From Middle High German versnīden, from Old High German firsnīdan. Equivalent to ver- +‎ schneiden (to cut).

  1. (transitive) to cut, to trim something to fit
  2. (transitive, reflexive) to miscut, to cut something badly
  3. (intransitive, skiing) to lose control over keeping the skis parallel
  4. (transitive) to castrate; to neuter (to remove sex organs, usually male ones, from an animal or person)
