The Wild Robot Box Office (North America): Set To Surpass A Quiet Place: Day One ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
The Wild Robot, helmed by Chris Sanders and featuring Lupita Nyong’o in the leading voice role, is one of the most lauded animated features of the year. It is holding its place strongly at the domestic and worldwide box office and is now close to beating Lupita’s A Quiet Place: Day One’s domestic haul. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Lupita is an exceptional actress who has won multiple accolades, including an Oscar and a Daytime Emmy Award. She is also versatile and does not shy away from experimenting with different genres of movies. Her A Quiet Place: Day One was released earlier this year and is considered a box-office success. The horror flick is part of the A Quiet Place franchise and features Joseph Quinn in the lead role alongside the Black Panther star.

It’s beginning to look a lot like $30 million for the opening weekend of Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ mega-budget Christmas actioner “Red One,” coming in on the shorter side of projections. The Amazon MGM Studios feature unwrapped $10.9 million from 4,032 theaters across opening day and preview screenings in North America.
That’s not exactly a jolly result for a special-effects adventure playing premium large format auditoriums and sporting a whopping $250 million production budget, plus sizable marketing costs. Unless the Seven Bucks production can stay relevant among the blitz of “Wicked,” “Gladiator II” and “Moana 2” arriving ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, it seems unlikely that “Red One” will see green in its theatrical run.
The question remains of how much Amazon really cares about being associated with lukewarm theatrical returns, what with the market cap north of $2 trillion and all. The cost of “Red One” doesn’t seem as daunting in that context.

The movie year 2024 got a jolt of life over the summer with the arrivals of rousing franchise fare from “Inside Out 2” to “A Quiet Place: Day One” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” But there’s also been much to celebrate on the front of original releases, from the Neon-record-breaking “Longlegs” over the summer to “The Substance” holding steady in theaters as Mubi’s widest release ever this fall, and the practical-effects-heavy slasher “Terrifier 3” outdoing the sequel “Joker: Folie á Deux” in the case of one of the wildest studio flops of the century. Later, critics came to the rescue of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2,” all but dumped by Warner Bros. Discovery.

John Krasinski has joined elite club.
Or, to be more accurate perhaps, let us rephrase:
John Krasinski has joined scalding hot and handsome club.
Yes, the Office actor has been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2024. But the big question is – do you agree?!

How did the actor feel about learning about the honor?
“Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts,” Krasinski told People for their cover story. “Other than maybe I’m being punked. That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’
“And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.

It's a day ending in 'y', so you know what that means — another acting heavyweight has boarded the next Christopher Nolan movie! Since the Oscar winning Oppenheimer director set his latest project at Universal just last month, a flurry of exciting names have been added to the call sheet of what's already shaping up to be quite the blockbuster event for summer 2026. First there was Matt Damon, then everyone's favourite friendly neighbourhood Tom Holland signed up for a lead role — and just last week, Zendaya and Anne Hathaway entered the fray, too. Now, per THR's reporting, it looks like A Quiet Place: Day One star Lupita Nyong'o has just become the newest addition to the movie's increasingly starry ensemble.
Technically, we had an idea Nyong'o may have been lining up a part in Nolan's 13th film, as Deadline had included her name in social media posts following Hathaway and Zendaya's casting before hastily retracting.

In an act of sheer chaos, People has declared John Krasinski as the “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2024 — a title that would have been far more fitting for the actor a decade ago at the height of The Office.
Even Krasinski himself admitted in the magazine’s cover story, released at midnight, that he thought he was “being punked.” “That’s not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’” he told People. “And yet it was the day you guys did it.

Christopher Nolan can get just about any and every A-lister he wants in his movies at this point in his career, and the latest to join his new film is another mega star and Oscar-winner: Lupita Nyong’o.

No word on who she’s playing or anything about what the film is actually supposed to be, but we’ll update once we know more.
Universal Pictures, which is distributing the film but has yet to confirm it themselves, had no comment.
Nolan’s follow-up to “Oppenheimer,” his 13th feature, will begin shooting in early 2025. Nolan is writing, directing, and producing, and his partner Emma Thomas is also producing via their Syncopy banner.

Lupita Nyong’o is the latest A-lister to join Christopher Nolan’s much-ballyhooed and much-shrouded feature film project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount Global posted mixed third quarter financial numbers as its TV and film divisions dipped, but bosses are pointing to solid subscription growth and profits at Paramount+ and cost reductions as signs their plan is “working.”
Revenues for Q3 were $6.73 billion, down 6% year-on-year, but adjusted earnings per share were up 63% at 49 cents, outperforming expectations. Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast had called for earnings of 24 cents a share, down from 30 cents in the year-ago period, with revenue declining to $6.95 billion from $7.13 billion. Adjusted Oibda was up 20% at $858 million.
Direct-to-consumer revenue was a particular high spot, up 10%, with Paramount+ adding 3.5 million subscribers to push its total up to 72 million and solidify its spot as the fourth-largest global SVOD streamer. Revenue was up 10% to $1.86 billion and adjusted earnings swung from a $238 million loss in the third quarter of 2023 to a $49 million profit — marking the second quarter in a row Dtc has made money for Paramount,...

