[edit]Borrowed from Old Swedish [Term?] (whence Swedish ancker, a variant of ankare; compare Old Swedish ankæri, ankar; perhaps adapted with -uri), ultimately from Old Norse akkeri, from Proto-Germanic *ankurô, itself ultimately from Latin ancora.
