About 10 years into its business plan, Apm scored a huge win by getting the rights to market the NFL Films music library. Ninety albums and 25 years later the relationship is still going strong. The footballers also use Apm catalog music — the ESPN “Monday Night Football” theme, “Heavy Action,” is “the most well-known sports theme in the United States,” Taylor says. But mostly they provide music to Apm which markets the catalog to local sports teams, videogames, TV shows and elsewhere.
The 90 NFL albums represent about 5,000 tracks. Custom music director Connie Red has worked closely with the NFL from day one, charged with the task of bringing order to the massive catalog of many thousands of hours. “We had Tom Heddon, who was then the NFL music director, preselect best 200 tracks for us to put on CD” (circa 1994), “and when we listened I thought, ‘This is really cool!’ It had a Spaghetti Western vibe.

Well this years Frightfest is over and I’ve had a week to digest everything – it’s safe to say this year was… interesting. The move from the Empire to Vue West End, whilst not without the odd teething problem, was a success. Yes, the atmosphere had changed a little, at least in terms of experiencing a film with hundreds of people instead of thousands, but the positives of the move truly outweighed any negatives. My personal positive? The wide range of films on show this year and that fact there was No problems getting into the Discovery Screens this year – which in my own case, was where I saw some of the best films of the festival.
Speaking of films, whilst there was no outstanding, totally blown me away, movie this year, there overall standard was Very high, with only one real dud of the entire week (and I...

It’s safe to say horror westerns don’t have the best track record. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a good amount of decent examples out there such as Grim Prarie Tales, Ravenous, Dead Birds and The Burrowers. But there’s also a Lot of bad horror westerns, two of which – Gallowalkers and Umbrage – debuted at Frightfest’s of the past. Given that, it was with a sense of trepidation that I approached Blood Moon…
Set in Colorado in 1887, Blood Moon sees a stagecoach full of strange passengers and an enigmatic gunslinger Calhoun (Dooley) find themselves prisoners of two desperate outlaws on the run. As the prairie travellers attempt to outwit the outlaws in any way they can it soon...

Vaughn Making Big Screen Return
Actor Robert Vaughn is to make a return to the big screen by paying homage to his role in The Magnificent Seven in a new movie.
The 79 year old is the last surviving member of the main cast of the 1960 Western, which also starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, and he has now signed up to appear in a new independent film called The Magnificent Eleven.
The job will mark Vaughn's first feature project in a decade.
In the original film, which was a remake of Japanese movie Seven Samurai, Vaughn played a good guy gun slinger, but in the new picture, he will tackle the role of a villain called American Bob.
Vaughn tells Britain's Daily Mail, "I like any kind of bizarre comedy and that’s what this is. I like playing sociopaths and psychopaths who are also funny. It’s very cleverly written with a lot of oddball gags. I have a line in one scene where I say to this guy who was a tiler, 'I’m giving you a chance to live for one reason - because you did such a good job on my bathroom'."
Vaughn will next be seen playing a role on the U.K.'s longest running soap opera, Coronation Street.

Aaron Eckhart, Sean Bean and AnnaSophie Robb have been confirmed to star in Swiss director Ben Hibon’s new spin on the Peter Pan tale. With Pan, Hibon plans to take J. M. Barrie’s tale in a darker, more sinister direction, and although this will be his directorial feature-length debut, he has previously won acclaim as director of 2007 video game ‘Heavenly Sword’, and more recently was animation director on ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1’.
Eckhart, already seasoned in the way of a gritty thriller with his role in ‘The Dark Knight’, is set to play Hook, who, in Hibon’s version, is a tormented police detective on the trail of a childlike kidnapper. Sean Bean is set to take on the role of Smee, a chief detective and Hook’s solitary friend on the force.

If you're going to do a remake, if you're gonna take it upon yourself to reimagine a classic, then goddammit, you best reinvent it. The Magnificent Seven itself is a remake of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, but takes a wonderful film and doesn't try to recreate it, but honors it by reinventing it. And so, when I heard from that magnificent bastard over at FilmDrunk that Irvine Welsh was planning to redo The Magnificent Seven, I thought, well alright then. At least it's gonna be creatively fucked up. Maybe the Wild Bunch on heroin?
Then I read his concept:
"Welsh will direct gritty UK comedy The Magnificent Eleven, a modern-day version of the classic 1960 western The Magnificent Seven in which the Cowboys are a local amateur soccer team, the Indians run a nearby Tandoori restaurant and the bandits are a group of menacing thugs run by a maniac called Blonde Bob.

Irvine Welsh, the novelist of acclaimed book “Trainspotting”, is set to direct “The Magnificent Eleven”, a modern-day version of the classic 1960 western “The Magnificent Seven.” The updated story, which will be a dark comedy, places the setting in a Tandoori neighborhood as opposed to a poor Mexican villaing. Instead of hired guns, a local soccer team called the Cowboys defend a restaurant against a street gang led by Blonde Bob, instead of marauding bandits. Sean Bean, Dougray Scott and Robert Vaughan are all slated to star. Vaughn was also a cast member of the original “The Magnificent Seven.” That film itself was an American remake of the [...]...

After learning almost a year ago that the man who spawned Trainspotting would be taking on directorial duties for a modern remake of The Magnificent Seven, entitled The Magnificent Eleven, it has now been announced that Irvine Welsh will be directing Sean Bean, Dougray Scott and Robert Vaughn in the project.
Plot details are thin on the ground but the film is said to centre around a group of footballers who rally around a Tandoori restaurant that is being menaced by a group of thugs lead by the maniacal Blonde Bob.
It's interesting to note that Vaughn is the last surviving primary cast member from The Magnificent Seven, but it is not clear yet what role he, Bean or Scott will play in this updated version.
Pete and John Adams wrote the original script for The Magnificent Eleven, and since Welsh signed on he has done a rewrite in conjunction with the brothers.

You might remember that, last May, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh was announced as the director of The Magnificent Eleven, a modern remake of The Magnificent Seven that centers around a group of UK footballers (i.e. soccer players, which I pray doesn't really require explanation) who rally around a Tandoori restaurant. We still don't know that much about the picture, but at last there are some actors to associate with it: Sean Bean, Dougray Scott and Robert Vaughn have all been cast. When Brendon covered the film last year, he threw out this synopsis: A modernization of the classic western in which the Cowboys are a struggling local amateur soccer team, the Indians run a nearby Tandoori restaurant and the bandits are a group of menacing thugs led by a maniac known simply as ‘Blonde Bob’. We don't know what roles Bean, Scott and Vaughn will play; their names are...

For some, Trainspotting was their first encounter with director Danny Boyle as a spectacular filmmaker with unique vision. But for others, Trainspotting first came into their lives three years earlier in the form of Scottish author Irvine Welsh's beloved novel. Aside from writing Welsh has dabbled in directing short films as well as music videos like Atlantic for British rock band Keane. Now ScreenDaily says Welsh is set to take on his first feature film with the gritty comedy The Magnificent Eleven, a modern-day version of the classic 1960 western The Magnificent Seven featuring Sean Bean, Dougray Scott and Robert Vaughan. The classic western formula gets spiced up a bit with: an amateur soccer team (cowboys), some Indians (in place of Native Americans) who run a nearby Tandoori restaurant, and a group of menacing thugs (bandits) run by a maniac called Blonde Bob. As much as I loved The Magnificent Seven I always felt the one thing it was missing was Football.

Football films haven’t fared too well at the box office, but if there’s anyone who can pinpoint the comedy and tragedy of the Sunday football leagues it’s Welsh.
