- A waiter, a (male) server.
- Tanach, Daniel 1:16, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:
- וַיְהִי הַמֶּלְצַר נֹשֵׂא אֶת־פַּתְבָּגָם, וְיֵין מִשְׁתֵּיהֶם; וְנֹתֵן לָהֶם זֵרְעֹנִים.
- vayəhí hammeltzár nosé et-patbagám, vəyḗn mishtēhém; vənotén lahém zer'oním.
- So the steward took away their food, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
