The Worst Movie Sequels/Prequels Ever
This is my list of what I feel to be the worst movie sequels or prequels of all-time. If a movie that is generally known as a "bad sequel" doesn't appear here, it doesn't mean I've forgotten to include it - it just means that I actually liked it or I haven't seen it yet. These are presented in no particular order. Feel free to leave your opinions and comments below.

- DirectorStewart RaffillStarsKristy SwansonWilliam RagsdaleMeshach TaylorA young department store intern falls in love with a female store mannequin who is really a peasant girl fallen under a thousand year spell. She comes to life whenever he removes the cursed necklace from her. After the success of the original Mannequin movie, it only made sense to make a sequel. However, this 2nd installment was so lame and super silly, that only the extreme die hard fan of the original would enjoy it.
- DirectorMary LambertStarsEdward FurlongAnthony EdwardsClancy BrownA teenage boy and his father move to his recently-deceased mother's hometown, where they encounter the ancient Native American cemetery with the power to raise the dead.I was so disappointed in this 2nd Pet Sematary movie. They cast Edward Furlong, who was a hot property back then, fresh off of his success as a young John Connor in Terminator 2. But this turn only proved he couldn't act after all. Sometimes, dead is better - but not in this movie.
- DirectorStuart GillardStarsMatt LanterAmanda WalshColm FeoreThe United State's Department of Homeland Security is led to believe an American teen hacker playing a terrorist-attack simulator game online is a real terrorist out to destroy the U.S.There simply was no reason to make this movie. It pales in significance and in comparison to the original Matthew Broderick film. It was so bad, that I don't even remember the major plot of the film and I don't even care if I ever do.
- DirectorDick LowryStarsJackie GleasonJerry ReedPaul WilliamsBig and Little Enos are opening a sea food restaurant. They bet Sheriff Buford T. Justice that he cannot drive from Miami to the Enos ranch in Texas in a given amount of time. If Buford loses he has to give up his badge. After the success of the first two movies, which were brilliant in my opinion, they, of course, had to make yet a third one. However, this one misses the mark so bad that I couldn't even finish it - there is absolutely no redeeming qualities to this film whatsoever.
- DirectorJoseph SargentStarsLorraine GaryLance GuestMario Van PeeblesChief Brody's widow believes that her family is deliberately being targeted by another shark in search of revenge. The movies in this franchise got steadily worse with each release. I loved the original, enjoyed the 2nd one, and was even able to get through the 3rd one. But when this one came out, it was so dismally boring and disappointing - which they apparently realized since no more have been made since.
- DirectorMike BigelowStarsRob SchneiderEddie GriffinJeroen KrabbéDeuce is tricked again into man-whoring by T.J., only in Amsterdam while other man-whores are being murdered in his midst.I enjoyed the first movie a lot. It had me laughing and engaged from open to close. So when this one came out, I was excited to go see it. What a terrible movie! It just goes to show how drastically things can change from one movie to the next.
- DirectorPatricia BirchStarsMichelle PfeifferMaxwell CaulfieldLorna LuftA British student at a 1960s American high school must prove himself to the leader of a girls' gang whose members can only date greasers.Oh brother ... everything that made the original great is completely missing here. Why, oh why, do movie companies create such utter trash and then slap a well known name on the cover? Oh yeah, for the cash. And what a waste of money this one was.
- DirectorMichael Caton-JonesStarsSharon StoneDavid MorrisseyDavid ThewlisNovelist Catherine Tramell is once again in trouble with the law, and Scotland Yard appoints psychiatrist Dr. Michael Glass to evaluate her. Though, like Detective Nick Curran before him, Glass is entranced by Tramell and lured into a seductive game.I had a feeling this one wouldn't be as good as the original when I saw who was cast in it, also taking into consideration the amount of time between films. But I had no idea it was going to be this bad. Boring (yawn) and really makes no sense.
- DirectorSimon WincerStarsPaul HoganLinda KozlowskiJere BurnsAustralian Outback adventurer Mick "Crocodile" Dundee travels to Los Angeles with his young son while his longtime companion suspects foul play at a movie studio. The 1st two movies were very funny and enjoyable to watch. But this 3rd entry just wasn't funny at all. All performances were mailed in and it was obvious it was an exercise in greed - how far can we stretch this thing before it is no longer viable? I would say it was with this movie.
- DirectorSylvain WhiteStarsBrooke NevinDavid PaetkauTorrey DeVittoA group of teenagers in Colorado find themselves being stalked and killed one by one by a mysterious figure with a hook, exactly one year after they covered up a friend's accidental death. This is not only one of the worst sequels ever made, it is one of the worst movies in the history of movies ever made. It has nothing to do with the first two and is so completely ridiculous that I couldn't stop rolling my eyes or shaking my head. I have posted a review for this one if you want to read more.
- DirectorKristine PetersonStarsMark DacascosJames RyanGeoff MeedAfter David Sloan is murdered, it's up to kick-boxing champ Matt Reeves to avenge him. When they brought in Sasha Mitchell to replace Van Damme for 3 sequels in the Kickboxer series, I had my trepidations. However, those movies (Kickboxer 2 through 4) were actually pretty good. But this one, the 5th one, nearly ruined the series. Sloppy, weak, boring ... just awful.
- DirectorDavid FloresStarsJohn SchneiderSarah LafleurSam McMurrayMan-eating crocodiles return to the lake, as two males and one aggressive female crocodile protecting their nest wreak havoc on the locals. This sequel and every other sequel to follow in this series is nothing like the original film. Especially in the area of acting and CG work does it all fall apart. I have to ask, if you are going to knowingly put out such crap, why even bother at all?
