pallissa
Catalan
editPronunciation
editEtymology 1
editInherited from Old Catalan palissa (“fence, palisade”) (especially in the context of jousting), either borrowed from Spanish paliza[1] or an indigenous formation,[2] in either case etymologically Latin pālus (“stake”) and perhaps -icea. The change from /l/ to /ʎ/ is likely by analogy with lliça or vall.
