I'm a Virgo (2023)
one of the most inventive shows i've ever seen
Boots has done it again, immediately after starting the show you can tell that this is something special. The music, the writing, the set design, all comes together perfectly to set up another surreal world from boots riley.
Just a perfect execution of an amazing idea, the practical effects are genuinely jaw dropping. Was immediately holding my stomach from laughing so hard from the first episode.
Haven't seen a show in ages that has this much obvious care and attention put into it.
Truly radical, truly funny. Could not stop laughing.
Been telling just about everyone i know to watch it
Blown away, check it out.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Carries a Corpse Up a Mountain (2021)
So. Damn. Good.
Season 15 ends with probably the best episode of the season in my opinion. Constant laughs and really funny bits. Everyone killed it. The production on this episode was also super impressive! Fire season. Can't wait for more.
How to with John Wilson: How to Appreciate Wine (2021)
This is why I love this show
There's something beautiful about this show. This episode just shows it off perfectly. It's so human and hilarious.
John Wilson is a genius.
This episode is perfect. Love it.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: 2020: A Year In Review (2021)
Hilarious! They are back!!
I am in love with the fact that right wing people are complaining it got too political. Sunny has ALWAYS been political. Look at season 1... have you seen the show?? This episode was great.
ZIWE (2021)
HILARIOUS
The bad reviews are wrong, this show is so funny.
Ziwe is so naturally funny and talented.
Zola (2020)
Janicza Bravo kills it + Amazing Performances
I have zero clue why people on here are hating on this movie? What did you expect it was gonna be like?? I loved this movie. It's filled with hilarious and intense moments and did not bore me for a second.
All the performances were spot on. Check this out. Don't listen to the bad reviews, especially the guy at the top who also gave black swan a 3.
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
The most honest piece of comedy I've ever seen
Waiting for this special had me filled with anticipation, I don't think I've been this hyped for a comedy special before, though I had no idea what to expect at all.
What we received was the most honest, creative and depressing comedy special I've ever seen. Bo blew me away with his talent, with no crew or audience he managed to make a feature length masterpiece, filled with critiques of capitalism, (which was refreshing to see) social media and especially himself.
Bo is filled to the brim with creativity, and this special perfectly encapsulates that. The first half had me dying with laughter, the second had me close to tears. Some would say this is his best special, I might agree with that, but I'm not sure, because honestly it was a lot to take in. I will definitely be rewatching very soon.
Absolutely loved it.
Thanks Bo.
That Damn Michael Che (2021)
Great - Binge watched it
Hilarious show, check it out.
Michael Che is super funny.
Moonbase 8 (2020)
I like it a lot
I've been waiting for Moonbase 8 for a long long time, I'm a fan of Fred, Tim and Johns comedy, so unlike some other reviewers of this show, I wasn't surprised about what this show turned out to be.
I found this show to be very well made and pretty funny. Yes it is different to other comedies but that does NOT mean that is bad
Check it out.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
He's back
Borat is back, with this subsequent moviefilm.
This will be compared to the original to no end, but with borat being a cultural icon in America, this one was bound to be very different.
I loved this film, it made me topple with laughter multiple times. The accomplishment of making this within a pandemic is also a massive achievement.
Do I think this is better then the first one? No.
Do I think this is a hilarious movie? Absolutely.
This one seems a lot more planned narratively and has a lot more scripted scenes, not bad things at all.
The girl playing borat's daughter was also great.
Very nice!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The Supreme Court (2020)
This one hurts
Coming back from a month long break I was excited to tune in. What was I expecting to see except the depressing reality of what has happened since the last show?
This episode made me very angry, and sad for what's to come in America's future.
Great Job though, John
The Amber Ruffin Show (2020)
Amber Ruffin is wonderful
I think Amber Ruffin is an incredible writer, and her segments on Seth Myers have been some of my favorite on his show.
