Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *ten- (to stretch) + a nominal extension *-klas. Cognate with Latvian tìkls (net), Old Prussian sasintinklo (hare net), Proto-Slavic *teneto (net, snare), Sanskrit तन्त्र (tantra, loom).[1]
