- Max Rosenbaum: [in letter to Zev] We are the last living survivors from our prison block. Besides me, you are the only person who could still recognize the man who killed our families.

- [extends hand]
- Zev Gutman: [shakes hand] Nice to meet you, Tyler. My name is Zev.
- Tyler: That's a strange name.
- Zev Gutman: In Hebrew, it means wolf.
- Tyler: Cool.
- Zev Gutman: [after Molly reads Max's letter] You did a very good job.
- Molly: Thanks. Who's Ruth?
- Zev Gutman: My wife.
- Molly: I thought she was bringing me candy.
- Zev Gutman: [dejected] I thought so too.
- Max Rosenbaum: Do you remember what you said you would do when Ruth died?
- Zev Gutman: [pauses] No.
- Max Rosenbaum: That's okay, it's okay. I wrote everything down so you could remember.
- Max's Great Grandaughter: Did you meet Nanna in Germany?
- Zev Gutman: [distracted] Uh, no, no, I met her in America. I met her at Coney

- Zev Gutman: ... Coney Island.
- Tyler: Are you going to Cleveland too?
- Zev Gutman: [in German] Ja.
- Tyler: Why don't you fly? It's faster.
- Zev Gutman: I don't know.
- [laughs]
- Tyler: [smiles] That's not a good reason.
- Zev Gutman: [laughs] You're a real whipperschnapper aren't you?
- [first lines]
- Zev Gutman: [waking up] Ruth? Ruth?
- Zev Gutman: [emerging from his room] Where's my wife?
- Paula: Mr. Guttman! You can't be sneaking up on me like that!
- Zev Gutman: Where is my wife? Where is Ruth?
- Paula: I'm sorry, Mr. Guttman, your wife passed away about a week ago.
- Zev Gutman: Ah.
- [sitting down]
- Zev Gutman: Oh. I'm sorry. Who are you?
- Paula: My name's Paula. I was Mrs. Guttman's nursing aide. Your family asked me to stay on for another week or two. Let's get some breakfast. You'll be feeling better after breakfast.

- John Kurlander: Are you kidding me? He never stopped talking about Germany.
- Zev Gutman: Did he ever speak to you about the war?
