Zoë Kravitz's mother, Lisa Bonet, was in the movie version of High Fidelity with John Cusack, playing one of Cusack's love interests. This time, Kravitz is playing the John Cusack role.
Originally announced for Disney's upcoming streaming service Disney+, it was reported in April 2019 that the series had been shifted to Hulu.
The club where Rob meets Liam (which 'feels like old New York' to her and plays an important role in her life) is called DeSalle's, a tribute to Marie DeSalle from Từ Khi Gặp Em (2000) (played by Lisa Bonet, Zoë Kravitz' mother).
The 2020 TV show is quite similar to the 2000 movie Từ Khi Gặp Em (2000) in terms of story and character, with some notable gender-shifts. Even the protagonist's first names are kept the same: Rob (cleverly short for Robyn in Kravitz' version), although strangely their last names do differ: John Cusack' Rob Gordon has become Zoë Kravitz' Robyn 'Rob' Brooks.
In August 2020 Hulu announced the show would not be renewed for a second season.
