When it comes to breathing new life into true crime this year, the ID Channel has brought audiences increasingly ambitious episodes of returning favorites like “Evil Lives Here,” new programs like “Deadly Influence: The Social Media Murders,” and specials like “Quiet on Set.”
The network pushes the boundaries of the genre even further with the Michael Bay-produced “Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior,” a limited series entirely devoted to killer Hadden Clark. Clark’s name isn’t very familiar even to committed true crime aficionados, and that’s probably because his story is so vast, complex, and frankly insane. Thankfully, Bay has come along to sort it all out for us in an original style that befits such a singular story — and points a possible way forward for the true-crime docuseries format.

Those viewers spanned ID, Max and discovery+. The five-part series premiered last Monday on Sept. 2.
“Born Evil” follows the complicated and dysfunctional family of Hadden Clark, a serial killer most people have never heard of. It also details the alleged confessions Clark made to his cellmate, whom he believed was “Jesus.” Those very confessions sent investigators on a search to solve a series of cold cases that were linked to him.
Ultimately, Clark was only convicted on two murders, those of 6-year-old Michele Lee Dorr in 1986 and 23-year-old Laura Houghteling in 1992. Both were killed by a knife and buried. Due to those cases,...

While we typically associate Michael Bay with over-the-top explosions and slick action, the director has done something a little different for his next project: interview an actual serial killer. Michael Bay is the executive producer of Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior, an upcoming docuseries set to premiere on ID next month. You can check out a trailer for the series above.
Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior focuses on Hadden Clark, a lesser-known serial killer who is serving two 30-year sentences for two murders, although he later confessed to dozens more. The series also includes interviews with Jack Truitt, a former cellmate who Clark believed to be Jesus. Michael Bay conducted private, recorded conversations with Clark, and while we don’t hear much from Bay in the trailer, it’s some pretty unsettling stuff.
