging for two dolls featuring the likenesses of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
On the back of boxes for Elphaba and Glinda dolls, there's a website URL for Wicked.com. The issue is, the movie's actual website is WickedMovie.com...and Wicked.com just so happens to be a pornographic website.
"Established in Canoga Park, California on March 1st, 1993, Wicked Pictures was formed with a firm commitment to producing quality parody porn movies, a decision the company has stayed true [to] since its beginning," reads the description on that site (the content there is Nsfw so visit at your own risk).

Mattel has pulled its Wicked dolls after packaging for the movie merchandise mistakenly listed a website to an adult porn site rather than to the Wicked movie website. The film, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, is adapted from the popular Broadway musical (and does not require being over 18, as it is firmly rated PG).
The toy company apologized on Sunday for the snafu.
“Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the U.S., which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.

The packaging for Mattel’s Wicked dolls mistakenly lists the URL of an adult entertainment site instead of the official domain for the film.
Wicked, the new theatrical adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, is set to open in theaters worldwide on November 22nd. However, merchandise for the film, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as the witches Glinda and Elphaba, is already on sale, and some fans have spotted a major error on the packaging for Mattel’s dolls for the film.
The back of the Mattel dolls’ packaging lists the website wicked.com. The issue? That domain belongs to an adult entertainment site, not the film’s official website, which is actually wickedmovie.com.
It doesn’t seem to be a one-off error either, as hundreds of Mattel boxes listed on eBay show the same error. However, other Wicked merch, such as a Lego set, does list the correct URL on its packaging.

Wicked director Jon M. Chu missed the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie — for a very good reason.
While Part 1 of his musical adaptation, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, was having its L.A. premiere, his newborn baby girl was making her own debut into the world.
Chu and his wife, Kristin Hodge, welcomed their daughter Saturday. He posted a video of the infant on his Instagram Stories, set to Wizard of Oz tune “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” along with the caption: “I can’t believe this happened while the movie is premiering. Magic is in the air. Happy Premiere Day!! Welcome to our world, you’re gonna do great. You have a lot of witches on your side.”
This marks the fifth child for the couple, who are also parents to Willow, 7; Jonathan Heights, 5; Ruby, 3; and Iggy, 20 months.

Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande had a difficult time flying away from their characters Elphaba and Glinda.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, the two leading women discussed how their on-screen friendship has bled into real life, becoming a cornerstone for them both. That meant wrapping the two-parter shoot was difficult to reckon with.
“I was devastated,” Erivo said when asked what it felt like to finish the Jon M. Chu-helmed production, which filmed its first and second installments back-to-back, interrupted by both stars’ separate Covid diagnoses and the actors’ strike.
Grande echoed, “The whole day was a nightmare. We cried every minute, every hour. We both were in a horrible state for a few days.”
Both actresses added that it was “really hard” to let the characters go: “I don’t think we ever truly, fully will. I think we both needed them...

When Wicked director Jon M. Chu called up Michelle Yeoh — after the two previously collaborated on 2018’s Crazy Rich Asians — for a major role in the musical adaptation, the star admits she had a few questions.

Jon M. Chu’s much-anticipated and star-studded musical epic Wicked saw its Los Angeles premiere Saturday, held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
In attendance were Part 1‘s main cast — in hues of iridescent pink and lush green — including powerhouse duo Ariana Grande (who portrays Glinda the Good Witch) and Cynthia Erivo (playing Elphaba), as well as Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum and Ethan Slater. Bowen Yang was not pictured in attendance, likely due to his commitments as a featured player on Saturday Night Live. However, one of the most notable absences was that of helmer Chu, who had a bit of a scheduling conflict as he awaited the birth of his fifth child.
Also gracing the red carpet were original Broadway cast members Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel, who originated Glinda and Elphaba’s roles onstage.

Created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer, one of FX's most popular comedy series was "The League," which ran for seven seasons from 2009 to 2015. The raucous sitcom follows a group of friends in Chicago who run a highly competitive fantasy football league every year, creating their own challenges, rewards, and penalties. Along the way, the ensemble endures their own hilarious highs and lows involving romance and family life in between planning their fantasy teams. Throughout the show's run, the group is joined by several memorable guest stars and recurring characters, including the occasional real-life football player getting in on the fun.
Led by a solid ensemble cast of talented comedians, "The League" introduced beloved, crass characters framed against the backdrop of fantasy sports. Since the show's ending in 2015, many of the cast members have gone on to continue their film and television careers, while others haven't reached the same level of success.

As Wicked makes the long-awaited leap from the stage to the screen, Ariana Grande is contemplating a return to her roots.
The 2x Grammy winner recently opened up about the “healing” experience of portraying Galinda Upland in director Jon M. Chu‘s adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical, which made her consider “reconnecting” with her love of theater.
“I’m gonna say something so scary. It’s gonna scare the absolute s— out of my fans and everyone, but I love them and they’ll deal, and we’ll always be here,” she said on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast.
“I’m always gonna make music. I’m always gonna go onstage, I’m always gonna do pop stuff, I pinky promise,” noted Grande. “But I don’t think doing it at the rate I’ve been doing it for the past 10 years is where I see the next 10 years.

In Wizard Of Oz spin-off Wicked, Cynthia Erivo plays ostracised outcast Elphaba. Being off-kilter, though, says the actor, has always been a badge of honour
There was no yellow brick road laid out for Cynthia Erivo to follow.
Instead, the British-Nigerian has found her own way, from a show-stealing solo in her south London primary’s nativity play (‘Silent Night’; not a dry eye in the house), to a multi-hyphenate, multi-award-winning career, spanning stage, screen and latterly, the recording studio. This month, 37-year-old Erivo stars as Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West, alongside Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, in the big-screen adaptation of Wicked, the Wizard Of Oz spin-off and hit Broadway musical. It’s a role she feels she’s “innately understood” even before being offered it, from experiencing the musical, and there have been plenty more sing-along adventures en route to this dream-come-true.

The pop star is making a very personal statement with her planned movie debut in “Wicked” by using her full name, Ariana Grande-Butera, in the credits. It’s not just a simple choice to change her name; it’s also a link to her childhood dreams.
Grande will play Glinda the Good Witch in the two-part movie version of the popular Broadway show, which Jon M. Chu will direct. The movie looks at how the famous “Wizard of Oz” characters got their start, with a focus on Glinda and Elphaba’s complicated friendship.
“I feel like I came home to myself in many ways,” Grande told The Streaming Service. She said her 10-year-old self saw “Wicked” under Grande-Butera. Her choice of credit card is a respect to that important time in her life.
Grande had to deal with doubts about her hiring at first. “It has to be earned,” she said in a radio interview,...

Ariana Grande stars in the film adaptation of Wicked as Glinda the Good Witch.
When audiences see the movie in theaters, they will notice that the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer uses her full name, Ariana Grande-Butera, in the film’s credits.
In a new interview, Grande shares why she changed her name for the film.
“I just feel like this experience was such a homecoming for me,” Grande said in an interview with The Streaming Service. “I feel like I came home to myself in a lot of ways, through what I learned from Glinda, from Elphaba. That was my name when I went to see the show when I was 10-years-old, and it felt like a really lovely way of honoring that. It felt really full circle, and it just felt like something I wanted to do.”
Wicked will be released on November 22 in the U.S.
