Did you know
- TriviaMark Ruffalo had a lot of doubts about his performance during the shoot. He often half-joked that his friend Oscar Isaac, who was filming on a nearby sound stage, was going to be called in to replace him. One day, Willem Dafoe pranked Ruffalo by taking him to a room where Isaac (who was in on the joke) was waiting. Isaac and Dafoe informed Ruffalo he was fired and, indeed, getting replaced by Isaac.
- GoofsMark Ruffalo's attempt at a British accent is extremely unconvincing.
However, an unconvincing accent is simply a limitation of the actor's ability and not a mistake on the part of the filmmakers. Also, what is considered unconvincing is a subjective matter of opinion.
- Quotes
Bella Baxter: [on the wailing infant] I must go punch that baby.
- Crazy creditsThe opening and closing credits are shown as a frame around the image.
- Alternate versionsThe UK's BBFC viewed the film during editing to provide advice on classification, and informed the distributor it required changes to one short sequence to secure an "18" rating. The scene depicted sexual activity in the presence of children. Under UK law, this could be illegal and therefore required removal before being distributed within the country. The changes were made before formal classification, and this same version of the film was ultimately released everywhere.

With this review I waited until the Oscar gala, but fortunately I was not disappointed
Anyone who has seen a film by Yorgos Lanthimos knows that his directors do not offer a positive cinematic experience for every movieviewer, and some may be deterred by the director's name after "The Lobster" or "The Killing of a Sacred Deer", but the "Poor Things" is much easier to enjoy. More accessible than the aforementioned, but still bizarre and abstract.
The acting, the editing and the shooting are simply brilliant. The visual world is unique, the steampunk touches are outstanding, the sets and costumes are superb, you can just wander around the fairy tale world surrounding the film, it's just beautiful.
With exceptional believability, Emma Stone plays the role of a naive and honest child trapped in an adult's body. Finally an Oscar ceremony where the Oscar was in the right place, I was a bit afraid that she wouldn't get it. I definitely think she is the best actress of her generation (Y generation), she has proven that many times.
Mark Ruffalo also gives a perfect performance, as he suddenly goes from a womanizer Casanova to a hysterical, jealous man, disturbed that for the first time he is being treated by a woman as a hedonistic, pleasure-seeking man, as he is. He cannot tolerate or control this image of a woman who is different from all social norms, and he is cast in the subordinate role of 'man in love'.
In my opinion, Willam Dafoe is a very underrated actor, but he gives a excellent performance here too.
The direction also evokes David Lynch with its surrealism, atmosphere, gore characters and dialogue, absurd situations. I liked it, i love Lynch.
!!! Soft porn alert for the prudish.!!!
I have not read the book, so I cannot comment on this.
