Return to Never Land (2002)
Should of been a direct to video sequel!OK animation and songs
In this sequel to Disney's Peter Pan we see Wendy all grown up with children of her own. Wendy's daughter Jane is having family problems as London is sending all the children away during World War 2.
Wendy is kidnaped by Captain Hook and his pirate crew. Hook kidnaps her thinking he will finally get Peter Pan. Peter Pan discovers that Hook accidently brought Wendy's daughter instead. Peter tell Jane the only way is to fly. This sounds like something from the "The Wizard of Oz" type story. Jane gets herself into a deal with Hook which she eventually regrets.
Hook manages to capture Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. It's up to Jane and Tinker Bell to save them. There is also a sub-plot with Tinker Bell dying . Jane saves everyone and goes home. The ending of the movie is a happy one as Disney always seems to do. One question though . Was the trip to Neverland all a dream?
The animation was like watching one of the many direct to video sequels Disney has done over the years. The songs were OK. If you really want to see this wait until it gets to the cheap movie theaters.
Dragonfly (2002)
A cross of The Sixth Sense, Ghost and What Lies Beneath! Semi-predictable! Felt like a made for TV movie
In Kevin Costner's latest movie, Costner plays a doctor who recently lost his wife while she was away doing work for the Red Cross. There is accident and his wifes dies. She is also pregant. We see the funeral etc.
Then Costner is told by his co-workers, boss etc to stop working so much. Costner starts to see things with hospital patients who have near death trips. He believes that they are talking to his dead wife. Eventually Costner finds out all along what his wife was trying to tell him about. I will not give away the ending as it was kinda sappy and sugar coated.
This movie is basically a cross of "The Sixth Sense", "Ghost" and "What Lies Beneath". It's been done before so we did not get anything new from Hollywood again. If you've seen any of these movies, it will be semi-predicatable for you.
The movie at times felt like a made for TV movie thriller. Sure you get to see Costner going crazy over his wife from beyond the grave. But the supporting players as just window dressing, Kathy Bates has done a lot better work than this. So has Joe Morton and also Ron Rifkin. Overall , watch this movie if your are Kevin Costner fan ,otherwise wait for it to hit the cheap movie theaters or DVD.
Impostor (2001)
One of 2002 worst movies of the year! Should of gone straight to DVD & video! Lame! Stupid!
This movie was shelfed for over a year until Disney could find a dumping date to bring this to movie theaters. It should gone straight to DVD and video! This movie was very much a "paint by numbers" film for bad science fiction and movies in general. Not to mention it ripped off several other science fiction movies like "Total Recall","The Thing","Invasion of the Body Snatchers". and "Blade Runner'.
I saw this movie today at the last matinee after I find it out it did not get into the Box Office top ten.Perhaps a bad marketing killed it at the movie theaters. The cast does what little they have in terms of a script. There even a "cat and mouse" game in the movie. I suspect that this movie will be on DVD very fast. Needless to say the audience was laughing out loud at this flop!
I find hard to belive that with 2002 being only 6 days old,I'm already writing a review for one the worst films of the year. The cast all has done better work than this pathetic movie.
This movie also a very close boardline "R" movie. The amount of swearing ,violence , and nudity almost make it a "R" movie.Maybe the MPAA was asleep when they rated this box office turkey? This film is just as bad as the movie "Supernova".
Wait for this turkey on DVD or better yet wait for it hit the cheap theaters.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
A wonderful biopic about John Forbes Nash,Jr and his life's problems to the Nobel Prize
I guess I'm one of the lucky people who have seen this movie before it gets a wide release.
This movie is a biopic of math prodigy John Forbes Nash,Jr and many of his problems in life. When we first meet John(played by the awesome Russell Crowe) he is a student a Princeton. John makes a few friends at the school. But John's problems are about to increase in his life big time. John graduates from Princeton and moves on to bigger things.
A few years later( the mid-1950's) John is working for the Dept. of Defense at MIT. John is recruited by a strange man in black to decode stuff for the government. John meets a beatuful woman who understands him.
After John and Alicia(jennifer Connelly) get married, John's life seems pretty normal. But their married problems do not get any better.Eventually John ends up in a mental hospital for his schizophrenia. John gets the medicine he needs to get better. But John is still seeing people and talking to people who do not exist. Eventaully John Nash wins his Nobel Prize in 1994.
