As expected, Smile 2 has gone straight to #1 at the North American box office this weekend with a $23 million opening. The movie received a B CinemaScore from audiences, an improvement over Smile's B- score.
One sequel that isn't making much of an impression, though, is Joker: Folie à Deux. The movie lost 1,245 theaters during its third weekend and is eyeing a disastrous $2 million - $2.5 million haul over the three-day frame following a laughable $665,000 Friday.
Now, the Joker follow-up sits at a dismal $54.9 million in the U.S.
Exhibitors have decided to instead rally around Deadpool & Wolverine. Yes, the movie is available on Digital and just days away from hitting DVD and Blu-ray, but it added an additional 535 theaters this weekend and grossed $185,000 on Friday.
With a predicted $500,000 - $700,000 haul during its thirteenth weekend, it looks set to pass Barbie's $636.2 million haul from last summer by close of business on Sunday.

Saturday Update: It looks like Smile 2 is going to open pretty much on par with the first film. Deadline is predicting that the horror sequel is going to gross somewhere around $22 million this weekend, which will bring it in just under the $22.6 million the original opened with. While only time will tell whether or not the sequel will have the legs the original did (it grossed over $200 million worldwide), the reviews for this are spot-on, and the opening is pretty much in line with our predictions.
Terrifier 3 is looking at about a 48% dip from the first weekend (good for a horror movie), but will likely get overtaken in second place by The Wild Robot, which is having great legs at the box office and should make $10.7 million this weekend, compared to Art the Clown’s $9.8 million. Further down the list, A24’s We Live in Time is overperforming,...

The horror movie Terrifier 3 has had an unexpected success at the box office, taking in nearly $30 million since its release on October 11th. This hit has gotten the attention of industry insiders due to the film’s unusual distribution and its smaller distributor Cineverse.
Cineverse, previously known as Cinedigm, has 179 employees and a value of $35 million. Despite its small size, the company has outperformed major studio movies with its release of Terrifier 3. The economic model behind the film is notable – Cineverse invested just $500,000 in marketing. It also took out a loan of up to $3.666 million to cover other costs of the release. This loan was approved based on the prior success of Terrifier 2 and the predicted popularity of the sequel.
Erick Opeka, President and Chief Strategy Officer at Cineverse, said the company takes a cautious approach. He warned against the overconfidence of other independent distributors after early success.

As Smile 2 takes over the top spot at the box office this weekend, it is starting to sink in across the industry that defending champ Terrifier 3 has already racked up almost $30 million since its October 11 debut.
After dealing an embarrassing blow to exponentially pricier rival Joker: Folie à Deux, the threequel’s economic model has put it on course to deliver a level of profit that is, well, terrifying. Cineverse, the film’s distributor, says it put just $500,000 into marketing and promotion for the release. Additional costs to acquire rights were covered by a loan of up to $3.666 million, which was collateralized by the breakout success of Terrifier 2 and the outlook for the latest installment. The lender will receive 15% of royalties once they come in across the full waterfall, up to a cap of about $6.4 million.
As to the final production budget, writer-director Damien Leone and producer...

This article contains mild spoilers for "Smile 2."
As I write this article, the third installment of the gore-laden "Terrifier" series is obliterating the competition at the box office, a win for independent film, extreme horror, and non-studio-owned IP everywhere. Lifelong horror fans are no strangers to films with the same levels of ultraviolence and blood-soaked mania on glorious display, but these scenes are overwhelmingly found in independent or underground horror movies. This isn't to say that studio-backed horror films are incapable of bringing the pain, but even looking at something as notoriously grisly as the "Saw" series, the graphic depictions are stylized. Shots of dismembered limbs or meat being torn from the bone are interspersed between adventurous camera movement, cleverly spaced reactions to the carnage, and juuuuust enough of the gruesome goodies to throw the audience's imagination into overdrive. It's taking a page out of Alfred Hitchcock's handbook...

