Fluffy's humor definitely makes the show and his use of it definitely highlights how puts a bond between teachers and students. Having read a good portion of the review I see folks have been focusing the downplaying the show for the few times it makes jokes and Trumps expense, but since his presidency has a been a laughing stock since 2017 it works. Many shows have took a stab at presidents. Clinton, Bush, Nixon, Fod, Carter, Washington and many others however some of the reviewers seem to be taking stock in Trump and Trump only. So you can tell the definitive (I hope that is not too big a word for them) butt kissers who are missing the point of the show because their biased politics are taking precedence .
Gabe is trying to portray the teachers we all want for our kids. Someone who generally cares and tries to take the moral high ground whenever possible. His character as a teacher and how he interacts with his students makes him the person who truly believe in No Child Left Behind.
The show is somewhat family oriented and adult oriented. Most of the adult jokes will most likely go right over younger children's' heads, but the adults will definitely get a giggle or smile out of what adult humor exists.
I had a teacher like Gabe in High School so this made me appreciate them a lot more now than I did back in the late 80's (Graduated 1989).
While the show is very formulaic at times and reminds me of a modern Welcome Back Kotter it doesn't stray from its real premise which is a teacher who cares about his kids.
So if the political reviewers would get their heads of the presidents backside you may actually enjoy the show and understand the premise so much better. Take the politics out of your biased opinions (the wig joke in S1E1 was funny, sorry but I laughed) and watch the show for what it really is and you might enjoy it much more. Do you really want to trash a show because it made 3 jokes spread over an entire season about 45 when Last man Standing walked all over Biden every episode of an entire season due to Tim's politics or do you want to watch it and enjoy it for what is... a decent entertaining 30 minute show which does have a message? or do you want to be the Grinch and just hate on it for no reason because of a few political jokes.
and for those who think the laugh track needs to go, sorry but this type of comedy needs the laugh track to enhance the experience. Shows such as the office and modern family that didn't worked off situational comedy which is not everyone's teabag. So I would say since this is written comedy with minimal situational BG's in order to work I say it has to be left in.
Anyway, I enjoyed which is why I am giving it a 7 out of 10. My deductions really come from the lack of experience from some actors and some poor writing in the middle of Season 1.
Anyway, Thanks for reading my opinion and if you haven't given it a try at least watch the 1st 3 episodes and if by then you're not feeling it then fine move on and find something that suits your palette.
