An electronic rapping toy and a puppet are united by adversity and together they fight crime. Push the button on the paw of DJ Doggy Dog and he'll explain that he's "cute not scary," and that he's "got rhymes that are legendary." Push the questions about Don, the fool, still performing though his puppeteer is long since dead and that "cute not scary" and "legendary" start to feel quite a bit weirder. Discover that Don is given to flights of fancy and tilting at windmills and the advertising copy notion that this is based on what's described as "an original idea" by "writers of Toy Story" starts to look a bit suspect.
That's not, technically, untrue. Joel Cohen (not that one) is one of six with writing credits for 1995's Toy Story, though his most recent credits were 2007's Daddy Day Camp (the Daddy Day Care sequel) and another...

If you’re wondering what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in June, the answer is a lot. The streamer has a solid slate of movies heading into summer 2023. From the first two “Creed” films to “Love, Rosie,” “Yours, Mine & Ours” and other clever romantic comedies, the streamer has a range of options for viewers with different tastes. Newer theatrical releases arriving on the streamer in June include “TÁR,” “Armageddon Time,” and “M3GAN.”
TV premieres to look forward to include Boots Riley’s “I’m A Virgo” and the fourth and final season of John Krasinski’s “Jack Ryan.” “Crazy Rich Asians” arrives early in June, followed by “Interstellar” for all Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey lovers. Even though “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” doesn’t release in theaters until November, all four “Hunger Games” films land on Prime Video this June. Perfect timing — maybe even with a reread...

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.
The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.
The real fireworks this month come from a ludicrously deep bench of library TV and movie titles. Give them a look for yourself below but if we were to highlight just a few,...

Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.
Watch the trailer of “Inglourious Basterds”:
The network is also streaming the original documentary “Mystery Unsolved: The Adnan Syed Story” on June 7. The murder of teenager Hae Min Lee was the focal point of a “Serial” podcast, which questioned if boyfriend Syed was her killer. After serving 22 years in prison, Syed was released, still proclaiming his innocence. Now, he may return.
Another streamer original, “Magic Carpet Rides,” arrives June 14. It centers on a social influencer torn between sharing her budding romance or honoring her boyfriend’s request to keep their life private.

The fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” arrives on Prime Video on June 30. It finds Ryan — now the new acting CIA director — unearthing internal corruption and suspicious black ops that leaves the United States vulnerable to attack. John Krasinski stars as the tough-as-nails Ryan.

The Duggars and their 19 “happy” kids are exposed as frauds, while also being manipulated by Gothard and enduring the scandal of Josh, their sexually abusive son.

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

A new year has finally arrived and HBO Max is set to open it with a bang. With its list of new releases for January 2022, HBO Max is rolling out some intriguing original series and an absolutely packed slate of library titles.
The real highlight this month comes on Jan. 13 with the release of Peacemaker. Developed by James Gunn, this series spins off John Cena’s titular character from last years’ The Suicide Squad. The show will delve into the pathology of a superhero who will achieve peace regardless of how many people need to be killed to attain it.
Also of note this month are second seasons for two major HBO series. Euphoria season 2 and The Righteous Gemstones season 2 both premiere on Jan. 9, making for quite the odd double feature. Meanwhile, the fifth and final season of superb comedy Search Party arrives on Jan. 7.
January 2022 is light as far as original movies go.

For composer Jim Dooley, stepping into season two of “A Series of Unfortunate Events” was “like putting on a warm coat. This kind of dark fantasy world is really something I feel very comfortable doing.” Based on the book series by Lemony Snicket (a.k.a. Daniel Handler), this Netflix comedy centers on the three Baudelaire siblings: Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and Sunny (Presley Smith). After their parents die in a mysterious fire, they face trials and tribulations while uncovering dark family secrets, all while the evil Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) tries to steal their family fortune. Watch our exclusive video interview with Dooley above.

Don't expect Bill Murray this time, but do expect a brand new series of Garfield movies...
The best thing about the two Garfield movies that we’ve seen to date? That’d arguably be Bill Murray’s anecdotes about how he got involved in voicing cartoonist Jim Davis’ most famous creation. Murray, goes the story, agreed to voice the cat in the CG/live action hybrid movies when he confused screenwriter Joel Cohen (Cheaper By The Dozen, Daddy Day Camp) with Oscar-winning writer/director Joel Coen (No Country For Old Men, Fargo).Whether you fully believe Murray’s anecdote or not, it was arguably more memorable than anything that happened in the two Garfield films.
Now there’s a new Garfield movie that’s gone into the works, and it’s probably fair to say that Murray won’t be involved this time. The rights have been...

And it's been even longer since the 2007 film hit theaters, but that's not stopping Disney from keeping their hopes for Enchanted 2 high as Deadline reports a pair of writers have been hired to script the film. David N. Weiss & J. David Stem are set to script the film, and with films like Are We There Yet?, Daddy Day Camp and The Smurfs in their past, that doesn't inspire much confidence. But there's a glimmer of hope as the duo also scripted Shrek 2, which is a solid sequel. Read on! It's not clear who will all be returning from the first film, but one would hope that Amy Adams is a high priority, and there probably shouldn't be a sequel without her unless it focuses on another princess.