The U.K. premiere of Damien Leone’s holiday slasher “Terrifier 3” was something straight out of a horror movie.
Eleven audience members walked out of the theater, nine during the opening scene, and one on-looker lost their lunch watching the latest escapades of series mascot Art the Clown, played by David Howard Thornton. While a screening like this would spell disaster for some, producer Phil Falcone celebrated the extreme reactions as testamate to the hard work of Leone and special effects lead Christien Tinsley.
“It’s a slasher gore film with practical effects,” Falcone said. “So if you’re getting people to vomit and leave the theater, and they went there for horror, that’s a pretty good job, I’d say.”
Leone’s latest installment sees the bloodthirsty harlequin spreading Christmas cheer and fear to “Terrifier” scream queen Siena Shaw (Lauren Lavera) and the rest of the Miles County residents.

Universal Pictures’ The Wild Robot is getting more box office profit recently due to a report claiming underaged teens were buying tickets for it only to sneak into Terrifier 3. The latter was released just last weekend and it has already made a good performance.

It could have been better, though, if the underaged people who allegedly watched the movie by paying for The Wild Robot actually purchased tickets for the horror film. Despite it being unrated, anyone below 17 is not allowed to enter unless accompanied by an adult.

Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 is heading into its second weekend of box office infamy against Paramount Pictures’ goliath Smile 2 and still looks to break even more records, possibly becoming the highest-grossing unrated movie of all time.
Outside of the viral nature of Terrifier 3, part of the film’s success is that the ultra slasher is connecting with both audiences and critics, as proven by the Rotten Tomatoes scores.
Entertainment journalist Erik Davis pointed out something extraordinary this week – Terrifier 3 is the first new horror movie to go both “Certified Fresh” and “Verified Hot” since the Verified Hot designation was launched back in August on Rotten Tomatoes.
As Slashfilm notes, this is significant because scoring a “Verified Hot” badge isn’t exactly easy: “The ‘Verified Hot’ badge is awarded to films that gain a Verified Audience Score of 90% or higher and have a minimum of 500+ Verified Ratings.

A new series has joined Prime Video and it may have fallen under the radar that needs to be seen! We’re talking about the quiet addition of The Edge of Sleep, now streaming on Prime Video
Need to know more about it? Here’s why we recommend it as the must-watch series this coming weekend. And don’t worry, there are absolutely no spoilers in this post!
For starters, The Edge of Sleep is coming to us just in time for spooky season. Sure, we may already be halfway through October, but this is when it gets good. We save the best for last right? The scariest movies, biggest thrills, and best parties are always towards the end of October. If you’re looking for a new horror to add to your list, this one is it! The horror series is only six episodes, so it’s a fun and quick watch.

One might define the current state of the world as the society of spectacle, with a circus or a carnival as the obvious metaphor. One profession comes to mind in particular in that regard: the clown. Like his colleagues, the clown is an attention-seeking creature, but devoid of the particular skills of, let’s say, animal trainer, fire-eater or a trapeze artist. As the audience, we can find him irritating, funny or scary. Coming from Damien Leone’s imagination, first for a collection of shorts and then for a franchise-in-progress called Terrifier, Art the Clown is of the lattermost kind. His scariness probably tops the competition of the horror-fictional characters, including Stephen King’s Pennywise.
Terrifier is certainly a story of success in film creation and entrepreneurship. Its beginning with the first Terrifier feature (2016) was very modest in the senses of budget (around $50.000) and story – which was as bare-bones as they.

"Terrifier 3" spoilers follow.
No one goes to a slasher flick looking for a deathly serious drama about an unstoppable killing machine who offs their victims in wildly inventive fashion. The point of every slasher movie that sprung up in the wake of trailblazers like "Psycho," "Black Christmas" and "Halloween" is to give fright-seeking viewers a Grand Guignol good time at the movies. Granted, some slashers can blend serious themes into their stalk-and-kill-a-thon structures (Joseph Zito's "The Prowler" offers up tough commentary about America's post-war treatment of its veterans), but those movies know to lighten up when it comes to delivering the splatter.
This is a lesson filmmaker Damien Leone has learned well. The twisted creator of the "Terrifier" franchise and its greasepaint-slathered antagonist Art the Clown grew up a fan of slashers, and knows full well what sickos like him are looking for out of the genre. They...

