“I’m thrilled to be part of a project of this caliber,” said Mottola. “Jennifer and Steve have hilariously expanded upon Manuel Gonzalez’s fantastical acid tale of marital discord. Media...

Charlie Hunnam will star in “Monster” Season 3 at Netflix as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement onstage during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Gein, who also hailed from Wisconsin like Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains. Gein’s case served as an inspiration for several major pop culture characters later on, including Norman Bates in “Psycho” and Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs.”

Joan Jett may not give a damn about her reputation but the cast of Freaks and Geeks better fully realize that of the short-lived cult series. And by and large, they do. Really, how can anyone deny the impact that the Paul Feig-created and Judd Apatow-produced dramedy had on the careers of Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, John Francis Daley, Samm Levine, Martin Starr, and Busy Phillipps? Yeah, it was that stacked of a cast before we even knew it.
One who continues to be reminded of just how impactful Freaks and Geeks was is Seth Rogen, who played “freak” stoner Ken. As he told Entertainment Tonight, “I still am good friends with a lot of the people that were on the show. People kept watching it — I meet teenagers all the time who come up to me and say they love the show.” You...

Seeing one of your favorite shows canceled much too soon is such a common occurrence that we at Primetimer dedicated a whole feature type to exploring short-lived series that cast long shadows over the medium — shows like Undeclared, Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, Ultraviolet, and Wonderfalls. The latest — and, as it turns out, final — edition revisited the sublime Lodge 49, which presented this world for what it is (mired in capitalism and war) while also envisioning what it could be.

Charlie Hunnam has been cast in the lead role of the series adaptation of “Criminal” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned.
“Criminal” is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The official description states that the series is “an interlocking universe of crime stories.”
Hunnam will star as Leo. The character is described as “A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”
Hunnam joins previously announced cast members Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison in the series.
This is not the first time Hunnam has starred as a criminal in a TV series or film.

Despite some of the Ssu movies getting mixed or negative reviews (like Morbius), the Ssu keeps going and now has many live-action and animated projects in the works, focusing on Spider-Man’s side characters and villains. ‘Madame Web’ came out on February 14th and didn’t do well, with Dakota Johnson criticizing its development publicly.
Upcoming releases include ‘Kraven the Hunter’ on August 30th, 2024, and ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ which changed its release date to October 25th instead of November 3rd. ‘Venom’ is the most successful franchise in the Ssu, so it’s not surprising that there are reports of Feige wanting to bring him into the MCU.
Even though “The Last Dance” marks the conclusion of Venom’s current story, it doesn’t signal the end of Venom-related projects. Recently, there have been discussions about an animated R-rated Venom project in the works. Now, a prominent source, CanWeGetSomeToast, has...

Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.
Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

Series regular Alexa Davalos will not be returning for Season 5 of CBS’ “FBI: Most Wanted,” Variety has confirmed.

Davalos joined the series at the beginning of Season 3, playing the role of Kristin Gaines, a member of the FBI’s Fugitive Task Force and a former Naval Intelligence Officer. Her character’s exit joins the short list of cast shakeups that have taken place on the Wolf Entertainment show. It’s hard to believe, but Cobweb star Lizzy Caplan hasn’t made a full-fledged horror movie until now. The genre is often a rite of passage for younger actors, especially modern-day performers, but surprisingly, the opportunities never came Caplan’s way despite launching her career 24 years ago. She started out with a handful of appearances on Paul Feig and Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks, as well as the latter’s Undeclared, and she first got to know Seth Rogen through both of the aforementioned comedic projects. Oddly enough, Rogen’s production company, Point Grey, would bring her Chris Thomas Devlin’s Cobweb script two decades later.
In 2004, Caplan’s life forever changed by way of her breakout performance as the witty and brash Janis Ian in Tina Fey and Mark Waters’ now-classic comedy, Mean Girls. So, besides having an aversion to horror movies, Caplan tends to believe that...

