Featured review
Herbert H. Heebert (Jerry Lewis) loses his girlfriend. He is heartbroken and swears off romancing. He gets a job in opera singer Helen Wellenmellon's boarding house. He is shocked to find it filled with young beautiful ladies. Katie (Kathleen Freeman) is the maid.
This movie is missing a character. It needs a romantic plain Jane for Herbert and she shouldn't be one of the girls. The ending tries to make Fay that, but she's not different enough. She really needs to be the maid in Katie's role.
The high point of this movie is the dollhouse and its early reveal. The other interesting aspect may be Mel Brooks as one of the writers. That behind-the-scene drama is very indicative of this mess. I do like the TV show left turn and some of the surreal pieces. In the end, that doesn't result in much although it gives the movie new life when it needed it.