October has had its ups and downs at the box office. We recently saw director Damien Leone's ultra-bloody, unrated slasher "Terrifier 3" unexpectedly top the charts. However, theaters have also had to contend with the utter failure of "Joker: Folie a Deux," a film that was expected to be one of the biggest hits of the fall season. Instead, it may go down as the biggest flop of the year. So, can another comic book character swoop in to save the day? Sony's "Venom: The Last Dance" has the opportunity to do precisely that, as Tom Hardy's third go-around as Eddie Brock looks to deliver a big opening weekend.
The third solo "Venom" film is currently looking to top the charts next weekend with an opening weekend in the $70 million range, per tracking (via Deadline). There is at least a chance that number is on the conservative end of things,...

After the jaw-dropping $18.8 million start for Bloody Disgusting’s “Terrifier 3” and the continued legs of Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” there’s a clear appetite among moviegoers for horror in all of its forms this Halloween season. That will be tested further this weekend with the arrival of Paramount’s “Smile 2,” which could open around $22 million or higher — unless “Terrifier 3” pushes it aside.
Two years ago, “Smile,” the feature debut of director Parker Finn, premiered at Fantastic Fest to enthusiastic praise and became a fresh horror hit for Paramount with $217 million grossed worldwide against a $17 million budget. Its success earned Finn a first-look deal with the studio, and now he’s back with a sequel that continues plot threads left behind by the first film while following Naomi Scott’s pop star as its new doomed protagonist.

Last year, when Damien Leone made the announcement that Art the Clown would be getting a Christmas-themed sequel releasing October 2024, I’m not sure any of us expected it to dethrone the Clown Prince of Crime at the box office. But that’s exactly what happened and now the franchise seems to be positioned to give horror fans everything they’ve ever wanted. By avoiding studio dollars, Leone’s vision is uncompromising. This means gore, gore, gore! But it also means a relationship built with fans where, by giving them something truly shocking, Terrifier is in a place that no horror film has been in decades: one of complete creative freedom. Which makes the future of the series more tantalizing than ever.
When I spoke to Damien last year for the Terrifier 2, he was antsy about a certain kill in 3. So now that we’re speaking again, I made sure...

After a surprising takeover at the box office last weekend by the scrappy Terrifier 3, expect horror to once again rule the roost. Parker Finn’s eagerly anticipated horror sequel, Smile 2, is set to dominate the weekend box office, but despite some great reviews (including ours), the outlook for the movie is surprisingly middling.
The original Smile is one of the biggest success stories to emerge from the pandemic. Originally shot as a low-budget horror movie for Paramount Plus, the studio execs noticed how strong test screenings were. With the marketable smile gimmick, they gave it a theatrical release, and it ended up making over $200 million worldwide. The original film opened with $22.6 million, but despite being an even better movie than the original, the sequel likely won’t open quite as strongly.

The Terrifier franchise has taken the horror genre by storm, and its latest installment, Terrifier 3, is proving to be a hit at the box office. The film, featuring David Howard Thornton’s return as the sadistic Art the Clown, earned an impressive $18.3 million during its debut weekend, securing the top spot in North America. The movie’s success, combined with positive audience reactions, has sparked fresh interest in the franchise’s future—and a likely continuation with Terrifier 4.

"Joker: Folie a Deux" may have just proven that even big-budget movies won't always top the box office when they have terrible reviews and little love from fans, but apparently the streaming world is still operating on a different level. For nearly three weeks now, the Shailene Woodley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt led film "Killer Heat" has been topping the Amazon Prime movies chart (per FlixPatrol), despite earning an abysmal 15% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It may just be a sparse season for new releases on Prime Video, but given that one of the year's best films, Luca Guadagnino's sexy tennis drama "Challengers," is currently at number six on the most-streamed Prime Video films list, something about "Killer Heat" is clearly appealing to subscribers. The movie, which bypassed theaters and was released directly to Prime, tops a list that as of publication time also includes several kids' films, including John Krasinski's 2024 release "If,...

