Work-life balance? No such thing. But in the new Apple TV+ series “Severance,” from director/executive producer Ben Stiller and creator Dan Erickson, it may not be such a pie-in-the-sky pipe dream after all. Apple has unveiled a teaser for the nine-episode first season, which debuts its first two episodes on February 18, 2022. Watch below.
Here’s the synopsis: “In ‘Severance,’ Mark Scout (Adam Scott) leads a team at Lumon Industries, whose employees have undergone a severance procedure, which surgically divides their memories between their work and personal lives. This daring experiment in ‘work-life balance’ is called into question as Mark finds himself at the center of an unraveling mystery that will force him to confront the true nature of his work… and of himself.”
The series notably reunites director Ben Stiller with Patricia Arquette, who earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the 2018 Showtime series “Escape at Dannemora.” In “Severance,...

Fans of the CBS series “The Good Wife” have still not recovered from the series-ending slap that Christine Baranski’s Diane Lockhart delivered to Julianna Margulies’ protagonist Alicia Florrick five years ago. Now on different series, Margulies and Baranski could compete at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where both could earn nominations for drama actress. Margulies is eligible for her performance in the second season of Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show,” while Baranski continues to portray Lockhart on the fifth season of Paramount+’s acclaimed spin-off “The Good Fight.”
Right now, neither actress cracks our projected nominees in the combined odds, but they’re not far off. Margulies sits in sixth place, just one slot shy of the top five, trailing her “Morning Show” co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, plus Sarah Snook (“Succession”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Mj Rodriguez (“Pose”). Baranski is a little further back,...

The summer movie season may be winding down, but HBO Max is keeping the movie ball rolling in September 2021. HBO Max’s list of new releases this month is heavy on the film side of things – both in library and original offerings.
Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2
Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles. Sept. 1 finds all eight Harry Potter movies returning to WarnerMedia’s streaming service. They will be accompanied by The Goonies, The Evil Dead, Cloverfield, and more. Later on in the month, Mortal Kombat (Sept.

Endeavor Content, Jeff Friday Media and Layne Eskridge’s Pov Entertainment will partner to develop and produce premium scripted television series by Black and brown creators, accelerating exposure and opportunity for Bipoc writers and producers. There’s an intriguing moment in director Christopher Smith’s latest contribution to the supernatural horror sub-genre, The Banishing: Harry Price, a seedy, small-town occultist with a bad dye job and a marked lack of concern for his personal safety, comforts a newly murdered woman, gently lowering himself to the blood-stained ground and lying down next to her her, ushering her soon-to-depart soul to the next world with a solemn benediction of decidely non-Christian origin. Both an eccentric gesture and oddly poignant, Price’s personal gesture stands in stark contrast against the remainder of a frustrating genre entry that simultaneously tries too hard, cramming enough ideas for several films or even a miniseries, and...

Shudder is pulling out all the shivery stops to commemorate the startling fact that we are exactly halfway to the most beloved date on any horror fan’s calendar, Halloween. Yes, that’s right, this month (April) is the six-month mark and the world’s scariest streaming outlet is celebrating with “Halfway to Halloween,” a massive slate of programming that begins on April 1 and continues throughout the rest of the month.
This is no April Fool’s joke (although we have some if you want). Shudder is rolling out a brand new batch of exclusive and/or original programming, including the second season of its acclaimed Creepshow series, the premiere of a new series of original short films called Deadhouse Dark, the highly anticipated sequel to its In Search of Darkness documentary, the return of The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, and the 2021 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.

In addition to handing out dozens of fan-voted awards on Sunday, the 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards also welcomed some of the biggest acts in music for two very different performances.
First up, Justin Bieber took the stage for a dramatic medley of songs from his Pca-nominated album Changes, which you can watch via the video above. His two-part performance began with “Lonely,” for which he was joined by collaborator Benny Blanco. After belting out some powerful notes of sadness, the Biebs transitioned into “Holy,” a slightly more upbeat single.

Shia Labeouf and Margaret Qualley went full frontal for the new music video from Qualley’s sister, the recording artist known as Rainsford, “Love Me Like You Hate Me.” Shooting earlier this fall during quarantine, the filmmakers kept a tight set, with just a handful of people in the room, to allow the actors to bare their souls (and much more) for a short film that charts the highs and lows of a toxic yet addictive relationship. It released on October 23.
Eagle-eyed viewers might remember Rainsford from “Severance,” the final season premiere of TV’s “Mad Men,” starring as a lithe and slightly mischievous young woman modeling a fur coat for ad executive Don Draper, and looking like she has a secret. She’s also had appearances in “Mighty Fine” and “Ocean’s 8,” and has a role in the upcoming Freeform rom-com series “Love in the Time of Corona,” but...
