At first it seemed like Thappana (2012), but then I realized the picture is something else & bigger. DSC is a cocoon of ample funny moments, fine plot points, vivid setup, exotic location, melodrama & of course, cliché.
And by cliché, I mean the characters & their portrayals. Mammootty is at it again, flaunting his glamorous air with long hair, heavy beard & buffed up adorable anti-hero nature. He is who drives the plot ahead with witty twists & dramatic sequences eventually metamorphosing into someone who everybody (in the film) respects & loves. Watching him in a new avatar felt good, just like it did watching Sooraaj Venjaramoodu in a revamped demeanor sans his vulgar double-meaning remarks. Supporting cast is great who automatically improvise to deliver humor.
Plot is a mixture of fiction, reality & divinity. The characters getting ready for a play on Jesus & his story is a good show to watch. Little bit of romance among the characters, funny adult fool-plays, slapstick & high-octane action give a master look to the rather religious plot. Siddique, Tesnikhan & Vijay Raghavan are equally good.
Only that the second half starts off with a flashback and that kinda troubled me. Honey Rose enters the scene deeply and comes as a twist. The drama that follows ends up gradually to be an extravaganza. The climax is a real treat to the audience, theists & atheists alike.
BOTTOM LINE: Recommended! At least it doesn't turn you off. An enjoyable flick worth watching with friends & family.