There's lots more but I've already said enough.
This movie has Oscar written all over it. The cast should gets Oscar nominations for thier work.Ron Howard finally made a movie far better than his last movie(How the Grinch Stole Christmas). I hope this movie gets awards as it a very well done film about a real life person,
If you are sick and tired of all the typical mainstream trash out there, check out this wonderful biopic. It's about 2 1/2 hours but it goes by quite fast. This movie was better than the movie trailers before it! If not check it out when it comes out on DVD!
Spy Game (2001)
In a word: BORING!
This movie was not like the trailers/ TV ads for it.It is a long boring movie with Robert Redford and a bunch of men sitting around a table for most of the movie. There are too many flashbacks back to the past about Redford's and Pitt's relationship.Eventually I got up and refilled my soda becasue I was bored. Since this a mainstream movie, expect a typical mainstream ending. I predicted the ending of this movie at the halfway point. If this movie did not have so many flashbacks, maybe I would'nt of looked at my watch often during the movie.
This movie is more of a heavy drama, rather than a thriller. The only action in the movie is in the beginning and end.Other than that, it's mostly men talking around a table interviewing Redford. If I fell asleep, I doubt I would of missed much in this movie! The trailers and ads are misleading! Not a thriller but a long BORING drama!
So if you like BORING long movies, see this movie, Otherwise wait for this movie to hit the cheap movie theaters or DVD/videotape.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Special effects take over and it has a very small plot!Wait for it on DVD/Videotape!
Well today, I finally caved in and saw this movie. For starters I'm sick and tired about "Harry Potter". What I saw was just as I was expecting for a very big hyped movie. The movie itself had a very small plot(mainly Harry's first year at special school for wizards) and a small subplot about a special stone. This acting at times seems very wooden from both the actors, the extras etc. There is special effects overkill in this movie.
The running time is a little over 2 1/2 hours. This movies moves very slowly a lot of the time. Even when they have special effects it seems like it's a too long of a movie. I liked the adult actors, but I hope the child actors playing Harry Potter etc do not get typecast as they could if they play their roles until they are grown up. I also wondered if parts of this movie were left out on the cutting room floor.
I say if you are die hard fan of the series, see this movie, But if you are causal fan or just sick and tired of the whole "Harry Potter" thing wait for it on DVD/videotape.
Monsters, Inc. (2001)
A cute story about life inside our closets with Monsters!
This movie tells the story of two monsters who accidently let a little human girl into their world inside our closets. The two monsters must find a way to get her home. Along the way, the human girl becomes friends with these two monsters. Eventually word spreads though out the monster world to find the human girl at all costs. Since it's a Disney movie it has a happy ending. The bad guys get what they had coming to them. The monster world is saved and a new power source is found to power their world.
Black Knight (2001)
Direct rip-off of "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's court" One of 2001's worst movies!
Needless to say I went to go see this movie before I went back to my job working in retail which is very busy right now for a laugh. I like Martin Lawernce but this movie was not at all funny . The best parts of the movie were in the trailer and TV ads. This movie is so bad I felt like I was watching a direct to video movie on the big screen. If was Martin Lawernce, I'd be embrassed to star in it. Maybe he had becasue he has a contract with Fox? Big Momma's House anyone? The movie itself had nothing great about it. The way the ending is will a sequel be made out this trash. Please don't make a sequel to this junk!
Save your $$ and wait for this movie on DVD and video! Also why was this movie not direct to video?
This movie is one of 2001's worst movies for me. I wonder if it will get any "Razzies" next year for bad movies?
Behind Enemy Lines (2001)
Behind Enemy Lines = 1991's Flight of the Inturder recycled just new location!
If you've seen the 1991 movie "Flight of the Intruder" which starred Brad Johnson and Danny Glover, you've seen this movie before. All Hollywood did was change the location to Bosnia! Big deal! The movie itself is OK but at times I'd swear this movie was misrated! It should of been rated R for all the war violence! I felt like I was watching Pearl Harbor's battle scenes over a 90 minute period!
Gene Hackman gives us his usual miltary performance in this movie. Although he acts like he is just doing it for the paycheck. Owen Wilson was OK in the role of Bennet who is lost in Bosnia over the holiday season. Both of these actors have done better work. I think Owen Wilson should stick to comedy or else try a new genre in his next flick. Hackman can do well in almost everything . I just find it hard to believe that i like him better in his past movies.