Way back in 2007, "Enchanted" filled our hearts with crazy love for Amy Adams and made some serious bank, so it's high time for Disney to try and make a sequel!
J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Daddy Day Camp," "Are We There Yet," "Shrek 2") will be writing the script, and Anne Fletcher ("The Guilt Trip," "27 Dresses," "Step Up") will direct. How could this go wrong?!
There's no word on whether or not Adams, who has wowed audiences with dramatic performances in "American Hustle," "Her," "The Master," among others, will reprise her role as Giselle, and, well, why would she? Her career is so crazy good that it would be silly to take a break from her dramatic work to sing for her supper in a sequel.
Meanwhile, her co-stars seem pretty busy too. Idina Menzel is busy still rocking Broadway and racking up awards, Susan Sarandon is holding it down in Hollywood,...

If you've been looking forward to sequels for G.I. Joe and Disney's Enchanted, then there's some good news coming your way. Progress on the sequels are moving forward as the studios have now hired writers for each project. Come inside for all the details and see who'll be penning the scripts!
I know, these properties have almost nothing in common, but considering they're both sequels, both of which just hired writers, I felt it better to lump them together into one article than a pair of smaller ones. So let's get to it.
First of all, Deadline dropped the news that many Disney fans are sure to be excited about, as one of their most underrated films (according to many) is finally getting a sequel. J. David Stem and David N. Weiss have been hired to write the script for Enchanted 2 which is expected to bring back some of the...

It's been seven years since Amy Adams first portrayed princess Giselle in Enchanted. Now Disney is finally going to work on that sequel we've all been waiting for. The studio has hired writing duo David Stem and David N. Weiss (Smurfs 2, Shrek 2, Daddy Day Camp) to pen the script to the overdue followup.
Anne Fletcher (The Guilt Trip, The Proposal) is set to direct the sequel. However, there's no word on whether Adams will reprise her role as Princess Giselle. As a matter of fact, we don't know if any of the original cast members – which include Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey, and Susan Sarandon – will return.
In 2007, Enchanted's worldwide gross was more than $340 million. The movie earned numerous Oscar nominations and Golden Globe nominations.
Enchanted 2 is being produced by Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. Jessie Nelson wrote an early draft of the script.

We figured this one was long dead, but it seems as though Disney has just decided to breathe fresh life into the sequel to the wonderful Enchanted.
The first movie was released back in 2007, and starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey and James Marsden. Which of those will be returning is unclear, but we at least now know that a pair of writers have been assigned the long-mooted Enchanted 2 job. The writers concerned are J David Stern and David N Weiss, the pair who wrote the scripts to the two Smurfs movies so far. They also wrote, er, Daddy Day Camp (that'd be the sequel, with Cuba Gooding Jr). On the upside, they also penned the excellent Rugrats In Paris.

That "Enchanted" sequel you've been waiting for is finally taking shape. Disney has hired screenwriters David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Smurfs 2," "Shrek 2," "Daddy Day Camp") to pen the script for the belated followup, which is set to be directed by Anne Fletcher ("The Guilt Trip," "The Proposal"). The news was broken by Deadline. Amy Adams starred in the Kevin Lima-directed first film as a fairytale princess come to life in modern-day New York City. With songs by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, the film rocketed to a worldwide grosses of more than $340 million and earned three nominations for Best Original Song at the 2008 Oscars (Adams also received a Golden Globe nod for Best Actress). Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel and Susan Sarandon were also in the cast. There's no word yet on whether Adams or any of the original cast members will...

Having overcome the indignities of junior high and Daddy Day Camp to become a real, prolific, TV-directing man, Fred Savage is now preparing to achieve another milestone by helming his first feature film about girls. Savage is said to be in talks, presumably adorably nervous ones, to head up Ladies Night, a “Bridesmaids-esque comedy” in which Charlize Theron would star as a woman whose frustration with her noncommittal boyfriend leads her to have one last wild night with her gal pals before leaving town for good. If he could only muster up the courage and ignore the taunts, Fred ...

Fred Savage, the child star-turned-prolific TV director, has been tapped by Skydance Productions to helm their upcoming comedy Ladies Night, starring Charlize Theron.
Since moving on from his actor days when he played the wide-eyed grandson in The Princess Bride and Kevin on The Wonder Years, Savage has directed over 120 TV episodes for shows such as Modern Family, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Boy Meets World, but the Skydance project will be his second directorial endeavor for the big screen. His first time directing a film was 2007′s Daddy Day Camp.

It's about a small town that revolves around the high school swim team and athletes rule the school. A cooking contest forces two kids - a bully and the kid he bullies -- to work together and as they progress, they become friends. But as the end of the contest nears and the stakes get higher, old feelings and resentments arise and it becomes unclear if the two are friends or enemies.

