The protests by the AIADMK party members and supporters worsened to the point where police officers visited director A.R. Murugadoss' house when he wasn't there. After that incident, the director went to the High Court to get an anticipatory bail. Eventually, on the third day after the movie's release, the studio agreed to cut the controversial scenes and mute the name Komalavalli.
Sarkar teaser is the fastest to reach 1 million likes on YouTube within 4hours and 45minutes. The previous record holder was "Avengers: Infinity war" teaser trailer 1 which took 21hours to achieve this feat. Also vijay's mersal marks the first movie teaser to gain 1 million likes on YouTube which was followed by "Avengers: Infinity war","Captain Marvel","Thugs of Hindustan" and "Sarkar".
Director Murugadoss said in an interview that vijay's character in this movie is based on Google CEO Sundar Pichchai. Also Vijay is named as Sundar in this movie.
Sarkar is biggest release for vijay in overseas. Early reports suggest that Sarkar will be released simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu in more than 1200 screens in almost 80 countries.
Sarkar is the first tamil movie to be released in Poland, Mexico,New Zealand, Ukraine and Russia.
