Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary, a 481 km² Protected area near Pulicat, Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu, South India is the second largest brackish-water eco-system in India after Chilka lake in Orissa.

Geography

The area on the Tamil Nadu side is 153.67 km². Andhra Pradesh side is 327.33 km². 108 km² is National Park area. Central location is: 13°34′N 80°12′E / 13.567°N 80.200°E / 13.567; 80.200. Rainfall ranges from 800 - 2000mm. Temperature varies from 14° C to 33° C. Altitude ranges from 100’ MSL to 1200’ MSL.

Many Greater Flamingos can be seen here.[1]

Threats

Pulicat Lake may totally disappear within 100 years by being filled up with silt.[2]