Violent low-budget slasher sequel dethroned Joker 2 at US box office and gave the industry insight into what audiences are looking for at this strange moment
Conventional wisdom may dictate that you need a guy dressed up as a bat to properly defeat the Joker. But this past weekend, the indie distributor Cineverse fought fire with fire – or fought one deadly clown with another, as Terrifier 3 knocked the ill-regarded Joker sequel out of the top spot at the box office. Sneaking into a movie is a time honored tradition, one that must be as old as cinema itself. It continues with the unrated Terrifier 3, which isn't hurting for those extra ticket sales; it's currently the number-one movie in America. Instead, Terrifier is sharing the wealth: according to distribution sources for The Hollywood Reporter,...

Terrifier 3 smashed box office expectations past weekend, a huge win for indie horror, fans of the Terrifier series, and, of course, everyone who has worked so hard over the last 10+ years to create the Terrifier films. I remember first interviewing Damien Leone when All Hallow's Eve was released, and it's been incredible to see the journey that he and Art the Clown have taken over the years.
Now that horror fans around the world have had a chance to see the film, I wanted to share my recent conversation with Lauren Lavera, who joined me as a special guest on our Corpse Club podcast. Lauren and her character, Sienna, have also had an incredible journey over the course of Terrifier 2 and 3, and we discuss her experience on set, the future of Terrifier, her martial arts background, fan interactions, favorite horror films, and more!

You might think Damien Leone would run out of ways to depict bodies being absolutely eviscerated. But the director has proven with "Terrifier 3," one of the nastiest horror movies ever made, that his mind is an endless font of murderous ingenuity. The threequel treats audiences to a cornucopia of bloody viscera, depicting Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton)'s latest homicidal rampage in such stark detail that "Terrifier 3" reportedly had people fleeing the theater and even throwing up during its opening scene.
Whatever you think of such unmitigated violence, the fact that Leone managed to accomplish his goal of topping the barbarity of "Terrifier 2" is, in its own way, impressive. The director has spoken about setting out to make slasher movies that Hollywood studios would never produce, and the fact he's managed to top each film in the "Terrifier" saga with subsequent entries and make a surprising...

After a weekend that saw low-budget slasher film “Terrifier 3” scare its way to box office success, the horror film “Stream,” made by much of the same creative team, is coming out to video on-demand.
“Today ‘Stream’ is making its way to all audiences with a much wider digital release on VOD streaming platforms,” director and co-writer Michael Leavy said in a statement. “The reviews have been incredibly humbling and we are so excited to give our loyal fans the ultimate experience! After seeing ‘Terrifier 3’ in theaters they now have the chance to continue to fill that gore love right away and get more from our team and Damien Leone in having the chance to see ‘Stream’ from the comfort of their own home, before going back to see ‘Terrifier 3’ again in theaters of course.”

At the world premiere of the recently released Terrifier 3, franchise writer/director Damien Leone said there will be a Terrifier 4 – and he later said he thinks that will be the last entry in the franchise, because he doesn’t want it to wear out his welcome. But during new interviews with Variety and Coming Soon, Leone has admitted that, if he has trouble fitting the remaining story he has in mind into a reasonable running time, he might need to make Terrifier 5 to properly wrap things up… and even then, there’s always the chance Art the Clown could return again down the line, just like his fellow slashers Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees always do.
Speaking with Coming Soon, Leone said, “No, so when I wrote part 2, I knew what the end of this franchise was. So, then it just became a matter of, ‘Well, how many...

