Reviews
Gwoemul (2006)
Check this out!
I finally finished The Host (2006) on the Roku channel tonight and I really liked it. It has solid direction from Bong Joon-ho, neat acting, nice special effects (although they may haven't aged well) and ran in a very good pace for a 2 hour movie.
If you don't know what this movie is about, it's about this creature kidnapping a man's daughter and he has to save his daughter from the giant creature. The huge creature emerges from the Han River and begins attacking people at the beginning of the film. If you like silly monster movies and if you like Cloverfield, you will probably enjoy it.
This movie was quite a huge hit in South Korea and it was made 2 years before we had Cloverfield. So overall, this gets an 8/10.
Taken (2008)
Awesome movie.
I finished watching Taken (2008) on Disney+ tonight and it was an awesome action film with Liam Neeson. The film is about an ex-CIA officer named Bryan Mills, who sets about tracking down his daughter Kim and her best friend after they are kidnapped by Albanian bad guys during a vacation in Paris. Since this is a French film from EuropaCorp, this was quite a very popular film when it came out in France, it was such a big film back when it came out in 2008.
This film has pretty good acting, great pacing, neat direction by Pierre Morel, fantastic action sequences and a story that is executed very well. The scene where Marko gets tortured kinda reminds me of the torture scene from Casino Royale. I think my favourite character is Kim (Bryan's daughter who is played by Maggie Grace) because she's very pretty to look at. There is a very memorable line that will never, ever get old, which is: "If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you. I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."
Although the only flaws I have with this film is that not a lot of side characters get that much screen time. So overall, this movie gets a 9/10.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
This movie is really underrated, why bash on this movie?
This is actually the first Indian movie I've watched.
I finished the first Brahmastra movie on Disney+ and I thought it was a good Indian movie from 2022. Decent acting, fine pacing, and very good action sequences in the movie. It's very long at 168 minutes but I didn't get too bored watching it. This movie will serve as the first installment of a planned trilogy, which is itself planned to be part of a cinematic universe titled Astraverse (which is a bit like the MCU). And also, this is the first movie to have the Star Studios logo at the beginning.
The movie does have a few flaws but I still enjoyed it and I honestly wish it got a home media release. 7/10.
Gukga daepyo (2009)
A huge fun blast!
Skiing is one of my dreams so that's why I checked this movie out on the AsianCrush app tonight. It's a really fun movie with great acting from the South Korean actors and not to mention, there's a mixture of Korean and English (which is bilingual). The skiing scenes are well done and fast paced. The cinematography is really good. I think the reason why some scenes had some fog is probably due to the visual effects.
It's not a perfect movie, but it does have a few flaws in it. If you're a fan of skiing or Korean movies in general, then I think you'll really have a huge blast watching this movie. I think Showbox did a great job making Take Off, and I'm definitely giving it a very strong 8/10.
The Box (2021)
Check it out!
(Warning: There might be some spoilers)
I watched this movie on the AsianCrush app tonight and I liked it. It has some really good songs and you might recognise some of them. The acting was good and the soundtrack is great. The story was okay as well. I'd recommend giving this movie a try one day. There's Bad Guy and A Sky Full of Stars in the movie which is really cool. I give The Box (2021) a 7/10.
The reason why I had to make sure that my review is not spoiler free because if you haven't seen the movie just yet, it's because you might recognise the songs, unless you've seen parts but not all of it.
Eonni (2019)
A pretty underrated South Korean film that is fun.
I quite liked this movie, although it's kinda like a Korean version of John Wick and Killer Bean Forever but with a female protagonist instead. The action scenes are fun to watch and the acting is decent. The cinematography isn't too bad either, but there are a few times when there are some jumpcuts throughout it. If you're a fan of revenge stories, you might enjoy this movie. It does have a few flaws, but is it that bad? No. Is it perfect? Not really. If you want to watch this movie for free, I recommend you watch it on the AsianCrush app if you're interested. This is a big dumb fun action movie, and I'm scoring it a 7/10.
Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase (2001)
I still love this straight-to-video movie.
I've always been a fan of this movie. It has been one of my favourite entries in the Scooby-Doo series. You know, I never knew Eric was the twist villain and he was responsible for creating the Phantom Virus until the end of the movie.
The comedy in this movie is very funny and very memorable. All of the characters are awesome and the pacing is well-done. It's not a perfect movie, but it is worth checking out if you're a fan of animated movies or if you're a Scooby-Doo fan in general. There are 10 levels that the Mystery gang have to get through in order to return to the real world.
This movie gets a 9/10, and Scooby-Dooby-Doo!
Mémoires affectives (2004)
An underrated masterpiece of Quebec cinema.
