Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
All About Having Fun!
I really liked it! Every actor gave it everything they had and it showed. I know a lot of people are going to review it poorly for "not real trek" but Star Trek has always had the odd weird episode, and Subspace Rhapsody fits well. There's a reason for the singing, the story is fun, the singing is great, songs are catchy, and it has good character development. The story had a few weak spots, I will admit, but that didn't bother me.
This episode is just about having fun, and that's what the cast and crew did! They all had fun. And so did I.
Besides, it's fun to let loose and goof off every once in a while anyway!
Our Flag Means Death (2022)
Not to Everyone's Taste -
I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes. The story is just getting started at this point which I guess is why they released 3 straight away.
The characterisation is great! Darby is a gem and the crew all have their quirks and perks. Each character has their own little story going on and after 3 episodes I am already attached to most!
The comedy is classic Taika Waititi which is not to everyones taste but true love for me.
Cinematography is good for a HBO comedy, and the music is of course well suited.
I hops this show does well, but then it is not to everyones taste and I can see why. It's silly and fun but that's good enough for me!
Downton Abbey (2010)
You Don't Just Watch Downton, You Live It.
Downton Abbey is something else.
When it comes to what movies and shows are regarded as "good", usually it is based on numerous cinematic keys such as story, direction, cinematography, performance, and art. But for Downton Abbey, you forget all of that. Cinema art (though appears frequently and strong) is not why you watch Downton. You watch it for the people who's lives capture you. From 1911 to the late 1920s, Downton Abbey takes you on a journey and one you wish would never end. You see beauty in the created world. You see love. You see drama and passion and enticing moments that have your heart pounding like an ACDC concert. You don't just watch Downton Abbey, you live it.
On that dreadful Monday evening, you put on the very next episode and let Cousin Violet, Lady Mary, Mr Bates and Carson take you to a new world. A new escape. There will be times when you will cry. And there will be times when you laugh and smile. And yet there will also be times where you scratch your head a little. But none the less, you continue to go forward with the next episode because you just know that life is different and somewhat better with Downton. You're a part of this world for the next hour or more and that is something really rare and special.
Writer and comedian Jimmy Carr recently stated in his new book that during his most stressful times, he would watch an episode of Downton because it just takes you away from every panicking moment in your life and throws you into this exciting new world of the 1920s. He puts it well by stating during the worst moments of his life, nothing beat "Downton and Chill".
And it's true. We watch these shows and movies to find an escape from reality for a couple of hours. And while most shows do that, Downton Abbey does it better. It doesn't take you away for a few hours. It takes you away for 6 whole seasons.
I don't think there will ever be a show quite like this ever again. And I am glad for that because it means Downton Abbey will forever remain special. Looking back at the year of 2021, I won't think of it as the year I began my studies, or the year I got a new job. I will look back on it and see it as the year I went on an adventure to Downton Abbey, and blimey what a memory to behold.
Thank-You Julian Fellowes, it's been a pleasure experiencing this wonderful world you created!
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
I am not a Snyder fan but...
First let me just say if you want to dislike this film then that's fine, the world would be boring if everyone had the same opinion. This is mine:
Art is different for everyone. Some people do camera angles, others do slow motion. Zack Snyder does the latter and it is not for everyone. But is for some. This is a different movie to the 2017. Same story, same actors, bigger film. And it was beautiful. I highly loved this movie. It was full of story, the heroes were all amazing and every single one played a big part. I found the film was done well with it's 6 parts too. It was like reading a book, very well done. The 2017 movie was ok. Honestly it wasnt atrocious. Yet i can honestly say will never see it ever again now. This movie is a masterpiece. There i said it. I was not a Snyder fan, but i am now. Thank you sir! I enjoyed your art
Words on Bathroom Walls (2020)
It's Young Adult not Scorsese
Films like this really need to be seen with the understanding that it's not a Scorsese film or cinematic masterpiece. It's a young adult drama aimed at young adult audiences or those who appreciate the genre.
As a film itself (ignoring the book) some of the acting can be very questionable from the side characters. However Charlie Plummer (probably best known for his other YA series Looking for Alaska) does a very very good job here! He plays that awkward wannabe loved new kid quite well and although it's a positive thing, I can see him getting type cast to the character role very quick.
I would also like to just say how Walton Coggins was remarkable in this movie. His character was absolutely well portrayed and Coggins fit the part perfectly.
This movie is not perfect. It's not a masterpiece and it isn't an award winning cinematic experience. But it's something for the heart and I think it handles the mental illness topic very well. The story was just so moving and loving too, although that mostly goes to the author of the novel.
If you liked Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, and other similar films, you should love this one too!