The clown everyone’s been dreading is back, and this time, he’s more sinister than ever. Terrifier 3 has just carved its way through box office records, becoming Signature Entertainment’s biggest-ever UK and Irish opening. Over its debut weekend, Damien Leone’s latest installment in the brutal Terrifier series raked in an impressive £1,049,000. This figure obliterated Signature’s previous record, held by Orphan: First Kill, which grossed £464,616 in its 2022 opening.
Terrifier 3, which marks the UK and Ireland debut of the third chapter in Leone’s blood-soaked saga, once again follows the harrowing journey of Sienna (Lauren Lavera). Haunted by disturbing visions and the lingering trauma of her previous encounter with the malevolent Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton), Sienna must confront her darkest fears as she realises there’s no escaping the nightmare Art has wrought. With Todd Phillips' experimental DC sequel Joker: Folie À Deux going a little bit *wah wah wahhh* at the box office this past fortnight, another killer clown has risen to the top of the pile. After growing a passionate core fanbase with two increasingly shocking, low-budget outings, Art the Clown has been galling and enthralling the masses in Damien Leone's cut-throat (and hack-off-head) threequel Terrifier 3, cruising to a cool $18 million in its opening weekend on a $2 million budget. Now, in an interview with DiscussingFilm, Leone has revealed his future plans for David Howard Thornton's jugular-busting jester.
When asked whether he sees Terrifier piling up the sequels and eventually going full-Jason X with spacefaring follow-ups for Art and final girl Sienna Shaw (Lauren Lavera), Thornton was quick to shoot down the idea of his unholy terror outstaying its welcome. Terrifier 4 is a given – but Damien Leone has a final plan for Art the Clown, as he plots an ending for the psychotic character.
It’s been a case of champagne corks among the blood and guts where the Terrifier franchise is concerned. Over the weekend, writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 soared to the top of the US box office, the $3m-budgeted picture landing $14.1m in takings. It’s the kind of franchise that Hollywood studios resist, but might be wishing they didn’t.
Still, the keys to the saga, and the character arc of Art the Clown, are in the hands of Damien Leone, and he’d already been talking up plans for Terrifier 4 ahead of the release of his new film. Now though, in a chat with Variety, he’s revealed that he has an ending in sight for Art the Clown, and likely the saga entirely.

This article contains spoilers for "Terrifier 3."
The longer a horror franchise goes, the more lore needs to be developed, almost by default. After all, how else to explain why and how a series' central villain/spirit/killer keeps coming back to pester the living? While some franchises have enough lore baked into the premise of the series and characters right from the get-go so as not to need too much elaboration — the Cenobites are called from Hell by the Lament Configuration, Charles Lee Ray is into voodoo resurrection, etc. — others find themselves having to pile new facets onto the characters to try and explain why this struggle of Good vs. Evil is continual. This latter group tends to contain most of the slasher franchises, as series like "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th" eventually find themselves either embracing explicitly supernatural ideas or having to shed continuity and start over.

Art the Clown may go on his final killing spree in “Terrifier 4.”

The latest installment in the "Terrifier" series bodes well for the franchise, as Damien Leone's unhinged slasher continues to break boundaries. In case you haven't heard, "Terrifier 3" absolutely killed it at the box office, raking in $18.3 million during its opening weekend and beating the lamentable box office flop that was "Joker: Folie a Deux" along the way to become the number one movie in America. Considering that the previous installment, "Terrifier 2," made $15.7 million during its entire run, that's an impressive debut for "Terrifier 3," dubbed one of the nastiest horror movies ever made by /Film's own Jacob Hall.
How could a movie that is just wall-to-wall depravity fare so well? A lot of it has to do with word-of-mouth, with audiences seemingly keen to test their mettle against a film that was already notorious before it was officially released. "Terrifier 3" apparently caused walkouts during the first...

