The main characters are loosely based on the film Voll normaaal (1994) and its sequel Ballermann 6 (1997). In both films, Tom Gerhardt played the main character Tommie, who is played by Axel Stein in this show.
Although the final eighth season had already been filmed in 2008, it didn't premier until the Summer of 2010.
