Old Irish

[edit]From Proto-Celtic *ad-glādīti, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰleh₂d-, perhaps an alternative form of *ǵʰreh₁d-. Cognate with Ancient Greek κέχλᾱδα (kékhlāda, “I exulted”) (Pindar) and possibly Sanskrit ह्रादते (hrādate, “make a noise”).
