Sockerexperimentet (2023)
Slow, sad and touching
A very sad (and true) story where we follow the intake Johanna at a home for people with learning difficulties around the 1940s. She's being one out of many to take part in an experiment eating unusually large amounts of sugar and fat. This was done in order to make a correlation between calories to caries resulting in declining dental and overall health for the participants who weren't even able to give their consent.
The film has a slow pace, following a classic Swedish style. The acting is good and credible, especially from the patients. In its core it's a story about friendship and love behind the cold reality where pride and a discrimination against the mentally challenged gets to decide what's right or wrong.
I recommend!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Who is Thor?
A disappointment to say the least. Thor who, from what I've felt so far, has been a serious but funny dude comes off as stupid and childish in this film. In the beginning I hoped that it was the narration by Korg that we saw completely over exaggerated and over the top. But it was the actual events of the film; over exaggerated and over the top. It's a silly movie that misses out on every moment that could've been impactful. Looking back at the earlier films with genuine moments and seriousness makes this a joke towards itself.
Bilal: A New Breed of Hero (2015)
Barely watchable
I watched this for the high rating and kept waiting for something worthwhile to happen. It didn't. The animation that others seem to find good is absolutely not a reason to watch the film because it lacks everything else. In fact the animation is super cringe due to a total lack of facial expressin. It looks like an animated game from 20 years ago. So all in all: bad story, trying to be deep when being shallow, boring stereotyphical characters, bad animation, confusing, don't bother watching.
I Go Back Home: Jimmy Scott (2016)
A touching film about the heart of music
This film both discovers and remembers Jimmy Scott, a very unique voice within the jazz community during his last years and recording. Producer Ralf Kemper seeks to fulfill a longing after recording his idol.
It's a project that turns into a musical journey beyond a commercial interest. There is simply a love of music that touches and mean something and the story of what someone is ready to do in order to incapsulate an unforgettable performance from a truly unique voice.
Teen Wolf (1985)
Funny 80s flick!
If you forgive this movie for outdated jokes about gays and fat people it's a fun movie with lots of 80s vibe in it. A highschool film with a twist, kind of unexpected at times which was fun, a little slow sometimes with not very well directed scenes but the story and acting is fun!
Farväl Falkenberg (2006)
A very special movie
I watched this without any expectations and was drawn in after some time. It has a very special vibe that I think might resonate more with people sharing the childhood-friendship-from-a-small-place-thing. The acting is effortless and makes the movie natural in the sense that you're tagging along a group and their conversations without really watching a film.
Don't expect a classic movies-movie if you know what I mean, this is more an artsy way of telling a story, and in contrast with another review I didn't find it artsy in a pretentious way at all. There's a lot of heart going in to this film and it touches upon the unspoken things under the surface, the frustrations of coming back where nothing moves forward and the comfort from the same phenomenon. A special film that left me feeling a little unease in a good way, looking back on life and reflecting on relationships in general.
438 dagar (2019)
A true story of freedom of speech
A great summing of the true story of journalists Martin Schibbye Johan Persson entering Ethiopia to cover a story of oil-interests when they're arrested for illegal entering and terrorism. The movie is well acted and thrilling to watch, it's a captivating story of free speech, justice and the search for truth with a nice sense of humor despite the seriousness of the film.
En komikers uppväxt (2019)
Good and sad
A touching movie about the rough climate at a school and neighbourhood in the 70s where the adult world is failing to see, help or care. Based on the biographical book from a Swedish comedian named Jonas Gardell which gives it depth. It's an energy-taking watch due to the seriousness and discomfort from the story but a good film if you're in that mood!
Das System Milch (2017)
Great insight in the milk industry
This is great educative documentary that covers everything from how milk is made these days (from small to big-scale production but with a focus on the major industries) to the impact the industry has on farmers, invironment and people's perception of milk. It makes you think twice of your own consumption and shows a face of milk production rather covered up from the everyday consumer. Take the chance and educate yourself if you're a milk-drinker!
Bad Boys II (2003)
Bad boys as in bad movie
I generally enjoy actionflicks even when they're over the top which this one totally is (as expected, hello Michael Bay!), sadly this one is not pleasurable at all. There are so many cuts, explosions and "cool" scenes that it's hard to tell where the characters are situated throughout the whole movie but specially in the action scenes. I get the feeling that they've just filmed a bunch of scenes and somebody just cut it all together from 1000 different clips hehe. Anyway, that isn't really what bothers me.
Already in the first movie I felt that the chemistry between Lawrence and Smith is weird. If it's supposed to be funny it hasn't aged well since this kind of "humor" was fun (I doubt it ever has), they're just being nasty towards each other and there's no love there if you know what I mean. It would've been cool if you could sense the glimpse in the eye but no, they're just flat out mad at each other or someone else throughout the film and that's not nice to be a part of. It's uncomfortable, unnecessary and not funny no matter how hard they try.
Speaking of funny the overall deliver of jokes doesn't work, I can tell whenever there's a joke and your supposed to laugh but I find myself just cringing. Simply but this is not an enjoyable film and it's mainly because of the atmosphere that just suuuuuucks.
Thunder Force (2021)
Silly good fun, bit too long
First part of the film (when they're growing up) is awesome in every sense of a film, when the Thunder Force story begins it looses some intimacy that was there before, like the genre is shifting and another movie takes over.