The cast of Apple TV+’s “Platonic” was all smiles and laughs as they celebrated the premiere of their rom-com, but the Wednesday night carpet was clouded by Hollywood’s ongoing writers strike.
Some of the show’s stars including longtime friends Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Carla Gallo revealed their thoughts on the face off between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers while walking the green carpet outside of Regal LA Live theater in downtown Los Angeles.
“I’m personally distressed by not having any sense of how successful these shows and movies we make for streaming services are,” said Rogen. “The secretiveness only makes me think that they’re making way more money off of all of us than they want to share with anybody. These executives are making insane salaries that you would only make if you are running an incredibly profitable business.

Plot: The rise and fall of BlackBerry through the eyes of its founder and creator Mike Lazaridis (Jay Baruchel) and co-ceo Jim Balsillie (Glenn Howerton) as they go from being upstarts to dominating the smartphone market, and eventually, getting rendered obsolete by the rise of iPhone.
Review: Does anyone remember the term “crackberry?” That was a popular nickname for the BlackBerry when it first hit the market around 1999, as it was the first cell phone that allowed for effective emailing via your mobile device. It had its own dedicated server that meant people, for the first time, could send and receive emails from their phones – quickly. Soon they added web browsing, cameras and more, all of which seemed like science fiction when the company started pitching the product in the mid-nineties. For a long time, they were the great Canadian success story, with them based in Waterloo, Ontario, only for...

Forgetting Sarah Marshall isn’t the biggest comedy of the 2000s. But the movie features several incredibly funny scenes that permeated pop culture when it debuted in 2008. Arguably the most iconic moment is Peter Bretter’s (Jason Segel) nude breakup with the ritual Sarah (Kristen Bell) in his apartment. That ridiculous, cringy, hilarious scene comes directly from the writer and star’s actual life. But in a recent interview, Segel explained that the breakup was even wilder in reality, thanks to one detail left out of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Comedy occupies a pretty fascinating space within the movie world. Sure, comedies have been a part of mainstream cinema pretty much from the very start, dating back to some of the silent era's biggest stars like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. But comedy isn't as easy to churn out as something like horror. Just about anyone can make a horror movie with a little bit of money and some people willing to get blood on their clothes. Good horror is another conversation entirely but even the worst of the worst horror films can gain cult status. Comedy, however, requires a bit more.
With that having been said, it is always pretty remarkable when everything comes together and a comedy manages to break...

Jason Segel has been cast as Paul Westhead in the HBO series about the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s.
The untitled series was ordered at HBO in December 2019. It is described as chronicling the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers, one of sports’ most revered and dominant dynasties, in what came to be called the Showtime Era.
Westhead is described as a Shakespeare professor who leaves grading papers behind to be assistant coach of the Lakers. In Los Angeles, Westhead steps into a drama straight off the Bard’s page (of which he is fond of quoting).

It’s hard to remember now, but there was a time before Elf was everywhere — on frequent cable rotation, Broadway, and everyone’s DVD shelf of classic Christmas movies. There was a time when Will Ferrell was not a surefire comedy movie star, and when Jon Favreau was the guy from Swingers who had directed some little indie films. But they set out to make a modern holiday classic, one that would rub shoulders with such perennial favorites as Miracle on 34th Street and TV’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer — and they succeeded.

It feels as though Seth Rogen has been around forever, with the actor enduring as one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood comedy for well over fifteen years now, but incredibly the Canadian funnyman is only 38 years old, despite having over 20 years of experience in the industry after making his screen debut Paul Feige’s cult classic TV show Freaks & Geeks before getting his start behind the scenes as a writer on Judd Apatow’s short-lived Undeclared, in which he also played one of the main roles.
Surprisingly, Rogen’s first feature film gig came when he was tasked to perform uncredited rewrites on Michael Bay’s Bad Boys II, but two years later he caught his big break in Apatow’s The 40 Year-Old Virgin. After headlining Knocked Up, Rogen finally received his first credit as a screenwriter in 2007 when Superbad hit the big screen.

