Two guardsmen escort the repeat offender Faber to an island prison to sit out a three year sentence. He immediately begins manipulated the gullible Ten Bruggencate and manages to aggravate the other, Miechels.
The three new arrivals, Faber, Peer & Rosenboom get their physical before settling into prison. Being the most experienced, Faber aims to get a cushy job for himself and also gives first timer Rozenboom some tips.
Faber is taking care of the prison's pigs and chickens and betting on everything against Snoek. Rosenboom is adamant never to place a bet, so naturally Faber tries to make him break his promise.
Faber is the only one who can talk to fellow inmate Sunny, who has a very short fuse and constantly feels he is being mistreated. When Sunny climbs a roof and threatens to jump off, Faber offers to go up after him and talk him down.
Rosenboom temporarily has to share Faber's cell. The younger man misses his fiancé Desiré and Faber decides to help the boy, despite not wanting to share.
The boys have to do labor outside the prison. As soon as Miechels takes leave to visit the local pub, Faber and friends take advantage of Ten Bruggencate's easy going nature.
Faber helps the other inmates write a letter to their loved ones. Of course on visitors day the ladies soon find out they all received the same letter. But then Faber's daughter Ingrid tells him his wife wants to start over without him.
Faber throws a fit after a tin of pineapples has been stolen from his cell. Of course he didn't exactly acquire it in by honest means himself, and Ten Bruggencate knows it.
