The third film in the cult “Orphan” horror franchise has been officially green lit, with Isabelle Fuhrman — recently seen in Kevin Costner’s “Horizon” — returning to play her iconic role of Esther and “Orphan: First Kill’s” writer David Coggeshall (“The Family Plan”) and director William Brent Bell (“The Boy” franchise) also back behind the camera.

The feature — of which plot details are currently being kept under wraps — was announced by production banner Dark Castle Entertainment, with Lionsgate set to launch the project at the American Film Market this week.

“Dark Castle is excited to announce another terrifying chapter in the ‘Orphan’ saga,” said Norman Golightly, Co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment. “With the past success of the first two movies and another thrilling storyline, we are confident that ‘Orphan 3’ will be a must-see movie for both current fans of the franchise, and new fans alike.”

Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday has been filming in Ireland since May, and Netflix has just unveiled a video that gives a glimpse behind the scenes. In the process, they have also confirmed that the new batch of episodes will premiere sometime in 2025. Among the cast and crew members seen in the video are, of course, star Jenna Ortega, as well as director Tim Burton – and during a chat with Collider, Al Gough (who created this series with Miles Millar) revealed that Burton is directing half of season 2, which is the same thing he did for the first season. That means Burton is at the helm of four of the season’s eight episodes.

Today, Netflix announced the start of production on Wednesday Season 2 in Ireland with several new cast members joining the series. The streaming service released a video in which fan-favorite Thing delivers new scripts to cast members on set.

Thing also takes center stage on Netflix’s newly launched TikTok channel, aka “Thing Tok,” which is dedicated to all things Wednesday from Thing’s unique perspective.

In a quaint village somewhere in the north, judging by the accents, the new vicar Rebecca Holland (Tuppence Middleton) seems to think she’s made some progress connecting with the locals. Mind you, turnout for Sunday services yields barely enough souls for a game of five-a-side. But the community seems friendly enough to her and her husband Henry (Matt Stokoe), and they seem to have paid the family a compliment by choosing the Hollands’ pre-pubescent daughter Grace to be some kind of angel with wheat sheaf wings for the upcoming harvest festival.

The fact that we received a prequel to the 2009 thriller Orphan in 2022 was mind-boggling – especially since the surprisingly entertaining Orphan: First Kill still starred Isabelle Fuhrman as Leena Klammer / Esther, an adult serial killer from Estonia who is able to pass herself off as a 9 year old kid. Looking 9 was easy for Fuhrman when she made the first movie, because she was a child at the time… but now she’s an adult, and the filmmakers had to try to figure out how to make her look like a kid again for the prequel. William Brent Bell (The Boy, Separation) stepped into the director’s chair for Orphan: First Kill, a prequel film that solidified Esther’s killer icon status. The filmmaker revealed that he’s actively developing a follow-up, ensuring Esther’s killer hijinks will continue.

“We’re developing a third one now. The franchise’s rulebook has been opened up to where anything is possible,” Bell said in an interview with THR. “And knowing where we are in the process already, I’m extremely excited about the twists and turns that we have in store.”

After Orphan: First Kill landed William Brent Bell the best reviews of his career, the genre filmmaker has kept the momentum going with another well received film in Lord of Misrule.

Bell has explored a variety of different horror subgenres throughout his career, and he can now cross folk horror off the list. Lord of Misrule chronicles a vicar named Rebecca Holland (Tuppence Middleton), whose daughter (Evie Templeton) goes missing during her quaint English village’s harvest festival. Rebecca then stops at nothing to find her missing child, and all roads lead her to Ralph Ineson’s Jocelyn Abney, who has a keen insight into the town’s disturbing folklore.

Oddly enough, Ineson’s role was written to be a middle-aged woman, but Bell floated the idea of Ineson reinterpreting the character through performance, as opposed to rewriting.

“Familiar” is one of those descriptors critics can twist into a positive or negative connotation. William Brent Bell’s folkloric Lord of Misrule basks in culty Pagan familiarity but not as cheap mimicry. If you’ve seen The Wicker Man, The Ritual, Kill List — I’ll spare you thirty more titles — you won’t be stricken dumbstruck by writer Tom de Ville’s ode to harvest rituals and wretched traditions. Bell’s not rewriting the book on insidious celebrations beneath all the synchronized dances and laughter, and yet, Lord of Misrule is an undeniably atmospheric venture into villages of the damned.

Tom de Ville’s (The Quiet Ones) script has been said to echo The Wicker Man and Midsommar. Like The Wicker Man, Lord of Misrule also features original folk horror music, particularly a theme song featured over the end credits. It turns out that the folk song was co-written by Bell himself.