There’s a new clown prince at the domestic box office, and his name is Art the Clown.
Terrifier 3 star David Howard Thornton is remarkably upbeat for the performer behind the sickest, most demented on-screen gags in recent memory, and that was before Damien Leone’s $2 million-budgeted threequel toppled Joker: Folie à deux at this past weekend’s ticket booth with $18.9 million. This turn of events is somewhat poetic since the Joker is Thornton’s favorite villain of all time, and he even played him in a fan-produced YouTube series before Terrifier became more widely available in early 2018.
Whether it’s chainsawing a college kid in half or tube-feeding live rats to an undeserving victim, only the latter exploit in Terrifier 3 has triggered Thornton during filming, but he persisted nonetheless, opting not to bring in his double.

In what might be the craziest box office story of the year, Bloody Disgusting and Cineverse's "Terrifer 3" has triumphed against all odds, becoming the number one movie in the country. Just a few weeks ago, this would have been unthinkable, if not laughable. But this is no laughing matter as Damien Leone's ultra-gory, underrated slasher film has cemented Art the Clown as a modern slasher icon, while becoming instantly profitable for all involved.
"Terrifier 3" opened to an estimated $18.3 million over the weekend, easily taking the top spot on the charts. That means it made more in one weekend than "Terrifier 2" ($15 million) did during its entire run in 2022. What's more, the film only played on 2,514 screens, far less than the 3,000 or more we typically see for a number one film. That means it had a stellar per-screen average north of $7,000. Terrifier 3 isn’t clowning around. The slasher pic is easily winning a weekend of curiosity and carnage at the domestic box office, where Joker: Folie à Deux is suffering the worst decline in history for a comic book movie and one of the biggest among any film.
Cineverse and Icon Events’ Terrifier threequel opened ahead of expectations for Chris McGurk’s new venture with an estimated $18.9 million from 2,514 theaters, according to final numbers. That’s up from Sunday’s estimate of $18.3 million, a tidy sum for an unrated film that cost $2 million to produce.
The next closest film is The Wild Robot, which continued to shine for DreamWorks Animation and Universal. Now in its third weekend, the family pic eared another $14 million from 3,854 cinemas — up from Sunday’s estimated $13.4 million — for a domestic cume of $84.3 million. It also pulled in another $24 million overseas to beat Joker and push its global haul to $149.5 million.

When it comes to Halloween slashers, John Carpenter’s Halloween still reigns supreme all these years later. Not only did it launch an enduring franchise, but it inspired a slasher craze. Of course, it’s far from the only slasher movie set around our favorite holiday.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to Halloween slashers beyond the Halloween franchise that similarly bring the carnage and holiday spirit in equal measure.
These slashers unleash buckets of blood (and then some), using Halloween as a stunning backdrop for the mayhem, from pumpkins galore to haunt attractions from hell.

The first film in writer/director Damien Leone’s Terrifier franchise had a running time of 85 minutes, which I feel is just about perfect for a slasher movie. Then Leone went wild on Terrifier 2, letting it go on for 138 minutes… which a lot of viewers didn’t mind, while others (like me) thought was painfully excessive. So when he was working on the recently released Terrifier 3, he promised this one would be shorter. And it is, slightly. Terrifier 3 has a running time of 125 minutes – and during an interview with Coming Soon, Leone took a moment to defend the length of the Art the Clown sequels.
When he was asked about running time complaints and lessons learned while making these movies, Leone said, “I’m happy with what Terrifier 2 is. I’m happy with the length of it, but what wasn’t working for a lot of people was the length.

