- From 1960 to 1964, I lived in Venice Beach, California, then known as Venice, Slum by the Sea. It was also the heart of the mushrooming beat and hippie cultures. Its free-spirited, flamboyant inhabitants fascinated me, and I filmed all who attracted my lens. Today, 43 years later, I have edited this footage into a 15-minute documentary titled Venice Beach in the Sixties-A Celebration of Creativity. It includes a hippie Halloween costume party; a hip non-costume party, with erotic dancers dressed only in body-paint; and an encounter with LSD, a life-enhancing experience that influenced my films by unveiling to me the mystical universe in its eternal aspect.
- A teenage woman's quest for a new look leads to a new personality as well.
- Richard Gaikowski chronicles punk rock band The Offs' performing at San Francisco's notorious "Deaf Club"
- The winner of numerous festival prizes, this early work by Lynne Sachs is a provocative film essay on women's perspectives on their bodies in a "man's world." It touches on everything from the female form's depiction in Renaissance art to the school of 19th century "scientific" thought equating "abnormal" physiognomy with criminality. This adventurous collage also features the filmmaker's own diaristic recollections (notably of being fitted for a diaphragm by a cold, intimidating doctor), poetical staged sequences, other women's audio testimonies, an old classroom instructional reel about menstruation, prose by Gertrude Stein and feminine "ideals" like the undulating young woman performing in fish-tail costumes at Florida's kitschy Weeki-Wachee Springs "Underwater Mermaid Theater." - Dennis Harvey
- A film with two superimposed screens, edited from 2 x 2 (1967) with additional footage filmed in Vancouver 1968, containing a meditation on abandoned houses, psychedelic 60's, anti-war sentiments, with a 'dystopian' view of society.
- Experimental documentary about the San Francisco scene.
