Hailing from Vertical, The Bricklayer stars Aaron Eckhart and revolves around a rogue insurgent blackmailing the CIA by assassinating foreign journalists and making it appear the agency is responsible. As other nations turn against the U.S., the CIA must lure Steve Vail (Eckhart) – their most brilliant and rebellious operative – out of retirement. With an elite and deadly skill set, Vail is tasked with helping clear the agency’s name, forcing him to confront his checkered past while unraveling an international conspiracy.

Bringing pain alongside Steve to those who deserve it most is Nina Dobrev’s Kate, a young, no-nonsense agent with a penchant for violence and a mean trigger finger. Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, and Ilfenesh Hadera also star as primary cast members.

Jake Johnson’s feature directorial debut, titled “Self Reliance,” is coming to Hulu on Sept. 8. The streamer will launch the comedy thriller, written and starring the “Minx” and “New Girl” star, as a Hulu original.

Hulu acquired the film in a deal with MRC and Paramount Global Distribution after fierce competition following its debut at the SXSW Film Festival in March. The logline for the film reads: “When a man is offered a million dollars to play a game in which hunters try to kill him, he thinks he has found the perfect loophole: they can only attack when he’s alone. His only problem is that none of his friends or family believe the game is real.”

Along with Johnson, the film stars Anna Kendrick, Natalie Morales, Andy Samberg, GaTa (“Dave”), Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”), Mary Holland, Boban Marjanović, Christopher Lloyd and Wayne Brady.

Universal has moved “Strays” from June 9 to August 18, placing the R-rated talking-animal comedy in the same general release slot where the likes of “Good Boys” and “We’re The Millers” found fortune and glory in years prior. Exclusive: Seann William Scott has signed on to star in The Last Bachelor, a romantic comedy from director Luke Greenfield.

Greenfield co-wrote the script and will also produce alongside Jason Benoit, with XYZ Films producing and financing with investment funding from Ipr.Vc. Lee Kim of Resolute Films and Entertainment is also producing. XYZ Films are handling world rights and will introduce the pic to buyers and the upcoming Cannes market.

“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.

“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.

On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.

First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.

Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

Bill Hader returns for one final season of Barry and the popular sketch comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show kicks off its fourth season on HBO Max in April 2023. Additional highlights of the streaming service’s April lineup include the debut of Love & Death, a limited series starring Elizabeth Olsen and Patrick Fugit; season two of Somebody Somewhere with Bridget Everett; and the return of 100 Foot Wave for a second season.

In addition, the Titans mid-season premiere arrives on April 13. HBO Max offers this description of the fourth and final season’s remaining episodes: “The Titans – with the exception of Gar – are returned to the Temple of Trigon and rush to find Sebastian and Mother Mayhem before Sebastian summons Trigon. Along the way, they come across a prophecy that may require Kory to make a huge sacrifice to save the world.

In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Barry (Bill Hader), a hitman who stumbles into acting, explores the dark, often comedic underbelly of both LA gangsters and Hollywood. Henry Winkler stars as Cousineau, Barry’s acting teacher and the man forced to confront the reality of his former student.

Van Der Beek is in negotiations to join Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann in Rock the Boat, a comedy being made by eOne.

Veteran comedy director Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops) is helming the project that has Netflix in talks to pick it up from eOne, which is on the market from Hasbro. A spring shoot is being eyed.

Jon Turteltaub, Jonathan Prince, Mark Ross and Wilson are producing. Josie Liang is executive producing.

The story tells of four female best friends who in high school in the 1990s were obsessed with a boy band a la The Backstreet Boys or 98 Degrees. Cut to 20 years later, when the band, named 4Play, announces a reunion tour aboard a cruise ship, the four women hop on board to rediscover their friendships and reignite their lives.

Van Der Beek will play one of the band members.

Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. are taking their father-son relationship to the small screen with a new untitled CBS comedy, which the duo will star in and executive produce. The multicam format has received a pilot order from the network, and will be co-written by Wayans and Kevin Hench (“Last Man Standing”).

Poor Greg Drowning was acquired and released by Comedy Dynamics after it played at 26 festivals, garnering 13 awards including Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director. The film, narrated by Cedric the Entertainer, is about a love addict named Greg, played by Graham Sibley, whose girlfriend left him for their couples therapist.

In addition to developing his slate of film and TV projects, Collins is also working on his follow-up feature, a dark heist noir comedy set in Los Angeles. Collins co-wrote the script, and will also be directing and producing the film through his This Seems Reel Entertainment banner.

That face! Nina Dobrev just adopted a new dog — and she's the cutest! The Vampire Diaries alum introduced her via Instagram on Monday, April 24.

"Meet Maverick," she captioned a pic of the pup wearing a red hair bow.

The star, 28, even created a "@Mrs.Maverick" Instagram account for her new buddy. "Hi. My name is Maverick Do(g)brev. I like long walks on the beach and candle lit dinners in doggie bowls," the introductory post reads. "I have a brother named Goose and we’re both 9 weeks old. I keep hearing the giants around us say that we’re half Border Collie half Aussie Shepherd, but I guess we won’t know for sure until we get a DNA test."

While it may look like fun and games, surviving Coachella isn't easy. The Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev can attest to this after her ninth year attending the music festival in California. And in 2017, not only did she attend the first weekend, but also the second—an unheard of feat for anyone, let alone a busy celebrity.

"I logged my steps from last weekend and I think we did seven miles the first day, eight miles the second day, and then seven miles the last," said Dobrev on Sunday morning, the final day of the weekend-long event. "We didn’t even go for the full days—that’s just like, 7 p.m. until midnight."

Somehow, Dobrev was still full of energy, and completed a full Les Mills Grit workout at the Reebok Classics...

As has been the case over the last three weekends, this weekend is looking to outperform last year and, once again, by a significant margin. This probably wasn't the reaction Warner Bros. was expecting when they moved the new comedy "Vacation" from October to July.  The fifth big screen edition of the franchise that helped make Chevy Chase a star was supposed to be a summer comedy "surprise."  This year's "Meet the Millers" or "Let's Be Cops," but, um, actually funny.  That doesn't seem to be the case. Directed by the "Horrible Bosses" writing team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, "Vacation" earned just a B Cinemascore from audiences polled after seeing it (an average score is actually an A).  Critics weren't that kind either.  It landed with a terrible 33 out of 100 grade on Metacritic and scored just 26% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes which is pretty rotten. And, no, that's not good for its long term prospects at the box office.  Still, is it really that bad?  Is "Vacation" really one of the worst movies of the year?...

Director Paul Feig's upcoming Ghostbusters reboot has already put together a pretty great ensemble of stars - including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth - but today the roster has gotten even deeper. That's because new reports have revealed that the in-production blockbuster has added four more actors to the cast.
