The Sympathy Card (2019)
I liked this movie
I went into this with no expectations, and I was not disappointed that I watched it. It was funny in places, sad in others, and a bit of drama mixed in as well. Acting was quite well done, inspite of the actors not being A listers. Nika Ezell Pappas was terrific as was Petey Gibson. For me though, I found Lauren Neal unforgettable. Starting off as a small part of the plot, she became a significant character with whom I felt alot of sympathy. The cliffhanger ending was an interesting twist and we never find out the outcome.
I enjoyed this movie alot. There is no graphic or gratuitious sex scenes, so it would be suitable for most teens and young adults.
Snapshots (2018)
One of the best films I have ever stumbled upon
I found this movie on Tubi and found it to be riveting and could not stop watching. Contains elements of sadness, fear, regrets and also hope. Splendidly acted and well written, this film deserves more accolades than many blockbusters of inferior quality.
Writing Kim (2020)
I like this movie
I enjoyed this movie. It was an interesting concept, one I find difficult to comprehend, but still, it was gripping, moved along quickly and the two women played the parts fittingly. The ending was a bit surprising to me as it was not what i expected to happen. Well done.
Quarter Bin (2015)
quite possibly the worst of the worst
This movie is by no means a classic. The acting is horrible. The storyline had potential, but the acting was sufficiently bad enough that it became a terrible movie. The only bright light in the movie was "Lisa" who had sufficient talent to keep the movie afloat. Not on my rewatch list.
Ashley (2013)
this is an extraordinary film
This film is extremely well done. Nicole Fox's portrayal of a depressed teen is spot on. The treatment she receives from her father, mother's boyfriend, classmates, and the attempted rape are all issues that members of the LGBTQ community face daily and it needed to be brought to light. It is a shame that this film did not get more widespread approval and kudos. I found it to be an extraordinary film.
Late Bloomers (1996)
considerably better than i expected
I really enjoyed this movie, even though it is now a bit dated in terms of social acceptances of homosexuality. The acting was quite good, despite there being no a-listers in the cast (obviously this is not required for a good movie). I found the writing good and the cinematography was okay. The few collage scenes were a bit too much, like looking through a kaleidoscope.
The topic of homosexuality was handled with sensitivity, compassion, and decency.
Overall, i really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it to anyone who asks.
Claire of the Moon (1992)
ok movie but not great
I found this movie to be a bit drawn out longer than it needed to be and left me with unanswered questions. What kind of writers retreat was this? There was little about writing incorporated into the plot. Why were all the women anti men? Why were there not any men at the retreat? Why were there an abundance of lesbian women at this retreat? It was interesting enough to watch but was lacking something that made it really good. Perhaps the fact it was made in 1992.
Liberty's Secret (2016)
Quite Enjoyable
Quite enjoyed this movie, good story line, satiristic of far right wing politicians. The only downfall that i could see is the lip synching between the musical video and audio tracks was somewhat lacking. Overall, a good watch without any gratuitous lesbian scenes and suitable for all ages.
Accidental Stripper (2003)
quite possibly one of the worst movies ever made
Just an awful movie. The acting is so poor, it deserves less than B movie status. The story line is just dumb. Lame is an great understatement. There is an hour i will never get back.
Spanglish Girls (2007)
Good Storyline but some things lacking
The storyline on this film is good, and it is well acted. It addresses issues with abuse and cheating in a most empathic way. However I found the editing to be quite poor, and the soundtrack often overpowering. In addition, the directing left something lacking, as there are some scenes that are weak. There is nothing in this film that is graphic, gratuitous or inappropriate for teens.
Choir Girl (2019)
Has some good points and one BIG bad point
The movie plot was quite gripping, in my opinion. Provides insight into human trafficking, and in particular underage and illegal immigrants. The acting is quite good, the cinematography was okay. The one bad point was the rape scene. This was quite disturbing to watch particularly in view that this was supposed to be a minor. As noted in other reviews, not for everyone, by any means. This will certainly cause trauma to those who may have experienced something similar.
Overall, I liked the movie, with the exception of the disturbing rape scene.
A Christmas Together with You (2021)
An interesting enough story but issues
This is a decent enough story line (s), and the acting is good. But I have some issues with the flashback scenes and photos of what is supposed to be 1971. They are completely out of touch with the time period. In 1971, high schoolers were not wearing shirt and ties to school, they weren't singing "I've got my love to keep me warm". This was the peak of anti war protests and hippie movements. That is my issue with this movie.
