[edit]From Proto-Hmong *mblɔŋᴬ (“leaf”). Probably cognate with Proto-Mien *nɔmᴬ (“id”); compare also Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *buluŋ (“medicinal herbs”) (whence Pangasinan bulong (“leaf”)), as well as Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-lap (“leaf”).[1][2]