Freaky (2020)
Don't Take It Seriously
I loved it. Vince knocks it out of the park as a teenage girl and all the characters really pulled off their scripts. The point of movies is to entertain and I was so entertained during this film.
The issue is you can't take this movie seriously. It is not meant to be a realistic slasher. It's just an entertaining fun teenage horror comedy and a damn good one!
Not to forget, the very talented, very beautiful and very great Kathryn Newton who made a great serial killer Barbie. Top work from her and her co stars!
Raised by Wolves (2020)
It's Weird. I like that.
Cinematography is great. Music is great. Acting is pretty good. Story is weird. And I mean it's weird to the point where it's original and not disturbing. It's really good if you want an original sci-fi that has un original characters. We have had robots, we have had alien monsters, we have had religion vs non religion and we have had other worldly planets. But Raised By Wolves has that all in one and it works!
Weirdly enough.
Solar Opposites: Terry and Korvo Steal a Bear (2020)
YOU KNOW THAT DREAM YOU HAVE OF THE PERFECT MOVIE
Well this is it. I want this TV episode to be my favourite movie so bad. WHY IS THIS MINITURE PEOPLE ARC NOT IT'S OWN SHOW!?
Seriously, the story in this was fantastic and the emotions and suspense were all there. 10/10.
Curb Your Enthusiasm: Elizabeth, Margaret and Larry (2020)
JON HAMM IS NOW MY FAVOURITE ACTOR
Hamm has just become my new favourite actor thanks to this episode of curb. He stole the show and absolutely nailed the part of Larry's shadow. I had to write this review just because of the impression Hamm left on me after viewing this episode. 8/10 for a curb episode but 10/10 for Jon Hamm.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps (2020)
Absolutely Beautiful
As a fan of original, I finally managed to get some time in to play this long awaited next chapter and I can finally say this game is just as beautiful and just as sweet. It's heartwarming and the narrative structure once again works extremely well. The first game ticked all the boxes and so does this one just 5 years later. You can now use both melee and range type weapons which makes this game a bit easier, but what really sells this is just how beautiful it really is all together. The music, the art, the characters, and of course, the emotional and heartwarming story. Whether you are new to the Ori world or a fan of the first, you cannot go wrong by playing this game.
9.9/10 highly recommend.
Armstrong (2019)
THE SHOULDER'S OF GIANTS
Armstrong is a beautiful documentary and Harrison Ford reads the words of beloved astronaut Neil Armstrong perfectly. The film takes you on am adventure of bravery and emotions. I have followed NASA and the journey they have taken this world on for sometime and I can safely say that this is one of the better documentaries on the genre.
If you love space, NASA, or are simply just a fan of the legend himself, this film is for you.
Buzz Aldrin does not speak and perhaps thats a personal choice on his behalf but other than that this is a beautiful doco and I cannot wait to gift the DVD to my grandfather. It brought tears to my eyes and I generally feel moved.
9.8/10
Locke & Key (2020)
Look it's not perfect okay?
Look it is not perfect okay? There are some plot holes that make no sense. In fact there are times where it seems the audience is smarter than the writers and that's just not a good sign. So no, this isn't an award winning series. It isn't fantastic. It isn't even smart. But it's entertaining. Perhaps I liked it more because I'm a huge sci-fi drama fan. And that's what this is; drama. Some of the acting is weak, the story is an incomplete puzzle that's just thrown together, and yeah okay the characters do some dumb things.
However there's one thing this show does that not a lot of new things do. It takes you away from reality. I didn't mind the plot holes or the stale acting because the drama and events were enough to take me away from reality just enough that I sat with a smile and actually enjoyed TV.
So no, this isn't the next Stranger Things or Supernatural. But it is enough to allow you to forget about politics and the real world for an hour or 10. Enjoy it for what it is; a supernatural drama.
I give it an 8/10 because it was enough to satisfy me and leave me wanting more. I don't think there will be a season 2 after the way writers have ruined things, but if there is I'll definitely be down for some more reality forgetting drama.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
New Favorite Director
This movie stole my heart and had everything in it I could have possibly wanted. It was funny and clever but was also mature enough that it was serious about the war themes. Taika Waititi wins best performance as the imaginary friend Adolf and best director and best writing. He is such a wonderful man I feel bad for not giving him any chances until now. JoJo Rabbit deserves such a high score it really does for so many reasons
The Witcher (2019)
Wasn't Expecting That!
I knew this was going to be good. I mean the trailer looked amazing and it's Henry Cavill. But I never imagined it to be this good. If you like Game of Thrones you will love this. It's everything the same plus more. It is just as violent with just as much nudity and profanity. But the story and music and cinematography are incredible and the actress who plays Ciri really steals the show. She is incredible.
Netflix has another huge hit here, give it a go! This does not dissapoint.