Indie cinema has two new bloodsoaked champions, and their names are Damien Leone and Art the Clown.
This weekend, the Christmas-themed horror threequel “Terrifier 3,” beat out the strong third weekend of Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” and the historically poor second weekend of Warner Bros.’ “Joker: Folie a Deux” to take the No. 1 spot at the box office with an $18.3 million opening weekend from 2,516 theaters.
It’s the fourth-highest opening weekend for a horror film this year, topping movies like Universal/Blumhouse’s “Speak No Evil” and “Night Swim” as well as Lionsgate’s “Never Let Go” and “The Strangers — Chapter 1.”
It’s a weekend that has floored Chris McGurk, CEO of the company that distributed “Terrifier 3,” Cineverse. Manfred Mann’s 1968 hit single “Ha! Ha! Said the Clown” synthesizes theaters this weekend as “Terrifier 3” (Iconic/Cineverse) easily took the top spot. “Has the king lost his crown?” the second verse goes. Well, yes he did, and more, as “Joker: Folie à Deux” (Warner Bros.) fell 81 percent and likely to fourth place.
“Terrifier” is the third entry in the microbudget unrated horror series. With a $5 million budget (including marketing), it more than doubled what was anticipated as an already-decent $8 million opening. Positioned perfectly before Halloween, ahead of “Smile 2” (Paramount) next week, it built on its growing fandom and a smart social media campaign.
With an audience that reportedly is almost half Latino, “Terrifier 3” saved a bad weekend from being even worse. It’s an impressive achievement, all the more so without an MPA rating, and it could reach $50 million.
The caveat is we’ve got $18.3 million...

Terrifier 3 is the No. 1 movie in America! To celebrate, Art went to Spirit Halloween!
After swinging through Spencer’s earlier in the day, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) kept his shopping spree alive by terrifying patrons at his local Spirit Halloween. If you couldn’t tell by his grin, the world’s favorite movie maniac was delighted to see his face in so many places. Having said that, he wasn’t going to let an animatronic do his bidding.
Watch below and find your local Spirit Halloween to get all your Terrifier needs.
This video was directed and edited by Curtis Matzke in cooperation with Spirit Halloween.
In Terrifier 3, directed once again by Damien Leone, Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is set to unleash another round of chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve.

There’s only room for one killer clown at the top of box office charts.
“Terrifier 3” slashed its way to No. 1 in North America, collecting a stellar $18.3 million from 2,514 theaters in its opening weekend. It’s a huge start for the ultra-gory, independently made, low-budget slasher film about a demonic clown who brutalizes a small town.
Meanwhile “Joker: Folie á Deux,” which topped the box office last weekend, collapsed in third place with $7.055 million from 4,102 theaters. It could end up in fourth place, behind holdover “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” once the final numbers are tallied on Monday. The off-beat comic book musical, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a reclusive stand-up comedian and part-time clown, suffered a tragic 82% decline in ticket sales from its already disastrous $37.6 million debut. It ranks as one of the biggest-second weekend drops for the superhero genre, plunging more severely than last year’s misfires of “The Marvels” (78.1%), “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania...

Talk about a perfect storm.
I still can’t believe I’m sitting here writing an article about how our little slasher movie is the number one film in the entire country.
Yes, it’s true. Terrifier 3 beat all the odds by defeating not only the criminally overly-panned Joker: Folie à Deux but also the modern animated cinematic marvel The Wild Robot.
According to early estimates, Damien Leone‘s Terrifier 3 is estimated to have pulled in $18.2M over the weekend (actuals come in tomorrow), easily taking the top spot at this weekend’s box office.
There was an insane momentum shift when Joker took a critical and fan beating, resulting in a horrific opening and monumental dropoff. This was fueled by a loss of showings, many of which shifted over to Terrifier 3.
Related, critics were mostly supportive of Terrifier 3, propelling the third film to a 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes,...

Sunday Am Final: In one of the year’s second-best triumphs for indie genre cinema after Neon’s Longlegs, Cineverse’s under $5M investment, Terrifier 3, is screaming to an estimated $18.3M+ 3-day after an $8.2M Friday, $5.9M Saturday and $4.2M Sunday. That Sunday hold -30% is on account of the Indigenous Peoples holiday. The threequel received a B CinemaScore, which is high praise from the moviegoer pollster as it doesn’t hand out a lot of As to horror titles.
The jaw dropping awe is how this movie, which was largely marketed to Cineverse’s sole Bloody Disgusting fanbase and 80M streaming subscribers across 30 channels for under $1M, broke out to bigger numbers. Unlike some of the other wide entries this weekend, iSpot doesn’t show any national spots for Terrifier 3.
