This exciting flick contains locked-room mysteries , emotional thrills , action and suspense . Madrid , present-day , an American high-powered businessman called Robert (Ben Temple) hires an escort service on-line ; after making love they go on communicating themselves via their laptop . The beautiful whore called Sara (Esther Méndez) has a baby whom cares cautiously . But then in her flat appears the brothers Boris (Yon González) and Diego (Aitor Luna) attempting to take her baby , and subsequently their mother (Luisa Martin) and things go wrong . As soon the executive Robert has the opportunity to spy on that dangerous place full of delinquents and finds himself pulled into a twisted issue while he is watching the happenings by Webcam .
Techno-thriller with an original and ingeniously basic premise full of suspense and intrigue . This is a highly mysterious and cerebral thriller , filled with plot twists , including an unexpected denouement in its final part . Antonio Hernández's Matar El Tiempo opens on an extremely promising note plenty of twists , turns and surprises . This is a Techno-thriller that addresses questions of life , computers , organs-traffic and violence . The original as well entertaining premise is overspread across the movie adding some brief conventional pitfalls . Spanish production succeeds because of the thriller , tension , Kafkaesque suspense , as well as an interestingly written script by Antonio Hernández concerning a complex intrigue in which our protagonists are in such extreme situation and their subsequent instinctive urges for survival . This laptop-set thriller deals with a deadly game of cat-and-mouse in which a video camera capture everything , and the internet has turned into a cesspool of surveillance . We immediately see that the story is going to be told from some unorthodox perspectives as each scene is broadcast through the screen on a computer monitor . Despite its average budget the picture manages to be intelligent , intriguing and thrilling but also a little bit boring and hard to follow , at times . The good thing about this film is that the director made it on a limited budget only having to do a few sets , yet the movie works on many levels but is constantly reconfigured , though a little claustrophobic . In spite of being technically a "Techno thriller" , the film nods at everything from a technological world to Hitchcock to Giallo . The final result is an offbeat thriller that's captivating , in spite of not being all that fun or especially thoughtful , neither thought-provoking . Main protagonists , Ben Temple and Esther Méndez in his film debut , give acceptable interpretations . Support cast is pretty good , such as the real life brothers Yon González and Aitor Luna , and Luisa Martin .
This Hitchcock style psychological thriller was well directed by Antonio Hernandez . Antonio is a good craftsman , writer , producer and occasionally actor . Antonio Hernández -whose first film , 1979's F.E.N., is one of those never praised enough hidden masterpieces of Spanish cinema- is expert on all kind of genres , such as comedy : ¨Apaga y Vamonos¨ , ¨Como Levantar 1000 Kilos¨ , ¨Menor de Males¨ , Historical¨: ¨Los Borgia¨ , and Thriller : ¨Oculto¨ , ¨Lisboa¨ , ¨The city of no limits¨ in which Antonio proves to be a very courageous auteur . And he also directs TV series such as ¨Tarancon¨ , ¨Sofia¨ and ¨Dias sin Luz¨ .