Judd Apatow-produced rom-com Forgetting Sarah Marshall is beloved by many, and managed to create so many incredible comedy moments with a cast who seemed happy to take a leap of faith with writer and star Jason Segel in that particular stage of their careers.
Along with Segel, director Nicholas Stoller cast Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, Bill Hader, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Jason Bateman and more in the tale of a jilted boyfriend who is struggling to get over his famous ex, but Segel had written the special part of insufferable rock star Aldous Snow for his close friend Charlie Hunnam, who was coming off Fox’s short-lived sitcom Undeclared – another Apatow-shepherded project.
But Hunnam would eventually leave Forgetting Sarah Marshall after the first table read, and in a new interview with Collider, the actor has opened up about why he quit the movie, and how his exit opened the...

Each day on Loudon Wainwright III’s front yard, squirrels attack Donald Trump. Well, not exactly: Dangling by string from a tree on his front yard on the eastern tip of Long Island is a Trump squirrel feeder, a plastic head in the shape of a certain world leader that Wainwright stuffs with peanut butter to keep critters away from his house. “It works pretty well,” he says, “but I’m not sure what state the peanut butter is in now.”

Jon Hamm is set to make a new advertising pitch, one that will see him taking on the deadpan, stumble-bumming 1980s-era comedy mantle of Chevy Chase with a reboot of Fletch.
Miramax has announced its development of a new Fletch movie, which will see star Hamm co-produce with the studio. The film will be a reboot of the franchise launched by 1985 hit detective comedy Fletch and continued with 1989’s Fletch Lives, which starred Chevy Chase as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, an eccentric-but-tenacious L.A. Times reporter who gets scoops the dangerous way while donning an absurd variety of disguises. Like the 1985 hit, the reboot will be a loosely-comedic adaptation of author Gregory McDonald’s 1974-launched series of Fletch detective novels.
As Miramax CEO Bill Block expresses in a statement:
“Fletch’s duration over audiences — whether told on paper or the big screen — entertains all and we could not be more thrilled...

Because while free and paid services offer a vast array of past and present programming, countless classic series are nowhere to be found in the streaming era.
Of the 18 top-rated scripted series since 1970, only half of them are readily available to binge in their entirety: The Cosby Show (on Amazon Prime), Cheers (on Amazon Prime, CBS All Access, Hulu and Netflix), CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (on Hulu), Dallas (free on IMDbTV), Desperate Housewives...

Jason Segel is best known for his work on the How I Met Your Mother TV series. That series ran for nine seasons but his other shows, like Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks, had much shorter runs. Will Dispatches from Elsewhere be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
An anthology drama series, the first season of Dispatches from Elsewhere stars Segel, Sally Field, Richard E. Grant, André Benjamin, and Eve Lindley. When Kevin Hart leaves his mark in the hallowed ground on Dec. 10, he’ll be joining a veritable who’s who of Hollywood legends over the past 90 years in an honor he’s still wrapping his head around.
“You don’t see these things coming, and when they happen you just get blown away,” says Hart. “Seeing it in the ground, lasting forever, giving my kids something to see, to hold onto, is so powerful.”
The honor comes as Hart rides a wave of success and popularity stemming from appearing in hit films such as “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” and its upcoming sequel, “Jumanji: The Next Level,” as well as having a versatile television presence whether acting or hosting, along with juggernaut stand-up comedy tours, specials, albums and a robust online presence.
No matter where his career takes him, he’ll always look back to comedy as the starting point.

Charlie Hunnam has been in the Hollywood spotlight since the late '90s, and it's safe to say that he just keeps getting hotter and hotter. The sexiest Charlie Hunnam pictures out there include several recent favorites - bonus points for the ridiculously hot shirtless snaps - but he's been a heartthrob for more than a decade.
In the early 2000s, Charlie appeared on Undeclared and starred in Nicholas Nickleby alongside Anne Hathaway before gaining even more attention with roles in Cold Mountain and Green Street Hooligans. The character of his career, though, was undeniably Sons of Anarchy's Jax Teller, and he had some crazy-sexy, Gif-worthy moments on the show. Thanks to the recent Netflix movie Triple Frontier, we've gotten to see even more of Charlie lately. To celebrate the actor's 39th birthday, let's look back at his very handsome Hollywood evolution, from the '90s to now.