If you must see this, wait for it to reach your cheap movie theaters. Or better yet wait for on DVD! I belive there are several times in the movie which has bad editing.
Or better yet, save yourself your hard earned cash and watch 1991's Flight of the Intruder! This movie is a rip-off of it!
Domestic Disturbance (2001)
Felt like a made for TV movie with some swearing! Cliched!
If you see this movie, you might as well be watching a made for TV movie! The acting, story everything about this movie has been done before. There is nothing new from Hollywood from this movie.Basically if you've seen the trailer and TV ads, you know what is going to happen.
If you want to see this movie watch "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle". This movie is the male vs. male version of that movie. Instead of a baby in trouble, it's been changed to a 12 year boy.
if you wish to see it fine but it's another recycled movie from Hollywood. Wait for it on DVD and video as it should be coming out in a few months. It also did very bad opening weekend? I guess John Travolta's bad movie streak he started with "Battlefield Earth" is still going on. If you like the film's main stars see it for that. But Vince Vaughn's bad guy drill is getting old(Clay Pigeons,Psycho anyone?) and Travolta still plays the good guy(expect for Battlefield Earth).
I just wish this movie was a direct to video release and spared the big screen release!
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
Bad Remake loosely based on the original! Wait for DVD!
This movie is loosely based on the classic movie "!3 Ghosts" and it's supposed to a update. What update? If you saw the updated "House on Haunted Hill", it's basically a rehash of that movie in a glass house. The story has tons of plot holes, the characters typical mainstream Hollywood, and why make the maid comic relief? Oh did mention it has CGI and special effects overkill?
Avoid this movie at all costs and wait for this movie on DVD and videotape! I wish I'd bought the original over this junk and saved my hard earned money for a better quality movie(something I'm finding harder and harder to do with only being able to watch mainstream movies only where I live!)
The Substitute: Failure Is Not an Option (2001)
An OK sequel! Rent it first!
In the fourth "The Substitute" movie we find Treat Williams going undercover at miltary school for a old friend worried about his son. The story was OK, the action scene totally cheesy and the dialogue pathetic. This movie also stars Angie Everhart as love interest for Treat Williams. Too bad she could'nt say this movie for her few scenes. Also there are really bad signs saying stuff like "Another minority owned installation" and others. Like they would do that in reality? The movie is rated R for swearing, violence and some partial nudity.
I hope if they make a fifth movie, it is better than this installment of the series. I often wonder who plays role of the Substitute better: Treat Williams or Tom Berenger? I wish Berenger keep the role as he was real at least.
If you really want to see this movie , rent it first before you buy it!
From Hell (2001)
Creepy!Very Dark! Scary!
This movie was very creepy. I wish it could of been a little longer. Overall one of this year's best scary movies! The movie was very scary to watch. I wish we could gotten to know the girls who the ripper kills a little more. it's still a very scary movie though!Very creepy and dark!
Original Sin (2001)
Felt like a made for TV movie with some nudity thrown in!Predictable!
I will give away spoilers that were in the trailer or TV ads. This movie felt like a made for TV movie with some nudity thrown in.I felt at times like I was watching a "Red Shoe" movie or the movie "Body Heat" starring William Hurt. The movie was predictable .So was the ending.Wait for it at a cheap movie theater or on DVD/videotape.It should be coming out soon due to it's poor dismal Box Office. I wonder if MGM lost any money on this movie?
Follow Me, Boys! (1966)
A man becomes a scoutmaster and has some funny adventures with the troop.good drama/comedy
In this movie a man moves into a town in the 1940 or it is 1930'(not sure which) a starts a new job. Then one day during a town meeting he volunteers to lead the local Boy Scout Troop. Of course this also leads to romance(it is Disney movie so it's standard) with one of the town's women. The only bad thing is she is going out with a rich, snobby guy . Eventually they both fall in love and get married. A young Kurt Russell also stars in this movie as boy always getting into trouble and treating the other boys meanly. The scout troop has pleanty of misadventures including accidently getting into a miltary "war games" .