I finished watching this movie on DVD tonight and I loved it! A great story with great performances and well-done pacing. The soundtrack is also great too, as so is the main protagonist, Alexander. Alliance Atlantis did a good job making this movie. Sadly there's no English dub yet...
I watched it in French audio with English subtitles. You can't get this movie anywhere else on DVD apart from Canada and France, so if you don't have this movie on DVD or VHS or if you've never even heard of it, you can at least watch it online for free if you can find it. This is also my first Canadian movie I've watched in French.
Ricky 1 (1986)
Another crappy movie for free on YouTube.
Just like Foodfight, I watched a bit of it on YouTube and I have the exact same feeling as Foodfight. Thankfully I'm not going to watch all of it because it would be a waste of my time.
Ju-on: Kuroi shôjo (2009)
I slightly prefered Black Ghost.
I found the movie to be mediocre, it could've just been released a year later instead of in the same year. The scares were okay but it just wasn't that scary enough. Not an awful movie but not a great one either. The rattling sound effects were a little annoying.
Ju-on: Shiroi rôjo (2009)
A watchable 60-minute horror movie.
The only Ju-on movie I've watched so far, I think this one is okay. There are a lot of scary and brutal moments at the beginning, but one of the worst things about it is that the final 20 minutes aren't really that scary. I hope to give Black Ghost a try soon.
Terra (2007)
It's not a Star Wars rip-off.
Why are so many people saying it's a rip-off of Star Trek and Star Wars? That's not true at all, just because it inspired Star Wars doesn't make it a rip-off. The animation in this movie is okay but not great-looking, the plot is great and the characters are okay. The alien characters look very weird with their big eyes.
Calamity, une enfance de Martha Jane Cannary (2020)
Remi Chaye is back at directing again.
I really wanted to find somewhere to watch this movie online, and I finally did! I really liked this movie, but it wasn't as good as Long Way North in my opinion. The humour was pretty good and some characters were decent. Sadly there's no English dub yet.
Cheon-nyeon-yeo-woo-yeo-woo-bi (2007)
It's on YouTube for free right now.
I found this movie on YouTube for free and I decided to watch it today. I quite liked it a bit. It has beautiful animation, the characters were decent and I liked the story. Yobi is a cool protagonist and it is interesting that she can change into a fox. An easier way to watch this movie is with English subtitles. I think CJ Entertainment did a very good job with this movie, and I give it a 7/10.
Spectre (2015)
Good movie, but not as good as Skyfall
It's kind of cool that Blofeld is James Bond's foster brother. The acting and the action scenes are quite good, and I hope No Time to Die will be even better than this movie.
Skyfall (2012)
Awesome Bond movie!
This movie is really awesome, I loved it! The action scenes were really amazing. I look forward to watching Spectre as well before No Time to Die comes out in cinemas.
Quantum of Solace (2008)
Decent movie, but sadly not as good as Casino Royale.
I like this movie, but not as much as Casino Royale. The action was good but some of the editing of the action was a bit poor and some of the pacing in the middle was a bit slow. I thought Dominic Greene was a disappointing villain after the awesome Le Chiffre. Camille (the Bond girl) is cute and likeable as well. Overall I thought it was a good movie.
Casino Royale (2006)
Awesome movie
I loved this Bond movie, because I thought Daniel Craig did a great job as James Bond. The action scenes were great, the acting was awesome and the poker game was interesting. Also I'm watching these James Bond movies before No Time to Die comes out soon.
Joseph's Rant Corner (2021)
Pretty laughable
It's a little bit hard to hear the dialogue in the background of the music. That's why I say it's laughable.
999 (2021)
Mediocre and a little bit confusing
I don't hate it, but 999 is not a good title for a short movie. It could've been called something better.
Alec Behan Gets Grounded (2021)
WTF, really?! Whoever made this grounded series should be ashamed!
I still like grounded videos, just not out of users, okay? Alec Behan is my online friend and he doesn't deserve to be grounded! Some episodes can be laughably bad to watch.
Brandon Bott Gets Grounded (2021)
Who the hell would make this crap?
This is cyberbullying, okay? Whoever made this grounded series should be ashamed of themselves!
Killer Bean Forever (2008)
Another live reaction!
It's very good in my opinion because you get a lot of gun violence in one cartoon movie.
The Rodfellows Movie (2020)
I now do not care for this movie.
I just can't like it anymore, Dan P. Lyons and Darren Pipster have gone downhill, I can't like this movie ever again!
Tout en haut du monde (2015)
Why it is a masterpiece
I've only seen the English dub of this movie, it's quite a cool movie to watch. Been checking it out for a few years now!
Watch Date: May 30, 2020