Judd Apatow and “Modern Family” creator Steve Levitan are joining Seth MacFarlane in criticizing Fox News. Apatow took to social media on June 18 to slam the network and 21st Century Fox executive chairman Robert Murdoch. The filmmaker called for Fox stars and executives to stand up and speak out against the network. Apatow’s comments were a reaction against Fox News’ coverage of the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance immigration policy. Apatow last worked with Fox on “Undeclared” in 2002.
“I haven’t worked with Fox since 2002. That family promotes evil ideas and greed and corruption,” Apatow wrote on Twitter. “We all choose who to work with. On Sept. 27, 1992, The Ben Stiller Show premiered on Fox, showcasing the titular star’s now well-known talent for emulating celebrities and crafting original characters. The sketch comedy series was abruptly canceled before its first season finished airing, but almost a year after it debuted, the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program.
“We had no idea,” Stiller told Et backstage at the 45th Primetime Emmy Awards. Apparently, none of the show’s writers had attended the ceremony with the notion they might beat out comedy institutions such as Saturday Night Live and Late Night with David Letterman. At some point leading up to the night, Stiller thought maybe he should put together a few words, just in case. “And then at the last minute, I thought, You know, I'm not gonna prepare a speech, because I'll feel like such a jerk when I don't win.”

An ice hockey hero returns to the rink in this puerile sequel to 2011’s Goon
In this inane sequel to Michael Dowse’s 2011 Canadian sports comedy Goon, Seann William Scott returns as Doug Glatt. An ice hockey hero, captain of the Halifax Highlanders and “a huge, Jewish freight train”, Glatt is good natured and more than a little slow. When he gets his face pounded in on the ice by blond-haired baddie Anders Cain (Wyatt Russell), he hangs up his skates and takes early retirement. He tries his luck with a new job in the basement office of an insurance company (“Doug Glatt – storage room. That’s you!”), while pregnant wife, Eva (Alison Pill, doing her best but not showing her range), tries to keep his spirits up, but it’s not long before he’s sneaking back to the rink.

Instead, the way he got his breakout role in “The Big Sick” was writing it himself. Under the mentorship of producer of Judd Apatow, Nanjiani and his wife, co-writer Emily V. You may know all about Charlie Hunnam's longtime girlfriend, Morgana McNelis, but did you know that he was actually married back in the early 2000s? The British actor recently opened up to the Associated Press about tying the knot with actress Katharine Towne when he was 18 years old, revealing that the pair met during a Dawson's Creek audition and eloped to Vegas three weeks later. "It was the first time I'd ever been in love," he said, adding that he had to return to England and they were worried about losing touch. He explained, "In our 18-year-old minds, we thought, 'What if we never see each other again? Let's get married, and then we'll have to see each other again, even if it's just to get divorced.'" The couple was married from 1999 to 2002 in what Charlie called "three terrible, painful, expensive years," but in a "small victory," he...

An Ivy League college education guarantees success, right? Maybe.
In Netflix’s new comedy series “Friends From College,” a group of friends who all attended Harvard together are now approaching their 40s and have enjoyed a wide range of success in both their work life and at home. Their various complex and interwoven relationships with each other will range from romantic entanglements and old friendships that may still be shifting. These adults are no longer who they once were after graduating, and nostalgia is hitting them hard. That means maybe catching up on some experiences that they’ve missed out on. Fred Savage’s character in particular decides to snort some Adderall in the trailer below with some mixed results.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In light of the recent “Roseanne” revival news, which sitcom would you like to see a revival of? (Let’s assume this is feasible from a network, talent, production, etc. standpoint.)
Liz Shannon Miller (@lizlet), IndieWire
So many great sitcoms are personality driven, which makes it hard to remember great premises worth reviving. (And also, when I think about some of my ‘90s favorites, like “Step by Step” or “Friends,” it’s like… Oh, maybe there’s nothing new under the sun.)
But, beyond my eternal wish that someone would remake “Almost Human” as an adorable rom-com about Karl Urban and Robot Michael Ealy falling in...