The Amber Ruffin show is going up, with no live audience, exclusively on a streaming service. Which is not common with late night talk shows. She also has no guests. I guarantee that it will take a little bit of time for it all for this to feel more natural. I really like Amber as a comedian, and I really really hope this show doesn't get cancelled.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
I'm speechless
Going into this I was a fan of Charlie Kaufman. So I was already excited. But this exceeded all of my expectations.
This movie is incredible, it's tense, and insane.
I am a big fan of surrealist film, mainly because I'm sick of being spoon-fed meaning.
The cinematography is insane. The performances are brilliant (especially by Toni Collette)
Great watch.
An American Pickle (2020)
A decent movie
An American pickle is definitely a lot different then all other Seth Rogen movies. That does not mean that it is bad. It is a heartwarming and pretty funny movie.
I think a lot of the criticism that is said about this movie is very unfair. Simon Rich is a great writer, and Seth Rogen plays both main roles very well. saying that this is anything below a 5 is ridiculous in my opinion.
Being rated Pg-13 I can see how some Seth Rogen fans would be disappointed that this isn't more like all of Seth Rogens other movies, but I like this movie and I'm glad they made it.
If you know what your going into, I honestly think you will enjoy it.
The King of Staten Island (2020)
Worth a watch
I have followed Judd and Pete's careers pretty closely so naturally I was exited to see this movie. I wanted to see it in theaters but renting it for 20 dollars in my living room was my only option for now.
Pete has proved himself to be a funny guy and a competent actor, and even though he's playing a similar character to his role in Big Time Adolescence, this is a big step forward in his career.
I think this movie will probably receive criticism for not being as funny as some of Judd Appatows other movies, but I don't think this movie was aiming for a the same thing as Superbad and The 40 year old virgin. Judd often talks about how the key to making a good comedy is to make a good drama and add humor to it, this is the perfect example.
Pete's story is intriguing and feels completely worthy of a movie like this. Some people wanting a non stop laugh fest maybe not like it, and it does have flaws, but I really enjoyed it.
This is probably Judds best movie in 10 years. And I highly recommend giving it a watch.
The Lodge (2019)
A decent horror movie that was unfairly judged
I went into the lodge knowing nothing about it, and I think that is the best way to do it for this one especially. In my opinion, Hereditary is one of the best horror movies in recent history, but hearing all of the "hereditary rip off" reviews does make me feel quite frustrated. Yes they do have quite a bit in common, but the actual plots are very very different. That is not to say I think this movie is perfect, there are quite a lot of things I did not like, especially plot wise.
There are a lot of people also saying it's a watered down Ari Aster movie. I love Ari Asters style of deep and complex storytelling. but not every single movie has to follow that format. A lot of the negative reviews (not all of them, there are a lot with genuine criticism) are either saying they wish it went deeper into the horror aspect in an Ari Aster way, or that it's too similar to Ari Asters style.
This is definitely a slow burn movie, saying that it is just boring is a huge exaggeration. Not everyone will like this, I can agree with that. But I feel like it's being judged too harshly. Most of the performances are good, the sound design is really good, and the landscape of the movie did make me genuinely scared.
Check it out for yourself
Saturday Night Live: SNL At Home: The Cast of SNL/Miley Cyrus (2020)
Pretty decent considering
Some people expected SNL to be able to instantly adapt to the new format PERFECTLY. We have all been struggling with this quarantine so I find it hypocritical when people criticize this as not being at the same standard as a regular episode. I have actually really enjoyed both episodes. They are trying, and some of it works very very well. Like the what's up with that Sketch, Petes rap, and the Kyle sketch. I was also blown way with the production on this episode.
I hope they keep making these. Please consider the circumstances before judging instantly.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Lights Out (2020)
One of my new favorites
As this season comes to an end I look back at how far this show has come, being cancelled at season 5 then getting picked back up a day later. I am so happy with how the new seasons have worked out. This episode stands out to me as one of the best not just of the new seasons, but of the whole show. I've grown to love these characters.
This episode was hilarious and had some really great set design. Super impressed for the finale.