Paramount Global reported its third-quarter financial results and latest streaming updates, including a swing to a streaming profit from a year-ago loss, on Friday in the Hollywood conglomerate’s second earnings report since its sale to Skydance Media was unveiled.
That marked the second quarter of streaming unit profitability in a row, though CFO Naveen Chopra during a morning analyst conference call forecast the timing of content and marketing expenditures would produce a loss for the streaming business during the current fourth quarter, even as domestic profitability for its Paramount+ streaming platform in full-year 2025 was expected.

To say the least, Berry’s performance as Munroe has been so iconic that finding a replacement for her turned out to be brutally tough. That was until Lupita Nyong’o recently underwent one of the best transformations of her life as she channeled her inner Munroe for Halloween. If anything, this transition is so good that even Kevin Feige might beat himself up over it!

The end is closer than originally thought for Netflix tentpole Stranger Things from the Duffer Brothers.
The fifth and final season of the show has been in the works ever since Part 2 of Season 4 arrived in July 2022, with the writers room for the next season opening August that year. A pandemic delaying Season 4’s arrival and then dual Hollywood strikes pushed Season 5 further than originally planned.
Find everything we know about Stranger Things Season 5 below.
When will Stranger Things Season 5 come out?
As of November 6, 2024, Netflix revealed that the final installment of the show looks to a 2025 release window, not 2026 like previously thought with how long production takes.
Production reached the halfway point in July after kicking off in January 2024.

The Wild Robot Box Office (Worldwide): Beats A Quiet Place: Day One’s Global Haul( Photo Credit – YouTube )
The Wild Robot by Dreamworks Animations is surpassing milestone after milestone. It has now reached yet another significant mark worldwide. The movie also continues its stronghold at the domestic box office in North America. The film keeps earning good fortunes and has beaten A Quiet Place: Day One’s global haul. Scroll below for the deets.
Interestingly, both the movies have been headlined by Lupita Nyong’o. A Quiet Place: Day One was released earlier this year and is a spin-off/prequel in the A Quiet Place film franchise. Only Djimon Hounsou reprised his role from A Quiet Place Part II. The movie was made on an estimated budget of $67 million, a few million less than the cost of Chris Sanders’ film. The sci-fi alien invasion movie earned around 3.9 times the production budget.

If there’s any genre in film that it’s easy to be a snob about, it’s horror.
I try really hard not to be, but it’s a challenge.
With decades of incredible films shaping my expectations, it’s sometimes difficult to love new movies in this niche.

And look, I’ve accepted that I’ll never get to experience watching The Exorcist for the first time again.
But over time, it got more and more difficult to find horror films that could truly rattle me.
And yet … I curated this list because 2024 has blown me away with its horror offerings.

Lupita Nyong’o had to lose her Kenyan accent in order to become an American actor and take on different Hollywood roles, and she said during a recent episode of the “What Now? With Trevor Noah” podcast that it “felt like a betrayal” to herself when she made that decision. The Oscar winner was born in Mexico but spent her childhood in Kenya. She attended Yale School of Drama in the U.S. before breaking big in Hollywood.
“The first permission I gave myself to change my accent or allow my accent to transform was going to drama school,” Nyong’o said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I went to drama school because I didn’t want to just be an instinctive actor. I wanted to understand my instrument. I wanted to know what I was good at, what I was not good at, and work on the things that I wasn’t good at.

"So, you're familiar with two sins. How about a third?" Okay, that particular "Community" quote is a bit of an ominous way to start an article, but it also felt less hacky than writing "Third time's the charm?" Indeed, Marvel is now in the process of bringing its first family back to the big screen with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," which marks the Four's third live-action iteration after Fox and director Tim Story's two "Fantastic Four" films and the studio's Josh Trank-helmed disaster "FANT4STIC" aka "Fantastic Four" 2015. The bar being as low as it is after the previous entries in the franchise, that puts just a tad less pressure on "First Steps" director Matt Shakman as the "WandaVision" veteran prepares to introduce Mister Fantastic and the rest of the gang to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Still, the film's eyebrow-raising subtitle aside, what does "First Steps" have to...

Screen has learned that Paramount Pictures has struck a theatrical distribution and marketing partnership with Sony Pictures International in Germany.
The move comes as Paramount is letting go of its theatrical distribution and marketing team in the territory as parent Paramount Global cuts costs, amid wider belt-tightening across Hollywood.
The Paramount territory office will remain operational and houses the home entertainment and global content distribution teams. The size of the theatrical distribution and marketing team impacted was unclear at time of writing.