Then many years World War 2 arrives. The young man who was always teasing everyone is now a soldier and a doctor.he also married a fellow solider. Everyone else in the orginal troop grew up as well. The troop honors their former scoutmaster with a touching day honoring him. If you like Fred Mccurray or Kurt Russell you might like this movie! This moive is a good drama/comedy.. It makes one wonder why Disney does not make these kinds of movies any more besides all this stupid live action movies. This movie was fresh in 1966 and it's still fresh today!
One question though.. When/Will will this come out on DVD?
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Should of been a direct to video movie or TV movie! Pathetic sequel!
I will not give away major plot points that has already been posted. The third movie in the "Jurassic Park" series feels like it should of gone straight to video or at least a made for TV movie. The story is lame. The people in the movie are dummies(even Alan Grant and he is a dino expert!) ,and the special effects are decent. if you really want to see this movie, wait for the DVD as you're not going to miss much on the big screen. But if you must see it,on the big screen, wait for it at a cheap movie theater.
Scary Movie 2 (2001)
Tasteless movie, OK spoofs Avoid at all costs!!
This movie is a tasteless sequel made just because the first movie made over $100 million at the box office last year. It spoofs many popular movies . There also any many sexual jokes, anti -gay jokes etc, This movie should of been rated NC-17 and never made. I noticed the movie was good at the beginning when it spoofed the "The Exorist". After that spoof it all falls downhill as it spoofs "Hollow Man", "What Lies Beneath" and the storyline of the 1999 remake of "The Haunting". This movie should be avoided at all costs! It stinks and is pure trash! Avoid at all costs if you can! If this what kind of humor Hollywood today likes toilet bowl humor, then I might as well forget seeing today's comedies. I wonder if "American Pie 2" will be as bad as this sequel? This movie left a bad taste in my mouth and to think I helped with it box office!
Shame on you Disney for making this trash!! Please do not make a third(unneeded) sequel to this movie!
Evolution (2001)
Men in Black and Ghostbusters recycled, nothing new here.Ok special effects
If you have seen "Men in Black" or the "Ghostbusters" movies then you have seen this before. There is nothing new here at all. The story is basically a recycling of "Men in Black" and the "Ghostbusters" movies. This movie has OK special effects ,maybe they will be better on DVD. Wait fort his movie at cheap movie theater or the DVD when it comes out!
Legally Blonde (2001)
A movie this summer that did not feel like trash for a change!
When I went into this movie ,I was thinking another piece of trash from Hollywood. To my actual suprise I liked it!!
In the movie, a college blonde losers her boyfriend. The boyfriend goes off to Havard. She follows him to Harvard after her funny video piece that the Harvard bigwigs watch. The girl leaves for Harvard so she can get him back.Though a series of funny legal misadventures, she becomes a legal aide for one of the teachers played by Victor Garber. They eventually get a trial. The girl faces several trials while working on the trial.I will not give away the ending, but everyone gets what's coming to them.
This movie was very funny and very cute! I liked it a lot!The cast was perfect in their roles! Kudos to MGM!!
Pearl Harbor (2001)
"Titanic" set during the time of Pearl Harbor, been there, done that!
This movie is basically "Titanic" recycled set during the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. It's from the director "Armeggedon" and "The Rock".So it's basically a "popcorn movie" which means very thin story/plot and special effects overkills.
I will get into this movie as I'm sure others here have done enough reviews to cover this film. The story feels like a made for TV movie. It's running time is over 3 hours, so if you need to go the restroom, you did not miss much. The best part of the movie is the attack of Pearl Harbor. What I do not get is if "Saving Private Ryan"'s opening battle scene that last 20 minutes ,made it a "R" how could almost a hour of war make this movie "PG-13"?
Wait for this at the cheap movie theater or the DVD and jump to the battle and avoid the rest of this movie!
If you want to see "Titanic" recycled fine, you were warned it's a long 3 hours!! Otherwise wait for this movie on DVD or the cheap movie theater!!It's also good if you want to take a nap at the movie theater!!ZZZZZZ!
Big Brother (2000)
BORING and STUPID!!, very game show!even "Surivivor was better than this!!
