[edit]A chiefly Central and Low German form (vis-à-vis Upper German Karren). From Middle Low German karre f and northern Middle High German karre f, from Old Saxon karra and Old High German karra, from Latin carrus (“cart”), from Gaulish *karros. Compare Dutch kar, English car, Swedish kärra. Doublet of Ross.
