Hot Target (1985)
Simone Griffeth: Christine, wife
Quotes
-
Christine Webber : [after he lits her cigarette] Thank you.
[exhales smoke, regards his disdain]
Christine Webber : Why do you stay with us, Ben?
[no answer]
Christine Webber : Ever the silent Doberman.
[smiles]
Christine Webber : You don't like me, do you?
Benjamin : My likes and dislikes are of no consequence. I'm employed by Mr. Webber. I answer to him and to him alone.
Christine Webber : [as he walks off contemptuously] Such loyalty.
-
Christine Webber : [the dogs want to go to the park, and the one begs plaintively] Oh, okay, you win.
[the dog licks her face, and she scratches under its ears]
Christine Webber : Okay, you talked me into it.
-
Greg Standford : [at cricket match] This has gotta be the most boring game I have ever seen in my entire life.
Christine Webber : Wouldn't talk so loud if I were you. Get lynched. Or worse.
-
Christine Webber : What kind of animal are you?
Greg Standford : For God's sakes, I didn't plan to kill him.
[she glares at him]
Greg Standford : Tell me, how many times did you want him dead?
Christine Webber : If he hadn't walked downstairs, you would have made away with a fortune in jewels, wouldn't you? That is, after having a farewell fuck!
Greg Standford : Now just what...?
Christine Webber : [yelling] That's how you planned it! Wasn't it? Right from the beginning. First you were just a lousy thief, but now you're a murderer. How does it feel? Do you like the way it sounds? Murderer!
[as she slaps him:]
Christine Webber : You used me!
Greg Standford : [grabs her by the shoulders] Listen to me! I didn't plan to go upstairs! That was my mistake! But I had to see you one more time. When I saw you asleep, I wanted you.
Christine Webber : [snarls] You! You're clever! The park and the dog... but the dog wasn't even yours.
Greg Standford : No, it wasn't. I did use you. That's how it started.
Christine Webber : They have seen prints all over the house. And they found a car.
Greg Standford : I stole it.
Christine Webber : They're going to get you! And then they're gonna get me.
Greg Standford : They're not gonna get anybody.
Christine Webber : Don't you think they're gonna connect us? That man is no fool. And he already knows.
Greg Standford : He doesn't know anything! Now, he may suspect, but he can't prove a damn thing. No one has seen us together.
Christine Webber : Do you know how much I inherit on Clyde's death? Three million dollars! That's three million reasons for wanting him dead. They know that.
Greg Standford : As long as you stick to your story, they have nothing on you. You were asleep.
Christine Webber : What are you going to do?
Greg Standford : Get out as soon as possible.
Christine Webber : [softly] What about me?
Greg Standford : You have nothing to worry about.
Christine Webber : That's not what I meant.
Greg Standford : Christine... you don't need me.
Christine Webber : [very softly:] Don't I?
[shaking her head]
Christine Webber : What do you know about need?
-
Christine Webber : What are you doing here?
Greg Standford : Happy to see me?
Christine Webber : No...
Greg Standford : I just thought I'd drop by and meet your husband. You're right, he really is a...
[Clyde notices the furtive couple]
Christine Webber : Please leave...
Greg Standford : Oh, I couldn't do that. They wanna sell me some yearlings... It's the game, you know. They get you high on champagne, and you end up with a four-legged friend.
[to Clyde, who sauntered over:]
Greg Standford : Hi.
Christine Webber : Oh, Clyde, this is, uh, sorry, what was your name?
Greg Standford : Hastings.
Christine Webber : Yeah. Mr. Hastings was just explaining what a good investment thoroughbreds are.
Clive Webber : With all respect, I find horses like women, so unpredictable. Not a safe investment.
Greg Standford : Then I bow to your financial genius... sir.
-
Christine Webber : How long have you been a criminal?
Greg Standford : How long have you been a bored, rich wife?
Christine Webber : Such a waste. You're obviously capable of doing a hundred other things.
Greg Standford : Probably. See those trees?
Christine Webber : Yes...?
Greg Standford : I want you to go up there.
Christine Webber : No! It's thronging with people.
-
Christine Webber : Greg, you've got to get out of here. I'm terrified.
[panting for breath]
Christine Webber : For Christ's sake, please leave.
Greg Standford : If that's what you want.
