editFrom Middle Low German krūsen, from krūs (“frizzy”), from Proto-Germanic *kruzlǭ (“bent or crooked object, curl”), possibly from Pre-Germanic *grus-, contracted from Proto-Indo-European *gurus- (“twist, curl”), same source as Persian گرس (gors, “braid of hair”).[1]