- DirectorRob CohenStarsBrendan FraserJet LiMaria BelloIn the Far East, Alex O'Connell, the son of famed mummy fighters Rick and Evy O'Connell, unearths the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin -- a shape-shifting entity cursed by a witch centuries ago.I absolutely loved the first two movies in this franchise. But this 3rd installment loses it footing fast. When I saw Yeti's kicking field goals, I knew I was watching a real dud. Very disappointing.
- DirectorSean AndersStarsWill FerrellMark WahlbergMel GibsonHaving finally gotten used to each other's existence, Brad and Dusty must now deal with their intrusive fathers during the holidays.I know a lot of people liked this one, but it just didn't do it for me. It felt disjointed, shuffled together, and the jokes just weren't that funny. Even when they tried to bring it all together at the end with the "feel good" vibe, it still falls very flat. The first movie was much better.
- DirectorAndy FickmanStarsKevin JamesRaini RodriguezEduardo VerásteguiAfter six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Las Vegas with his teenage daughter before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers. The first movie was entertaining, not the best comedy I'd ever seen, but I enjoyed it. This 2nd movie however was just plain stupid. I had to struggle to get through to the end of it. If they ever make a 3rd one, I doubt I'll watch it.
- DirectorJack SholderStarsRobert EnglundMark PattonKim MyersA teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world. This one took everything that was great about the first one, including all of the established rules, and threw it out the window. Definitely the worst film of the franchise. Thankfully, the next film in line would get things back on track with the Dream Warriors.
- DirectorRobert KlaneStarsAndrew McCarthyJonathan SilvermanTerry KiserLarry and Richard use a voodoo-revived corpse to track down hidden money to clear their names.Yeah - Bernie is still dead and now he's dancing too. Ugh - the first one really wasn't even that good to begin with, so why I decided to watch this extremely dumb sequel is beyond me. Never again. Hopefully, Bernie is really dead for good now.
- DirectorRichard FleischerStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerGrace JonesOlivia d'AboConan leads a ragtag group of adventurers on a quest for a princess. After a very strong outing in the first Conan movie, Arnold disappoints in this rather weak sequel that had more of a made-for-tv feel to it. The acting was layers below the first movie, the cinematography basically sucked and the story was lame.
- DirectorTakashi ShimizuStarsAmber TamblynEdison ChenArielle KebbelThree interwoven stories about a terrible curse. A young woman encounters a malevolent supernatural force while searching for her missing sister in Tokyo; a mean high school prank goes horribly wrong; a woman with a deadly secret moves into a Chicago apartment building. You can throw The Grudge 3 in here as well. I really enjoyed the first Grudge. It was well made, the story was good and the acting solid. But the next two installments bored me to death, nothing was scary - except for the acting. Now, the word is a reboot is in the works and slated for a 2019 release.
- DirectorJon M. ChuStarsJesse EisenbergMark RuffaloWoody HarrelsonThe Four Horsemen resurface, and are forcibly recruited by a tech genius to pull off their most impossible heist yet.I loved the first movie, even despite the somewhat ridiculous ending. It was a captivating film. This sequel however tried to capture the same feel as the original, but falls flat in the process. No longer caring for the characters, I didn't care what happened to them.
- DirectorMichael BregmanStarsJay HernandezMario Van PeeblesLuis GuzmánIn the late 1960s, Carlito Brigante emerges as the heroin czar of Harlem. The first prequel on this list, this film was an absolute yawner. I had to force myself to sit and watch this one all the way through. I had bought it on good faith, but wound up giving it away to a friend. Good riddance too.
- DirectorRussell MulcahyStarsMichael CoponKaren DavidSimon QuartermanAfter witnessing his father's murder by the hand of the ruthless General Sargon, Mathayus travels to the Underworld to retrieve the enchanted Sword of Damocles from the dark deity, Astarte. Can he thwart the usurper's megalomaniac vision? From one prequel to another, this film failed on so many levels, I couldn't even count them all. Most notable however was the extremely bad special effects. It lacked anything good that we saw in the original Scorpion King. Definitely one to pass on. I can't speak for the other Scorpion King movies since I haven't seen them, they might have improved, I don't know.
- DirectorBrian LevantStarsMark AddyStephen BaldwinKristen JohnstonIn this live-action prequel to Gia Đình Flintstones (1994), the Flintstones and the Rubbles go on a trip to Rock Vegas, where Wilma Slaghoople is pursued by playboy Chip Rockefeller.Even my daughter hated this movie, and that's saying something. I'm not even going to spend any more time explaining why you shouldn't see this one. All you have to do is look at the cover and you'll see for yourself.
- DirectorRod DanielStarsFrench StewartErick AvariBarbara BabcockAmidst his parents' impending divorce, Kevin McCallister must foil his old nemesis Marv and his wife Vera's plot to kidnap a Crown Prince.Loved the first two Home Alones and even tolerated the 3rd one, but this 4th entry into the franchise was just so ridiculous and eons away from how good the original two were. Pass.
- DirectorAudu PadenStarsMichael J. FoxGeena DavisHugh LaurieThe Little family spend their vacation near Lake Garland. Meanwhile, in the forest, a beast is threatening the animals to give her food every night.Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2 are wonderful films to watch, good family entertainment. But whatever was working in 1 and 2, they trashed in favor of this new animated sequel that simply does not get it done.