The Oscar for Best Visual Effects is particularly tough to predict because of the complicated system by which the nominees are determined in three stages. The members of the executive committee of the branch cast preferential ballots to determine 20 films for further consideration. These are then winnowed down to 10 semi-finalists, which will be announced on December 17, 2024. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Visual Effects.)
All members of the branch are invited to a virtual screening of excerpts from these 10 films in January at which potential nominees may discuss their work. Ballots are counted using a system of re-weighted range voting to determine the five nominees, which will be revealed on January 17. The entire voting membership of the academy will then vote for the winners, which will be revealed during the 97th Academy Awards ceremony on March 2.

The motion picture academy made it a little easier in 2021 to predict the winners by combining Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing into one category: Best Sound. Both sound mixers and sound editors are recognized in the combined category. Up to six statuettes will be awarded to one production sound mixer, two supervising sound editors and three re-recording mixers. The inaugural winner of Best Sound was, appropriately enough “Sound of Metal.” In 2022 this prize went to “Dune” while “Top Gun: Maverick” won in 2023. The reigning champ is “The Zone of Interest.” (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Sound.)
The sound branch determines the nominees in two stages. First, members of the branch cast preferential ballots with the top 10 vote-getters, announced on December 17, moving on to the second stage. Members who attend screenings of excerpts from these 10 semi-finalists or attest that they have seen them cast...

In 2022, Smile surprised audiences with a creative premise that culminated in one of the most memorable, successful horror movies of that year. However, I feel its ending missed the perfect opportunity to close its original story at the most appropriate, thematically ideal moment. Regardless, filmmaker Parker Finn stood out for his technical skill and imaginative storytelling, which led to high expectations for the sequel, Smile 2, led by Naomi Scott (Aladdin).
Just as she’s about to start a new world tour, pop sensation Skye Riley (Scott) begins to experience increasingly terrifying, inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by rising horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to confront her traumatic past to regain control of her life before it slips away completely. Smile 2 picks up immediately following the original flick, with an intensely captivating opening sequence as a gateway to an impressive spectacle that surpasses all expectations.

Legendary filmmaker, animator, and voice actor Chris Sanders returns to the big screen with The Wild Robot, a captivating new adventure from DreamWorks Animation. Adapted from Peter Brown’s popular 2016 novel of the same name, this heart-warming story is brought to life by an impressive voice cast, that includes Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.
At the heart of Wild Robot is the tale of Roz (voiced by Nyong’o), a robot who finds herself stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. Left alone in the wilderness, Roz must adapt to her new surroundings and find a way to survive. In an unexpected turn of events, Roz becomes the adoptive mother of Brightbill (Connor), a young goose whose family she unintentionally kills after a fall. Lupita Nyong’o spoke about becoming a certified scream queen with frequent horror movie appearances and coping with her persisting grief after the death of Chadwick Boseman at a BFI London Film Festival event on Monday.
Nyong’o, best known for her roles in 12 Years a Slave, A Quiet Place: Day One, and Black Panther alongside Boseman, spoke at a Screen Talk event on Monday while promoting her new film, The Wild Robot.
When first shown a clip of her character and Boseman’s T’Challa in the 2018 Marvel film Black Panther, Nyong’o was silent and became emotional. After a few seconds, the Kenyan actress revealed she has not watched the movie since Boseman’s death from colon cancer at age 43 in 2020. “The grief is the love, and no place to put it,” she said. She politely declined to move onto the next clip: “No, no… It’s fine.

All but one of the 32 summer wide release films (from May through Labor Day) have either been released to PVOD or announced its date. The average window (period of theater exclusivity) will be 35 days.
That’s six days earlier than the average (41 days) for last summer’s 34 releases. 35 days is also less than the full-year 2023 number: 37 days. And summer, with its normally top-heavy group of expected big hitters, usually has longer windows than the other eight months of the year.
January through April this year saw a 30-day window average. Post-Labor Day should be higher, but likely less than the summer, suggesting full-year 2024 will be lower than the past two post-Covid/disruption periods.
It’s too early to quantify the average time of initial streaming. But that has also been decreasing to somewhere around 120 days.

Before the world went silent, New York was the city metropolis that we all know and love. Sam (Lupita Nyong’o) is a cancer patient at a hospice, reluctantly joining a group outing to Manhattan. While there, the creatures descend and begin to wreak their havoc. As Sam begins to get to grips with what’s happening, she crosses paths with Eric (Joesph Quinn), and the two begin their journey to safety.
Most of the time, a prequel that appears years after a franchise has been established — particularly one that has disrupted the timeline between films 2 and 3 — usually has no business outshining the others. While many of us were bowled over by the unique authenticity of A Quiet Place, we’re still feeling short-changed by its sequel (we’ve all been rewatching the viral video...