This show is basically a a half hour real life drama, They have several cameras around the house. The people are OK, if they did more stuff like than sit around and talk all day long. Even though this show is a rip-off of a european show<i 'd rather watch this series over in Europe. The half episodes are too short, very lame , no challeges or games. and the money should be money than half a million dollars. If I was doing this show, I'd up the ante(money) to a a couple million dollars.I would also allow nudity (lkike the europen show they ripped off!). more games .This show I hope is not our new idea of TV games in the 21st century! Also why does this show seem to falling down in the ratings! Please do not watch this lame show! It's BORING and STUPId!Even "Surivivor" was better than this lame reality based game show!Avoid watching this show like the plague!!It's one of the worst shows on the networks!Do something else instead of watch this junk(go online, watch a DVD,video,go for a walk etc..)So remember if you want a boring a stupid show go ahead watch it!It's already falling in the ratings so maybe CBS will give up on this new show!!
X-Men (2000)
The Animated series on Fox is better than this rehashed movie!I hear a sequel is in the works!Oh no!
The X-men is is OK if you like seeing Hollywood trash everything in the animates series and comics(I watch the animates series on FOX). The storyline was lame, the acting wooden and it seemed to remind of several comics turned movies like "Blade","Judge Dredd","The Phantom",Superman 1,2,3,4" and "Batman 1,2,3,4". If you have seen any if these movies this movie is basically any comic book turned into a big screen movie for it's fans! The special effects were at times . They could of done a better a job. As for the people in the X-men movie where the following X-men; Beast,Jubille and Gambit?I hear the cast is supposed to make two or more sequels(bet they have a contract and have to make them!!) Let's see if maybe the indie movie market can make a better movie off a comic book rather than mainstream Hollywood! If you want to see this movie fine,It just belong in the same caterogy as "Gone With The Wind". It aint no classic !More like a B-grade comic movie done over and over again!I bet this movie will on video/DVD by Christmas 2000!I can only hope the DVD has more stuff (like delated parts) than in the theater run!
Play It to the Bone (1999)
Basically a road trip about two friends who have to fight each other!!
This movie is about two freinds and former boxers who get a call to come to Las Vegas for a big fight. The two friends must fight each other. They travel with a friend who is going to Las Vegas anyway. The movie drags on at times!!Play it to the Bone takes too much time getting to Las Vegas. The previews pretty much have shown everyone the movie, but if you like the main stars, give it a try !!The only great thing about this movie was seeing the big stars beat each other during the fight!! Also the illusions during the fight get to be very strange!! To pass the time during the fight look for big name stars in the movie!!It's rated R for sexual references and jokes, insults to homosexuals, nudity and too much swearing!!Other than that, go see it for the fight, but this movie has too many problems for even to recommend it!!! I only gave a 5 on the voting system. This is my two cents worth review of this.
This World, Then the Fireworks (1997)
An interesting overlooked movie, worth a rental anyway!
This movie is moslty overlooked at most video shelfs. They tend to place this movie in action. What this movie is a dark, thriller about two twins who are very good at being very bad. They later learn that they need each other to be able to live. The twins are played by Billy Zane(Titanic,Dead Calm,The Phantom) and Gina Gershon(Face/Off). Also along for the ride are Rue McClanahan(TV's The Golden Girls)as the twins mother, who eventtually discover's the twins deadly secrets. Co-starring in this thriller is Will Patton(Entrapment,The Postman,No Way Out). It is rated R for nudity, swearing , some shot outs and some deaths. If you want to see the movie leads in some times overlooked movie , check out this movie!!This movie is worth a rental anyway , even it seems a bit off the normal mainstream eye candy !!Just dont let the kids watch this till their old enough to understand the plot and other things that made this a R movie!1
The Pentagon Wars (1998)
It's based on events the miltary due with the taxpayers money!
This movie is about a war machine that the U.S government wants to somday send troops out into combat. The names are changed but it's based on actual events that happened during the late 1960's to the late 1980's. The two big stars here are Kelsey Grammer(TV's Frasier) and Cary Elwes(Twister,Liar,Liar, Robin Hood:Men in Tights). Co-starring along with them are Richard Schiff(Forces of Nature,The Arrival ) and other smaller lesser known stars. As the movie progress, we get flashbacks of the vechicles early days in the late 1960's to the present. This movie shows the taxpayers ways their money was wasted on defense messes as this shows the viewer. There are a few laughs during the movie during the many screwed up tests !Eventually it all snowballs till Congress calls for hearing with both Grammer and Elwes there! If you like to see ways America's misspends it money check out this movie!!This movie should be listed as a drama/comedy but's not a action movie!!Other than that it 's fun and it about 1 and 45 minutes!!!