Can't wait for season 8
Middleditch & Schwartz (2020)
Middleditch and Schwartz are the best of their generation
I'm a huge Middleditch and Schwartz fan. I've listened to every podcast they've been on, but I've never gotten to see them do long form improv together until now. These specials had me rolling in laughter. I've seen a lot of long form comedy in my life, and I'm confident to say they are the most natural at it.
This is a comedy special unlike I've ever seen before, I love it so much and I already want more.
Beef House (2020)
What is this? Some sort of beef house?
Beef house is an excellent and hilarious parody that plays to my sense of humor very very well. I've seen a lot of bad sitcoms in my life and this has pinpointed every stupid cliche they contain. The side characters really make the show. Like Tennessee, love that guy.
This is not for everyone, but it certainly works for me
Saturday Night Live: Saturday Night Live at Home: Tom Hanks/Chris Martin (2020)
Good, has potential to be great
This was the first attempt at the SNL at home format, this is one that's going in the SNL history books. and I honestly think most of it worked very well. It could have gone A LOT WORSE. Chloe Fineman was particularly good in this episode, with her sketch being very similar to the stuff she's been doing online for a long time. A lot of the cast adapted well with only a couple awkward and overdrawn bits. But overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. Kyle and Beck are always gonna be funny to me. There were some technical problems and jokes that didn't land without an audience but I'm very excited to see how they refine it over the coming weeks. Very impressed
Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet (2020)
Funny and well made show
Mythic quest: Ravens Banquet is part of Apple TV's first go's at original content, and I can't tell you how glad I am that they chose Rob Mcellhenny and Charlie Day to make a show with them. This show looks at the insane ego a person in these positions can get, and how they are willing to sacrifice their employees work conditions to get the results that they want. I'm a huge IASIP fan so I'm familiar with the humor they usually go for. The idea of a video game company isn't something we have never seen before, but every other time it's used as a gimmick without actually knowing how games work. In no way is this a perfect show, but, this is a pretty intelligent show. It's almost to gaming, what Silicon Valley is to tech companies. Some realism is lost through gags and bits but it's one of the most accurate depictions of game studios I've seen. Danny Pudi and David Hornsby are both great in this. So is Rob. This is a quality show. And guys, I know it's not a perfect show, but can you actually give it a go before bashing on it. Thank you
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Manhunter (2020)
Nine Nine is back
Well here we are, for the 7th season, crazy to think that a show like this was cancelled. This episode is great, classic Brooklyn Nine Nine fun. Vanessa Bayer is absolutely amazing and so is this whole episode. Hers to another great season!
The Good Place: Live Panel Discussion (2020)
Sad to see it go. Thankful we got to experience it
The good place wraps up after 4 seasons, in one of the best ways I could have imagined. I loved the run this show had and loved all of the characters. The connection you feel to each person is is unparalleled. I am sad that it's finished, but I think it was the right time to go. The writing has not only been hilarious, but deeply sad and thought provoking at times. This is one of the only shows where I had no idea where the next episode was going to go. Each season surprised me in the best way. It's so easy to look past some of the things this show has achieved, the incredible set and costume design had continued to blow me away. The good place will always be a special show that I can come back to and enjoy. Sometimes, something ending so soon, can make it feel infinitely more special
Greener Grass (2019)
Magnificently insane
This is by far one of the craziest movies I've ever seen, and I loved every moment of it. The surrealness of the humor, the crazy colored costume design, and the hilarious performances make this something special. A lot of the people who reviewed this on the lower half seem to have misunderstood what the movie was supposed to be. It turns what seems to be nonsense into amazing story arcs. I found myself laughing VERY hard at the strangest moments, the whole world that this movie sets up is mind boggling. Putting politeness over having any confrontation in the most extreme circumstances. The uncomfortableness of the whole neighborhood and every person in it makes this movie a whole lot of fun. I wish there were more movies that could make me burst out laughing with showing some kids flaunting knives. This is one of the few movies that deserves the cult status shorty after releasing. The whole cast is great, I can't wait to see what the writer/director duo come up with next