*Note I have only played the games and not read the books*
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
There are issues but it's Star Wars
There are issues with this movie don't get me wrong. But there are also great moments that outweigh these problems. Most fan theories were met and I guess this impacts a lot of people and makes the movie boring. But there's only so much Abrams could've done. I loved this movie because it reminded me of why I like star wars. The music was amazing and the non stop action was brilliant. But it took me back to when I was child playing with lightsabers in the back yard. I don't like star wars because it's an award winning movie series. I like it because it is fake. It is an escape and it allows us to live in a world of sci-fi dreams. Lazer swords, space ships, robots, and planets. George Lucas created a universe of escape and in this last movie, I found redemption. I found escape. For the whole 2 hours and 20 minutes I was in a dream world and it had my emotions all over the place. That is Star Wars.
I'm sorry most fans are upset because they're opinions on what should've happened weren't met. But we forgive the mistakes star wars makes because it gives us a dream world where we can all go back and be children at heart.
JJ brought me home in this movie. The Rise of Skywalker is a Star Wars movie and I'm greatful for every bit of it.
Thank you for concluding my childhood
IMDbrief: Why 'The Irishman' Is Scorsese's MCU Movie (2019)
LET IT GO ALREADY
Does it really matter!? Cinema used to be very different back when Scorsese was writing and directing big hits. Now times have changed and he just respects old school cinema. Why is everyone up in arms about one man's opinion!? Let it go for crying out loud. And this video is just 5 minutes of looking for excuses to stick up for Marvel. Ugh.
Green Eggs and Ham (2019)
I hate all Netflix shows except Stranger Things.. oh and this
I am 21 years old, and this show has made me smile so damn much! It's absolutely loveable and funny and extremely enjoyable. I honestly don't like many cartoon shows but something about Green Eggs and Ham is just hitting all the right spots. I can't stop smiling this show is the best medicine to everything. 10/10
Looking for Alaska (2019)
Pure With Talent
Looking for Alaska is Hulu/Stan's idea of how to turn one novel into an eight episode series. If you are coming here without reading the book or having never heard of it, I recommend this series. It has drama, love, fights, and it will make you smile and hug your pillow as you can't help but to feel a connection for all the characters. But if you have read the book, and I have, then you may be quite nervous on this show. In all honesty I don't like this adaption. The book was way better. The Eagle is too much of a soft touch, rules don't align, and certain characters seem different than I remember. The first three episodes make up most of the book and the rest is mostly pranks and fillers. So why did I give this an 8/10? Because we can't keep comparing movies and shows to their source material and honestly I would've fallen in love with this show had it not been for me reading the book and falling in love with that first. The acting is brilliant and the cinematography is amazing and way better than I was expecting. I think this wouldve worked better as a film but considering they turned it into a series instead, it is actually kind of amazing how a 270 paged book made such an entertaining 8hour journey. As much as I don't like the adaption, I strongly like the screen side.
Give it a go.
Either way you'll find something to love, even if it is just the amazing amount of talent.
First Man (2018)
History at its Finest!
I will keep this review short.
If you aspire to go to space, reach Mars, travel the furthest from Earth, follow the steps of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Mike Collins, Jim Lovell, Fred Haise etc etc then you will love this movie and be inspired to keep on following your dream.
If however you just want a good movie to keep you entertained then sadly this is not for you. You will get bored very quickly.
Me personally: I loved this movie and think it shows just how far mankind can really go! Great artistic shots, great scenery, excellent acting (well, for most) and of course great directing! 10/10. Then again, I aspire to reach my dream.
Supergirl: The Adventures of Supergirl (2016)
Looks Like Hope Once More...
Before I begin. I dislike Supergirl. Yes I know, "give it a chance! It is really good trust me" But honestly I can pass on her. It is just the character I do not like. However today, I actually prepared myself and watched this season's premier. I am a massive Superman fan. Honestly him and Flash are my favourite two heroes. And seriously
it is very hard to impress me with these 'Super TV Shows'.
But today
I believe I most certainly just witnessed one of the best Superman actors I have ever seen. He portrays the best Clark Kent. I'm sad to say that I prefer him over Henry Cavil. All I ask is for you people to give Toby a chance. I really think he is one of the best Superman actors in this era. I really do. He was so quirky and goofy and just good old clumsy. The humour was great and seeing brother and sister side by side saving the world
it is a real treat.
This episode actually made me smile on numerous occasions. The story was good, the character dramas were all on point. Only one issue, the story didn't really carry on with the fallen pod issue. But never the less, it still was worth a watch.
So in conclusion,
Even if you do not like this show. I recommend that you watch this episode. Any fan of Superman, I promise this will not disappoint! Superman and Supergirl together, brings us hope once more. And yes
pun intended!
