Vanessa is a woman coping with immense grief. A year has passed since losing her young son in a tragic accident, but the pain of his absence remains an open wound. Seeking respite from her anguish, Vanessa travels with her husband Alex and his brother Martel to a remote lakeside home nestled deep in the woods. What was hoped to be an escape becomes something more mysterious.
Directed by Kourosh Ahari, Parallel tells the quiet yet profound story of Vanessa’s journey through an inherently sci-fi drama at its core, exploring the theoretical possibilities of parallel worlds.
But it approaches this heady concept in a much different manner than blockbuster multiverse adventures packed with flash and spectacle. With only a small cast including Danielle Deadwyler, Aldis Hodge, and Edwin Hodge, the film becomes an intensely intimate character study.

Vertical and Bren Foster will launch their new martial arts thriller “Life After Fighting” on June 7 in select theaters and on demand. This marks Foster’s feature debut as writer-director and is his first collaboration with producer Navid Bahadori under their newly formed production and distribution company, Spinning Plates.
According to an official logline, “In ‘Life After Fighting,’ the tranquil existence of Alex Faulkner (Foster), a former martial arts world champion, is shattered when the inexplicable vanishing of two young students from his martial arts school culminates in a shocking revelation that strikes close to his heart. As all avenues of hope seem to dwindle, Faulkner’s determination leads to the rescue of the imprisoned girls, revealing an insidious international child-trafficking ring, which ultimately leads to the fight of his life.”
Other cast members include Luke Ford (“Animal Kingdom”), Cassie Howarth (“NCIS: Sydney”), Anabelle Stephenson (“Tidelands”) and Jake Ryan (“The Great Gatsby...

Maybe chalk it up to YouTube’s recommendation algorithm, the platform is awash in hour-long mixes of Aphex Twin tracks on loop (sometimes accompanied by a video of a serene-looking monkey relaxing in a lake), designed to play while you focus on work or school, or whatever. Four Tet...

The multiverse isn’t a new concept—it’s been explored quite a bit across film and TV—but for FBI: Most Wanted star Edwin Hodge, whose Parallel hits theaters on February 23 and becomes available on-demand on February 27, he was more interested in exploring the characters. This sci-fi thriller is the first produced under Edwin and his brother and fellow actor Aldis Hodge‘s Hodge Brothers Productions. Edwin and Aldis not only star in and produced the movie, but they also wrote the script along with Jonathan Keasey. Parallel, based on the 2019 Chinese film Parallel Forest by Lei Zheng, follows Vanessa (Danielle Deadwyler), who takes refuge at her family’s lake house to grieve after suffering the loss of her child. Accompanied by her husband, Alex (Aldis Hodge), and his brother, Martel (Edwin Hodge), Vanessa attempts to regain her sense of normalcy after the tragedy. But soon after their arrival,...
