Affixation of per- + *kosa (kuasa (power)), from ke- + *wasa, from Sanskrit वश (vaśa, control; domination; desire). Doublet of perkasa.

Compare to Sundanese prakosa (mighty), Javanese ꦥꦿꦏꦺꦴꦱ (prakosa, mighty, powerful, strong).