Whatchu talkin' about, Willis?! Todd Bridges and his wife, Dori, are calling it quits after 14 years of marriage, the Diff'rent Strokes actor announced. "It is confirmed that after 14 years of marriage, the Bridges have decided that disunion is in the best interest of their collective futures," a rep for the actor told E! News. "Although Todd and Dori are going their separate ways, they are mutually committed to the well-being of their son." The couple has a 13-year-old son, Spencir, incidentally also a child actor, having appeared in the film Daddy Day Camp and an episode of iCarly. As for the split, the 47-year-old thesp also broke the news of the apparently amicable...

The Greatest Show on Earth is coming to the big screen; Heat Vision reports that J. David Stem and David Weiss, the two screenwriters behind last summer’s adaptation The Smurfs, have been hired by Paramount to pen the script for Ringling Brothers, based on the legendary and still popular circus company. Specifics on the plot are being kept under wraps (assuming there is a plot) but it’s set in modern times and is being compared to family adventure comedies like A Night at the Museum and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Apparently the latter was a family comedy and not 90 minutes of Johnny Depp nightmare fuel. My mistake.
Stem and Weiss are currently at work on a Smurfs sequel, and their writing credits include Shrek 2, the classic Nickelodeon show Rugrats and its two movie incarnations (the crossover with The Wild Thornberries does not count, ever), and other...

Paramount Pictures is moving forward with "The Ringling Brothers" movie and has hired the writing team of David Stem and David Weiss, who penned scripts for such films as "The Smurfs," "Daddy Day Camp," and "Are We There Yet." The Ringling Bros were seven brothers who ended up creating one of the most successful and largest circuses in turn-of-the-20th century America. The circus was able to buy its nearest competitor, the equally famous Barnum and Bailey, and create what was billed as The Greatest Show on Earth. The circus remains popular and still tours today. Story details are being kept a secret but the studio says the project is being planned as a family adventure in the spirit of "Night at the Museum" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." It will be set in the present day.

The names Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow may not be immediately familiar, but you've no doubt seen some of their movies. The screenwriting duo has credits on Toy Story, Money Talks, Cheaper By the Dozen, Evan Almighty, Daddy Day Camp, and both Garfield flicks. Regardless of this resume, the pair keeps getting new gigs, and they've found a rather lucrative new niche: they're about to be the guy(s) adapting one of Facebook's most outrageously popular games... IGN has new information that indicates Cohen and Sokolow may be getting ready to pen a Farmville movie. Let that sink in. (Slashfilm reminds us that there is also an Angry Birds movie on the horizon as well.) For the three people who might not know, Farmville is a Facebook game that asks you to run a farm...

If you have still managed to escape the draw of social media games, then you won't be able to evade them much longer. Rumor has it that a Farmville movie adaptation is in the works, and could be coming to a movie theater near you pretty soon.
IGN interviewed "Toy Story" and "Garfield" scribes Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen recently and the writing duo dropped some pretty big news. Though they didn't say it outright, they did tease that they're working on a big, farm-related film project for "Farmville" creators Zynga.
"We will continue writing movies," they shared. "We are also working on several new and very exciting opportunities. We're in conversations with Zynga to do something with one of their brands. Can't really say too much on that front yet, but 'Old MacDonald' didn't have a factory, if you get our drift."

They were once cutting-edge comics with talent to burn; now they're sharing screen time with CGI co-stars and corny critters. Ellen E Jones reports on the family comedy club
For musicians, it's 27; the mystical age at which the unlucky succumb to the consequences of their career-dictated lifestyle. For movie stars, it's more like 49. And for them, it's not heroin, or booze, or depression; it's family comedies. You want proof? This weekend you can witness Jim Carrey, esteemed star of The Truman Show and Dumb & Dumber, and six CGI penguins breakdancing all over the grave of his serious acting ambitions in Mr Popper's Penguins. Carrey turned 49 in January, and the film marks his ascension into a not-so-exclusive fellowship of once-intriguing actors who now make family comedies.
Remember the 33-year-old Steve Martin who made The Jerk in 1979? At 49, he made the dismal Sgt Bilko and now mostly diverts his genius into Cheaper by the Dozen sequels.

Allan Campbell (Cole Hauser) is having a very bad day. Passed over for promotion, he comes home to find his wife in apparent post-coital bliss with his (former) best friend. He moves into a hotel and heads for a local bar to drown his considerable sorrows. There, he meets Jonas Arbor (Cuba Gooding Jr), a disgruntled but none the less deadly assassin, who eventually persuades Campbell to scribble down a list of the five people he would like to have killed. Thinking it all to be a big joke and with his far from sharp wits further blunted by a steady stream of bourbon, Campbell assembles the list on a napkin. The next day, the bodies start to pile up and Campbell has a race on his hands to try to stop the killing before it reaches its conclusion with the death of his wife.
