editEtymology
editFrom Old Galician-Portuguese tregua (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), probably from Gothic 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍅𐌰 (triggwa). Attested Medieval Latin treuga[1] however points perhaps to a West Germanic *trewwa, from Proto-Germanic *trewwō.