The rest of the film is a silly action-comedy movie making fun of the superhero-genre. It's a bit too long for the genre but has a funny vibe throughout and unexpected funny moments. People giving low reviews clearly don't understand sarcasm and irony. If you like that, it's a great film to laugh to when tired and eating snacks.
The Spy Next Door (2010)
Jackie goes spy-dad
This is very much a family movie and a pleasant one a that. Jackie's charm's in the right place, the story is exciting and the kid-actors are great! The "russians" are more lame than intended but it works in within the frames of this genre. There are no extreme and daring stunts but it has entertaining fight-scenes and some nice moves even though you can tell there's a a lot of safety going taking away the edge at some places and the cutting doesn't help.
Overall a funny and enjoyable family-movie that really deserves at least a 6, I feel it shows what one expects plus the extra ingredient of Jackie Chan
The Greatest Showman (2017)
A wonderful film
First I want to compare the reviews to Lala Land which was praised by critics but condemned by the audience. It seems like this film is going through the opposite: critics hate it, audiences love it. And I can only chant along with the praising, just saw it for the second time and yet another time I'm astonished from this completely wonderful film!
First of all it is very nice shot with beautiful scenes, lightning and camera-work. The singing and dancing is so inspired (again compare to lalaland where they dance like sticks and sing without inspiration) and you can tell the cast had fun doing this (TIP watch rehearsals, so lovely). Over all everything is excellently delivered and the story is so beautiful with many layers that all take their place without being skipped or taking to much screentime. WATCH THIS FILM. The soundtrack is gospel-inspired with a touch of modern pop so don't expect classic musical-feels to it. Expect more. Cause this film is more and it soars over what critics seem to comprehend. Prepare for your emotions being awaken and your heart to expand!
Lilla Jönssonligan och cornflakeskuppen (1996)
The greatest Jönssonligan prequel
A very well executed family-movie for both kids and adults! Great actors, story, music, scenes and dialouge. I'm surprised by the low ratings, there's really nothing to complain about if you have a sence of humour.
It might now be very well connected to the movies showing them as adults but I don't feel that's the point and the characters that are consistant in the story is very well portraited anyways. There's no lilla Jönssonligan-film that tops this one. Enjoy!
Blindspotting (2018)
Great stuff
This was a great movie.
Great dialogue with some beautifully delivered rap-bars sneaking in to everyday conversations. Great work with how it's filmed, creative and varying. Great acting most of the time, I found it somehow off in the beginning but then again it was sometimes reaaally good too.
Watch it!
Les frères Sisters (2018)
Entertaining & exciting
Just came from the cinema! Totally enjoyed this.
Storywise it delivers what's expected by a good ol' western: a slow yet steady storytelling with gunmen, brothels, chasing, gold and whisky. Actors were great, the bond between the brothers felt very convincing! Creative filming, nice soundtrack and a very autentic feel to it overall.
If you're in the right mood, relaxed and feeling it: kick back and enjoy this great picture!
Wonder Woman (2017)
Seems that only fans've rated so far
We'll start of with a few good things: The story's descent, characters are cool and the effects are sometimes inspiring.
Other that that it's just not a very good movie. The acting is really bad and the characters reactions to about everything that pops up are never credible. The effects that I mentioned being sometimes inspiring are equally bad, as if the effort is only reserved to a few scenes. The decisions and conclusions that the characters made are not built up enough and it feels like they come out of the air. The dialogue is so bad it hurt sometimes and scenes that are supposed to be serious become laughable, take this for example (occurs at about 3 minutes in setting the tone for the depth in the dialogue):
Woman 1: "Looks very good"
Woman 2: "Very good"
Woman 1: "How's she?" *pointing*
Woman 2: "She's good" *pointing*
Woman 1: "Keep working" *pointing*
Haha it both looks and sounds very funny, even better with context. Scenes like these creates a vibe not to take the movie seriously and I get the feeling that it is unintentionally goofy.
It seems to me that only the fans has been giving this the high IMDB-rate and I really hope it evens out so that the wider audience can decide if they want to spend 2 hours for what I felt was a disapointment.
La La Land (2016)
Overrated, why the big hype?
It started out OK but then I got the feeling throughout the movie that the filmmakers tries so hard making it the kind of movie it wants to be: A movie where it seems natural to start dancing and singing anytime. But it don't. That's the major problem for me, they just don't get away with it. It tries to be relaxed, special and weird in a good way (artistic) but it just don't and it huuurts!
Then there's the fact that many scenes seems to have been made without any effort of perfecting them, there's a long shot were the main characters are small- talking on a distance where they have OBVIOUSLY been doing voice-overs of themselves, the lips aren't even following their words?!
Then there's no chemistry between Gosling and Stone, they're just being stiff, specially Gosling who's even more stiff when dancing (he's pretty cute though). And it's absolutely outrageous that Stone won an Oscar for this?! Haven't seen the other nominated movies but I find it hard to understand that someone couldn't be better than that?
And what is the movie even about? It's NOT a story worth building a movie upon, it could be a sidetrack in a bigger film, it don't justify itself. Too long. Too pretentious.
Mr Legend on the other hand is what his name says; a legend. He's totally funny. And the music is sometimes worth the while, even if it's really not that catchy. Overall I find it weird that it's so hyped, I guess it's our generation that haven't seen the classic movies in this genre and think it's something new when it's really a poor effort of recreating a concept that used to touch.
